Not to be confused with Slickfield, which is a field full of oil. Not baby oil unfortunately.
Smithfield was a good company, and I don't mean great but I mean good, for hams and other meats, for some things more than others, but nothing moreso than their hams. They also made good Vienna Sausage - and they still do, which is why I gave them three stars.
However since the foreign ownership came in, the standards and customer service have slipped (not that they were the best in the US, but they were passable), and a lot of the ingredients have too.
They also don't stand by a lot of the guarantees that made the company great.
So while I give them three for now - which used to be four or five - in the near future their rating could go down to 2 or 1 if they don't discover the American business practices that made them great, and blend them with the foreign ownership capital that has allowed them to take over this company.
I'm not saying American practices are the best, far from it. But in this case, when they were American owned, they were doing better by their customers. read more
