Have picked my child up from this daycare on multiple occasions and she had the same diaper I dropped her off in. Brought the issue to the director's attention, left work early as to not come at normal pick up time and my child had the same diaper on AGAIN. This has not been the only issue, my child was bitten at this place multiple times and I received a phone call ONCE when the bite mark was on my daughter's face. Other bites I wouldn't even hear about or receive an incident report, I would see bite marks when I would bathe my child. Another incident that this daycare seemed to think was acceptable, my child was eating dirt and the employees didn't bother even picking the mulch out of my child's mouth, let alone wipe her face. The father of my child even heard an employee telling a child that she would "pop" him. Who knows what's happening the rest of the time if this stuff is common practice for a daycare. To not change a child's diaper ALL DAY is extremely upsetting, the fact that I have to pay someone AND have to ask them to do their job and they still cannot is unacceptable.

As it is a daycare and diapers are changed frequently, there's no unpleasant smells or that icky look or feel to the establishment. You can tell cleanliness and sanitation is taken seriously. The teachers were excited to have a new student coming to learn and play with them. I felt happy and comfortable bringing my little one here to Wise. They keep the children busy with learning and playing and you can see your child's day through updates directly from their teacher! I had a tour before enrolling and an owner stepped out onto the lot after I was parked for a few minutes and asked me if I needed help with anything and to confirm that I was a parent actually visiting the care center. I felt that this made my decision to move my little one here to Wise all the better. This is a private lot, so there should only be traffic from parents and family members actually visiting the center. I was able to see the owner and staff had a genuine concern for the safety of our children and parents that attend the center. Anyone not familiar with how terrible people can be to innocent children may not understand, but as a parent, I was extremely grateful. I too would be suspicious and wary of anyone waiting in the parking lot of a DAYCARE CENTER for a long time. Take time to visit the center for yourself and see the safety, the cleanliness, the love of the staff and happiness of the children. The owner, Ms. Young has no business running a daycare. -She is not good with kids. I've walked into the school and heard her yelling at some of her young ones in a very unprofessional manner. -TWO KIDS WERE LEFT OUTSIDE AND FORGOTTEN ABOUT ON A HOT DAY! the blame was put on one of our favorite teachers who was not even working that day. -Prices are INSANE. Even after we got government assistance, we still had to dish out $360 a month for one 3/yo. We switched to lil' folks across the street where we're paying half. -Ms. Young will take advantage and close the school for every holiday, federal or not, as well as teachers birthdays, teachers calling out or more likely quitting/getting fired. You are still charged full price and you will not be able to take your kid(s) to school about 3 days a week. They closed school for 2 weeks for winter break. -The turnover rate is crazy (kids and teachers both) because she doesn't pay her teachers anywhere near what they should be getting to take care of our children. They don't get paid for all those holidays that we still pay full price for. -When a teacher was fired or quit and a new one was hired, we had no idea. We didn't know who was taking care of/teaching our kids. -Our child's clothing would often get lost. The teachers I have met here are good people. They do not deserve the low pay, mandatory unpaid vacations, and poor treatment. If you're able to find another school that can accommodate, even if it's a little farther than you want to travel for it, it would absolutely be worth it.

I went to Smithfield and graduated in 2010. Isle of Wight is a relatively safe area but there were…read morea TON of fights. My freshman year we had locker/car/body searches at least six times. Students were throwing weed on the roof, pushing razors to the ground, and hiding their cigarettes under trash cans. Despite the bad apples there were also good ones. Smithfield was lucky to have a large number of amazing, caring, giving, independent thinking, and honest teachers for their students. The variety of culture these teachers brought to Smithfield was great as a student for me. I enjoyed nearly every one I had and keep in touch with a few over Facebook now that I have graduated. The lunches were honestly okay; they had a sandwich line, home food, pizza line, and international line. The price in Isle of Wight was quite the jump from Portsmouth where I came from.. 2.55 vs 1.25 for lunch. My ABSOLUTE favorite thing about Smithfield was their special education program. Through this program the students enrolled were able to work at the 'Snack shack' where they sold students goodies face to face. That builds social interaction skills, job value, and math with the money handling. They also baked cookies and sold coffee/goods to the teachers during the morning. The teachers would get their items delivered directly to the classroom. Even as a young teen I thought this was an awesome educational tool for those with learning and intellectual disabilities. I hope the program hasn't changed much; Smithfield was lucky in having Ms Gwaltney on their team. I have a learning disabled cousin who really could have benefited from this type of training while in high school. The school was kept pretty clean, bathrooms stocked. Was not a huge fan of the 4-5 minute class change time. The freshmen have general core classes upstairs and have to run across the school to get to their other classes, which can cause them to build up tardies. I believe the school should be more lenient with freshmen and do a checks/balances of their schedule to ensure they aren't zigzagging up and down the stairs and to and from one side of the building to the other. The buses were horrible and bus drivers didn't do much to fix negative situations. There was racial tension on my bus to the point that the Caucasian students had to carpool to and from school because other students were physically beating, bullying, and harassing them every day. The schools did nothing to intervene, punish, or stop it. One case went to court and I had actually began carrying a tape recorder on me that was used as evidence. The studies were very SOL focused which is a shame because there is so much more to education than passing a test. The teachers did what they had to do and I place no blame with them. Overall attending Smithfield High was okay. I would have rather gone here than anywhere else in the area.. except Windsor High; I believe I would have liked it there. I haven't been back since 2012 for my brother's graduation so I am not sure how much it has changed.
