Incredible experience with Brian yesterday. He successfully talked us into another, better objective, got us all the way up a 5 pitch multipitch climb, and facilitated an awesome experience. In addition to being a genuinely nice and really pleasant person he was a great guide and very proficient climber. Booked an all day guided climb. Love how there no time limit when you do an all day trip. Alan was my guide and he did a wonderful job of showing me around, exposing me to the climbing at Smith Rock. He did a wonderful job of catering to what I wanted to do, keeping me safe, but also pushing me a little out of comforter zone to grow as a climber. We were really happy with climbing experience we had with our guide Derek. He was super patient with our kids the first day and then lead us on a great route for our first multi-pitch climb on Tuesday (Voyage of the Cowdog). I had an incredible experience with Smith Rock Climbing Guides. I was on a solo trip out to Oregon and wanted to try some rock climbing, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a half day or a full day. David and the team listened to my needs and were accommodating. Dean was an excellent guide and very comfortable to talk to and hang out with. A buddy and I had a full day with Alex amid a summer heat wave. Alex was super awesome - knew all the fun routes in the shade that matched our ability, and was perfectly fine being a belay slave for the entire day. He was also super knowledgeable and approachable. We definitely learned a lot about the ins and outs of sport climbing as well as general safe practices when it comes to climbing outside. I am a very experienced climber, visiting Central Oregon where I have no partners. So I did something I have never done before: hired a guide. I called Smith Rock Climbing Guides a few days in advance and set up a full day. I met my guide James in the parking lot for Smith Rock at 8am and after a brief check of my gear and a brief discussion we set off to do a five pitch 5.9 classic route. On our 5.9 route I lead all the pitches with James belaying, giving me beta and encouragement. We rapped the route and headed of to do some one pitch routes, most of which James lead and I top-roped. He got me up some routes that were a bit above my normal standard, so that was fun. Even though I have many years of experience, it was good to climb with a younger guy, trained and certified as a guide, who was up on some of the latest techniques and thinking about safety. James was a pleasure to be with, a very competent climber, and super safe. By 330 pm I was toast, happy and back at the car. A very good day. read more
