Despite not having a TMJ specialist on staff, Valley Dental Health agreed to see her the same day I called. They took her in and gave her an exam. They wrote her a script to help deal with the pain and offered some people that she could follow up with for additional assistance. One of those people was able to see her within a day or two. While Valley Dental Health couldn't assist my wife with her specific issue, I appreciate how they brought her in and examined her in a timely manner, provided a temporary solution and offered some referrals that got her on the road to recovery.

Apparently, my only real problem was walking into a practice more interested $ than caring for its patients. I made an…read moreappointment last week (for the day right after Thanksgiving) for extreme pain and difficulty swallowing caused by inflammation on the gums around my wisdom teeth. Believe me, I was very miserable. To my surprise, they were able to schedule an appointment within ONE HOUR of my call, so of course I went right away. I made it on time for my appointment, and then I had a very short wait. One thing that drives me insane about American health care is that they are so opaque with prices, they give you fake estimates and then you have to pay about 5x more. Well, none of that at Spectrum. The price they told me on the phone was the price I paid (I don't have dental insurance unfortunately but they gave me a student discount! :D ). After the techs (I'm not sure what you call them - the people who take your X-Rays before you see the dentist?) did what they had to do, I was sent to the room where the dentist came within I think five minutes or so. The dentist was able to tell me exactly what was going on, and told me what to expect to be able to cure it. She then prescribed me some drugs and I began taking them right away. Within a few days, the pain disappeared! I went back today for my follow up appointment, and I am pain-free! There is still a minor bit of inflammation but that should go away when I finish my drugs. Today there was a slighttttt wait, I waited about 20 minutes, which doesn't seem too bad. As a broke student, I dreaded having to pay again, but guess what? The follow-up has no fee! The dentist is also very kind, professional, and it seems to me knowledgeable (having no dentistry knowledge myself, I can only make a reasonable guess but she seems knowledgeable. After all, she has a degree from Howard University and went to University of Maryland Dental School so I feel like these are good qualifications.) Will consider going again to get wisdom teeth pulled and teeth cleaning. Unfortunately it will be really expensive because I don't have dental insurance, so hopefully they'll give me another student discount, but as for as dentist appointments go, this place is one of the best ones I've been to.

I should have known then to walk away but I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. 2nd appointment two months later was for the tooth repair. Scheduled for 8am. I arrive and the desk tells me my appointment is at noon. Which it wasn't. It was scheduled for 8am precisely so that I did not have to take time out of my day. Somehow they managed to "squeeze me in" and the dental work was quite good. Worthy of another "chance", so we scheduled my annual cleaning, first available in 6 months. 3rd appointment. After waiting 6 months, just 15mins before the appointment, the desk called to state that if I didn't bring X-rays with me from a prior practice that I would have to pay out of pocket for the X-ray. What X rays are needed for a Cleaning?!! There must something wrong, I scheduled a cleaning 1/2 a year ago, not X-rays: "sir its office policy to do a consultation with all appointments". Well I had a consultation when I wanted to get a filling. "Sir that was a basic evaluation, you need a full assessment" ... this sounds like a ploy to over charge insurance. "Sir you'll have to pay out of pocket without your prior Rays." I do not want X-rays, I'm here for a cleaning. Also, did you think to tell me at any point during the prior 6 MONTHS that these were needed? Why wait until the hour of unless you only intend to squeeze every penny from my pocket. So I left. In less than 20 mins I scheduled an appointment next week with Canton Dental for a cleaning. Unless you too enjoy wasting months of your life, and overpaying for services you did not consent to, Avoid this practice. Just don't even start the process. Look elsewhere.
