From what I see its illegal (see picture) or they have tried to charge be $50 for a $200 bill and today 6 cavities for my son, told my wife that our $360 bill would be an exta $100 to use a debit card. With all the choices for a dentist out here, why get overcharged. Again, not a lawyer, but everything I looked up what they are doing looks allegidy/borderline illegal. Unethical at the least. We won't be back. Which is unfortunate because they are a decent dentist. But between the fees and the upcharges I can find a different dentist. Just my opinion.

After my last few visits, I will not be returning, nor will any of my family members. At my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist was telling me how dirty my teeth were and told me that I don't brush or floss my teeth. Well, I don't know how I've made it this far in life without brushing my teeth! She made me feel awful about my teeth and made me feel like a disgusting human who apparently doesn't brush or floss. I had a few cavities and made a follow up appt to get them filled. I was given the appt with paperwork stating what teeth would be getting the fillings. It's a good thing I kept that paperwork! I showed up to the appt for the fillings and was told my appt was never made and was never put into the system. Yet I had the paperwork showing otherwise! They took me anyway since it was their mistake, but I was treated as a walk in and made to wait, wait, wait. I had another appointment that I booked 2.5 hours after this one and I had to actually contact the business of my next appointment and notify them that I would be late. And sure enough I was 30 minutes late to my next appointment because of Avalon dental's incompetency. Speaking of incompetence.....approximately 6-8 months after this, I had a dental cleaning at a different dental office and found out that I had a "huge" cavity that Avalon dental missed! It was so large that had it gone any longer I would have needed a crown! The cavity was clearly visible on the x-rays taken at Avalon and they never treated it or informed me of the cavity. One of my family members actually did have a crown placed through Avalon dental and the whole experience was nothing but a nightmare! They told my family member that they ran the paperwork with the insurance company and that the crown was covered. My family member had the procedure and was then hit with a massive bill from the insurance company. Avalon dental never cleared it with the insurance first and said they did! My family member then had to get more medical documentation and basically do Avalon Dental's job for them with submitting required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company to get this covered, which is what Avalon claimed they did, but did NOT! The woman in the office that handles insurance and billing is EXTREMELY RUDE! Called multiple times requesting that we contact the insurance company to pay them. Is that not her job? I contacted the insurance company and per the insurance company, they had 90 days in which to provide Avalon dental with the payment and it would be payed in 90 days. I called and let the insurance/billing lady at Avalon dental know this and she continued to call us MULTIPLE times requesting a check from the insurance company! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Again, this is her job to contact the insurance company....why were we having to do her job for her? Not to mention she continued talking over us on the phone, kept interrupting us multiple times, and would not let us speak! She was calling us up like a bill collector when it was out of our hands. We told you, the insurance will pay you in 90 days! QUIT calling! We QUIT coming to Avalon dental after these incidents. Will not be coming back. EDIT: The business thinks I have the wrong dental business because of my name and location being California. I have the correct business and I was a patient of yours more than once. I travel to the valley here MULTIPLE times per year and have well over 200 reviews for Arizona businesses, including yours. If you took a look at my reviews, check-ins, and photos, you'd know that. I was just in Phoenix this morning. As for my name, this is a variation of my name. Just because it doesn't exactly match my medical record, doesn't mean I was not a patient of this office. I do not wist to talk to you or anyone from this business. I shared my experience with your business on a review site. I have severe dental anxiety and white-coat syndrome, which was apparent during my visit. Despite scheduling an appointment to have a second opinion for a front tooth and a future dental treatment plan, I was placed with hygienist Chantel for a dental cleaning that I had neither scheduled nor requested. I was told that the " this is process". I told her that I forwarded my x rays and this was for a second opinion on my tooth. She just carried on as if she was proceeding. I became increasingly distressed during the interaction and ultimately experienced severe anxiety. I had not prepared with taking anything for an appointment to have any type of work done. I told her I wanted to leave at that point as my anxiety went through the roof and explained I know I won't be able to calm down. Chantel had a complete unprofessional attitude and said " you want to leave"? Then stated well I'll be right back I'm going to talk to the front staff. She instead when and brought Dr. Stanley into the room. While I was visibly distressed and upset, rather than attempting to calm the situation or allowing me to leave without confrontation, he told me that I had "wasted 90 minutes" of his staff's time, he was condescending and I felt like I was being scolded. I was told and talked down to that I wouldn't find another dentist without the same protocols. I felt humiliated. I then started to have a panic attack in the room. I was then told to go to the waiting room. While I was in the lobby having to wait, visibly crying and experiencing the panic attack, I observed Chantel laughing and making comments to the front-desk staff while holding paperwork over her face as if I couldn't see. I found this behavior humiliating and extremely unprofessional. I do want to note that the front-desk employees themselves were kind to me once they recognized how distressed I was asked if there was anything they could do. Dr Stanley actually expected me to schedule another appointment after I was able to take something to relax me, prior to coming and telling me while hitting his hand on his chest schedule with me next time because you wasted 90 minutes of time that was blocked for you with my staff. This is exactly what I did the day before when I scheduled. I was on hold over 10 minutes with the front desk trying to figure out how to schedule me. I explained that I had just had a consultation the day before with another dentist and wanted a second opinion as I was a previous patient and really loved this practice. I had my X rays to forward. I said I don't want to be charged again with insurance. I was told it's ok we need to schedule it this way but she is aware of what is needed and she will not be doing an exam. Chantel was clueless of this and didn't even know my X rays were there. I was a previous patient it had been a few years since I was there. I was always treated wonderful by staff especially the office manager and the Dentist that retired. Caring and so much compassion dealing with dental phobias and anxiety. My concerns are that I was presented with a dental procedure I had not scheduled or requested and was told it was mandatory, and that both Dr. Stanley and Chantel responded inappropriately when I became acutely distressed and asked to leave. I am diagnosed as disabled suffering from severe anxiety and depression. I actually felt like I was being discriminated. I expected more from any professional instead I felt ashamed and embarrassed Maybe they need to have some additional training mandated by the Arizona State Board.
