1 because 0 wasn't an option. Came for an extraction, code 7210, that shows no cost under my insurance w/ no co-pay. They attempted to charge me $98 for a co-pay. After several back&forth of why, I was advised our sys shows the copay. So I leave but made it to the parking lot. Confirmed with insurance company no copay & insur company sent proof. I went back in to show proof & the receptionist states she can see that they show no copay but our end it shows as copay of $98 & they'll have to call tomorrow to clarify. She stts she will charge me for packing which is not covered at all $38. I agree being I would have to start over going elsewhere so soon & it was a simple extraction. Suddenly, they want to check my blood pressure now. Of course, its high. Bottom number 105. No waiver they would allow me to sign. 5 min wait no it's 101. So leave again with no service. I did mention how they were reminding me the entire time to schedule for fillings. Should of took the warning from the previous customer there already fussing at them for being unprofessional and complaining how she was handled. Lesson learned to avoid this place if at all possibl. We arrived here to have a procedure performed on a cavity. Now we are told the dentist doing the procedure needs to do an examination to determine if they can do the procedure today. Couldn't be happier with this office! All of the front desk girls are extremely sweet and helpful, they are always on time, with very clean work areas. I've had multiple hygienists and all of them are gentle and courteous. Doc is terrific at her job and explains procedures very well, always answers all questions. I went into their practice after making an appointment for initial exam, x-rays and cleaning on 7/12/22. Exam and x-rays occurred and then their office informs me that they can't do the cleaning the same day. Staff member says you can come back tomorrow like my whole schedule is dedicated to their office. The dentist and staff confirmed my policy had no co-pay for cleaning. I returned reluctantly on 7/27/22 to only end up having the dental hygienist insist on me upgrading my cleaning to a cleaning that wasn't provided by my insurance. They wanted me to pay $190 out of pocket in addition to what the insurance was set to pay. They said I either agreed or they were not cleaning my teeth. Horrible experience. Terrible customer service. You can tell that their profit margin was their only priority. read more

My husabnd and I have had nothing but great care from the dentists and hygienists at Smile Design for years!

I strongly recommend avoiding this place after being a patient for 2+ years. Their operating model is to bill insurance the max for your cleaning while then trying to sell $150 antibiotic mouthwashes, additional monthly visits, root canals and even surgical techniques when not needed (as later validated by a periodontist and dentist I consulted with) as evidenced by my experience. This place rebranded as Smile Designs slightly over a year ago but has the same model of placing profit ahead of science and their clients interests. I've recently switched dentists but do need to warn others of what to expect. I believe that consumers deserve scientific honestly from a medical provider in place of a profit maximizing experience and hereby submit my review. read more

*** UPDATE 6/24/16*** Right after I posted this review on March 5, I received a call from Natalie from the office stating that they saw my review and wanted to issue the refund now. She asked for my credit card, but I did not feel comfortable giving it to her so she said I would receive my refund by mail in 7-10 days. That was almost 3 months ago, so clearly she just wanted me to remove this review which I would have, but knew that she had no intention of sending the refund! I'm just amazed and will continue to tell everyone I know that even though Dr. K. might be great, the rest of the organization is a wreck. HORRIBLE since they have changed to Smile Design. Very unorganized and extremely poor customer service. They will try to up sell you on ridiculous things that you don't even need and ignore requests from your insurance company if they owe you money from overcharging you in the first place. My insurance company has sent them 3 requests for reimbursement of only $100.00, and each time they told them they would send me a check by a certain date and never do. Then when I call their office about it, they are overwhelmingly RUDE and say they will get back to me, which of course doesn't happen. I have waited patiently for more than 2 years, and it seems they would rather pay $100.00 for this review than write a check that the insurance company said they owed and they agreed! The first visit I had with them was great; no pain, no anything. My last visit: TOTAL. NIGHTMARE. The hygienist decided to yank my temporary crowns out with no anesthetic, no Novocaine, no anything. Imagine how it feels to have your teeth pulled without a numbing agent. That's what this was. Right after this, the hygienist decided to continue to ignore the fact that my teeth underneath the crowns were clearly sensitive (as evidenced by my shouts as my crowns were getting pulled out), and spray water on them. This caused me to writhe in pain. Then Novocaine FINALLY got applied. Now here I am, 2 days after the temporary crowns were placed. One of my teeth underneath the crowns hurts so badly, I can't sleep! I may go to an emergency dentist tomorrow to repair the work they've done. read more

I like Dr. Sabet and her hygienists but every time I am here they are running behind! One time I waited for an hour and finally just rescheduled. Wish they were proactive and when running behind picked up the phone to call and let you know instead of wasting time in their waiting area. This office has changed ownership and it's terrible! Not a single employee from Dr. sabet is here. I had a filing fall out and the assistant who met with me before the dentist was totally clueless! The dentist is kind of bitchy. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed a few years ago at this location and it was the most painful experience I've ever had. I had been told I wouldn't feel pain, only pressure, but whatever I was being given was not numbing my pain. I did tell the assistant this and it wasn't taken seriously. What I paid to get my wisdom teeth removed while being awake is what other people I've spoken to about this have paid to have them removed while under anesthesia, and I have insurance. Can't go back in time now but I do want to help others and suggest that you go somewhere else to have your wisdom teeth extracted. It will be less painful and you'll pay less. read more

We just moved to te area and have been looking for a family dentist, this is definitely not the place for us. We waited about an hour and the place smells horrible, there are lots of children running around and it just felt like I was at a daycare rather than a dental office. When my child was finally called they asked me to stay behind which made me very uncomfortable! So far I have had 2 successful out of 4 appointments at Smile Design Dentistry (50% FAIL), The last 2, BOTH were cancelled AFTER I arrived at their office because - I confirmed my appointment too early AND too late. I confirmed both appointments 3 or more days early, (Which fell before their "Policy Window") and also called the day of the appointment, which they VERBALLY CONFIRMED my appointment. (While standing at the desk was told it was CANCELED because confirmations fell outside the "Policy Window"). I showed them the text they sent THIS morning reminding me of my appointment. Then they told be about this "Policy" of the appointment window for the very first time. Apparently it is NOT Policy to call or notify of cancellations. I had prepaid $1,500 for the care they promised to provide They have the money, I have the lingering problem and NO appointment. They promised to make another appointment when available, maybe next week. Corporate office takes voicemail only - which they do not return. I am very disappointed because of the care NOT PROVIDED. Staff is very pleasant, but not pleasant enough to keep coming in to have them tell me in person you have been canceled. Apparently Smile Design Dentistry bought out Lithia Smiles-Valrico (I am assuming this because the address is the same as Lithia Smiles). Having changed dentists when the original dentist sold the business, I was SHOCKED to get a collection notice on behalf of Smile Design stating we had an outstanding bill there. We received a collection notice on December 17, 2016 for an ALLEGED date of service of 03/18/14. Since then I have called Smile Design Dentistry seven (7) different times asking for documentation of this alleged outstanding invoice. Tricia always answers the phone and her response is always that I will need to talk to Natalie and then I get reason that I can not speak with Natalie --- a variation of Natalie is not in the office, Natalie is really busy, or Natalie is with a patient, etc. On multiple occasions I have been promised that Natalie will return my call - to date (1/17/17) Natalie has not called... During each conversation with Tricia, I reiterate that I received a collection notice for a 2014 invoice; therefore I would like to see proof of that unpaid bill. As everyone knows ---- dentists don't let you out the door without payment in full! WARNING to all patients - inspect your bills closely - keep copies of every receipt, EOB, etc. you ever get from this place! read more

Avoid at all costs!! I have been getting bills from this office lately that are blank as to when a service occurred and blank as to what they are for. They only state an amount. The problem is I have not been to this dentists office since Dr Sabat, left over 4 years ago, and had a zero balance with her the last time I went there. If you have also received bills of the like and now collection letters for bills you have never seen, I will suggest talking to the US States attorney, as I am going this route to open an investigation against them. Today's visit forced me to walk out and take my family with me because this office is just looking for $$$$ from the patient's. I came in today for my cleaning which was overdue because I had to change an appointment in November and the next available cleaning was march however was also canceled due to a sick hygienist. I got a call for a cancelation which I jumped on only to be told I need a deep cleaning now, which would NOT be covered by insurance. I find this strange because the patient next to me had periodontitis but did not need the same high dollar out of pocket procedure because she was a Medicare patient. read more

I just had an apt for a cleaning at Lithia Smiles. The practice was taken over by Susanna Kulangra . Apt. time 12:00 with one hour wait in the office. Then sitting in a chair and listening to rock music 30 minutes. Next the hygenist decides she can't just do a simple cleaning and that the co- pay is a little under 200.00 for one half the mouth and insist that I pay a past no show fee that never occurred . Then they said that Lithia Smiles did not bill correctly and that it was their error but I had to deal with it. Next they stated they would do me a favor and delete the wrong no shows. After 2 hours of waiting they stated they had no time to do the cleaning and that if I did not pay for Lithia Smiles errors now they threatened me . 2 hours lost on rude and aggressive behavior No cleaning Demand on the spot payment Threats Avoid these people . Went to the office last year for a wisdom teeth removal no iv just Novocaine just after i started to feel the worst pain I've ever felt in my life letting them know i was told multiple times during that i couldn't feel anything and that i was over reacting and i needed to stop and be still. After i started going to a new dentist found out that Novocaine doesn't work for me and has no effect due to my metabolism. The dentist here lost my trust as experts when it was obvious i was in extreme pain and instead decided to carry on by themselves without giving a second thought to my well being would never recommend this office to anyone. read more

I had been taking my two children (son, 5 and daughter, 7) for the past year to this location. Almost every time we were there the front desk Hispanic woman was consistently rude, whether it be in person or over the phone. On our last visit after scheduling appts for 6 month cleanings for both kids, and a treatment for my son while still in the back, when we got to the front to check out I was informed that the dentist would not longer work on my son. The only explanation I was given for the complete change (in 5 minutes) was that he had too much work to get done. There has also been at least 2 occasions where I have been called the day before to cancel appts that have been scheduled for 4+ months. All in all my experiences at this dentist office have been nothing pleasant and I would not recommend going to this office. read more

I was told It was to dangerous of a procedure because the replacement might fall out,and I could choke on it. Which we all know it a load of shit. Then you gave me a temporary crown and the nurse has to spend 20 minutes telling me how to avoid it falling out. I guess you guy don't care About me choking of the replacement crown because it was a bullshit excuse it the first place to charge me more for a procedure that I did not want. The temp crown Which is four times bigger and extremely more likely that it would fall out, therefore making it more likely to encounter the situation that you want to avoid. Using your staffs logic, it is clear you were not looking out for my best interest Most of all I was missled. I made it clear that I did not want and grinding or blood in my mouth. I was told they have to slightly shape my tooth. When I could feel the dental assistant pealing my gums back with I wire I became very upset. When she showed me with a mirror that she had grinding off 80% of my tooth, I almost cried. We then Got into a discussion because she said she it was not grinding it was shaping. Then she only admitted it was grinding when she slipped up and said she had to do some more grinding. I am most upset because I teach physicians how to use EMR in hospitals, and I know how doctors operate to insure that they make the most about of money off of a patient as possible, and there is not a doubt in my mind that I had fallen victim to this. I am also highly suspicious of the amount of tooth removed and how sensitive it feels. I also spent the better part of the day speaking with family friend dentist in Indiana who is pretty familiar with my mouth and he is confident that I was taken advantage of, and that there could be a worse outcome further down the road involving that tooth. read more

I can live with the fact that they always seem to over bill you in a very dishonest way (a recurring theme on their reviews on fb and yelp) but it was the INHUMANE way they treat you when you have a SERIOUS EMERGENCY like I did this weekend that took me over the edge. They intentionally have chosen to ignore my pleas for help when the temporary crown they put on my tooth broke in half at 3:45 Friday and left my mouth with a huge hole. I've been in excruciating pain all weekend, can barely eat, drink or even talk and now feeling extremely weak and dizzy as a result of their NEGLIGENCE! Here's exactly what happened: I went to them on Thursday to get a new crown. I left feeling like there was something off with the temporary crown they put in but they said that was probably because my mouth was still numb. Later that evening I could hardly eat or move my mouth. I called them first thing on Friday and they said I could come in at 12:30 to fix whatever was wrong. I was seen by a different assistant who worked on the temporary crown and did confirm that it was way too big and uneven. At 3:45 that day the temporary crown broke in half and I immediately called them. Their answering machine said that I had reached them during business hours and they were helping another patient and to leave a message which I did. I got in my car and rushed to their office and kept calling them over and over but always getting their voicemail. I arrived at their office at around 4:30 and all the lights were off and they were obviously closed, even though on the door it clearly said they close at 5 pm on Friday. At 5:15 I decided to try their office number again and now got a message saying that I had reached them after business hours and if this was a true emergency to call their emergency number which I did right away. I immediately recognized the voice of the same lady I had spoken with on the phone earlier and had taken my payment the previous day. She was clearly annoyed that a patient was calling her after business hours but did say she was going to look for an emergency dentist to help me. After 2 hours of not hearing from her I called the emergency number again which is now going straight to voice mail. I've been calling the same number all weekend and it always goes to voice mail. If I call from a different number though it rings but no one picks. It's clear that she has blocked my number and is not picking up the phone if she doesn't recognize the number. She also changed the voice mail message at the office, now when you call the office you get a message saying that if this is a true emergency to dial 911. According to the American Dental Association's Principles of Ethics and Code of Conduct, Section 4, paragraph 4.B. Emergency Service says: "Dentists shall be obliged to make reasonable arrangements for the emergency care of their patients of record. Not only have they NOT made reasonable arrangements for emergency care for me they have intentionally chosen to ignore my calls and pleas for help. I have lived in several cities and have been to many dentists and not all of them have been good but never have I experienced such HORRIBLE SERVICE and INHUMANE treatment. It's hard for me to even believe that people can care so little about another human being. There is NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for their behavior. read more

I spoke to someone in the office who said my son wouldn't need new xrays since his were relatively new (from another local pediatric dentist), but at the visit they refused to see him unless I allowed for xrays. Why expose a child to unneeded radiation? I conceded and we were seen. During that visit (just a visual exam and consultation) the pediatric dentist (who would later do the dental work) said the office policy was to administer NOS. When I explain his past success without it at a pediatric dentist whose office policy was to NEVER administer NOS, she agreed that my son seemed mature enough and experienced enough to not need it. Three months later (that's how long it takes to get an appointment there, they are THAT busy), I was asked to sign a consent for NOS. I declined and overheard the office staff discuss their disdain with my decision. I sat in with my son for the first 5min. During that time, the assistant tried to put the mask on my son and give him NOS. Luckily I was there to stop her! She said "seriously, you are going to put him through that?!" My son was just getting 2 fillings. I wanted to get on my soap box and explain to her that they were going to numb the area so he wouldn't feel pain. That the NOS is for anxiety, which he doesn't have. Why dope a kid with a drug that she isn't certified to administer AND is often unsupervised after administered AND over dosed causing a decrease in oxygen intake AND causing death in little tots all around the US!!" After his visit (30 min) she returns with my son, stating that he did well, but whimpered at times, so he wouldn't be seen again unless I consented to NOS. I asked if he was disruptive to the treatment: NO. Caused delays: NO. Seemed anxious:NO. So I then asked " Umm, so why the need for NOS?" She replied "Because the dentist prefers it." So I said "Oh, I see, it's the dentist with the anxiety to treat alert and conscious patients. Tell her to go work on the dead then." These people do NOT have the child's best interested in mind. They only care about their own comfort level. read more

Have referred several people there as Dr K was amazing! She has the best chairside manner and is very calming. I saw them due to an emergency last year and decided to become a patient of theirs, I have extreme dental anxiety and therefore do not do my regular cleanings as I should, making non emergency appts for cleaning is huge for me! Fast forward to today(tues), I have had an appt for 2 months for a cleaning, arranged for my toddler to have earlier daycare, fought for time off work(denied twice and had to fight for it), have had anxiety and panic attacks about the appt for over a week received a call on Friday to confirm, called back they were closed, I did not leave a message as I had done it previously and it was useless and still had to call back to reach someone, I thought nothing more of it, go to the appointment this morning and they had canceled it! They say they sent an email and text as well as the calls and the text said they cancel nonconfirmed appointments, I have received their promotional emails but never received a confirmation email or a text! Had they said on the voice message left they would cancel if not confirmed I definitely would have called back more and left a message for them, but all they said was they were calling to confirm! When asked and offering to show them my phone to see no text received they said it showed on their side it went thru and could care less that it actually didn't, advised them I had tried confirming on Friday but they were closed and it was no use leaving a message due to prior experience. Was basically called a liar and told all messages and calls are returned, umm ok I know from experience this is not true, but whatever. They offered to ask the hygienist to squeeze me in today when I came back in upset which is crap as I had an appt for 2 months and do not have the time to sit around to see if they can squeeze me in. I am very upset about this as the anxiety about this appt has been horrible, Dr K has started her own practice elsewhere, I will be following her as she was the best, and who wants to go somewhere were they cancel your appts that you schedule 2 months in advance and don't tell you until you show up?
