My mom and I went to this shop to buy a small lucky bamboo plant since Lunar New Year is almost here. The shop owner let me pick out which bamboo stalks I wanted for the arrangement, which is 3 small stalks for $1, and 2 medium stalks for $1. He told me how to take care of the plant, such as when to water it and how much light it needs. For the arrangement, including the bamboo, vase, luck charm (for the Lunar New Year festive spirit), and pebbles, it was only $5, which is really affordable compared to retail stores and some local florists. The place also sells bigger bamboo plants, orchids, small bonsai, and various other traditional plants. The bamboo arrangement I got is really cute and it sits in its new home with my other plants (photo). Also, when my mom went to the supermarket nearby and I had to wait for her, the owner got a chair for me to sit on so that I didn't have to stand outside. For the past 10 years, this place has been my go-to orchid shop. Not Sprouts, Trader Joe's, etc. I go here because the owners are kind and fair. You also can't beat their prices. If you are interested in orchids but are intimidated, the owners will walk you through how to care for them so they blossom season after season. They always have a variety of orchids to choose from and will help gift wrap them for any occasion. My mom is an orchid whisperer so variety is important. A review long overdue. I initially found out about this store probably much like how you came to be reading this review: typing "orchids" into the yelp bar. That was last year and up until that point, my main method of purchasing flowers of any kind was through online websites like 1800flowers. I figured the upcharge was worth the convenience. Thank god I finally came to my senses a year ago and started to look for things locally. My experience mirrors the other reviews in that I got great customer service, quality orchids, and an insanely low price. During my first visit, I was thoroughly intimidated. I didn't know the differences between the types of orchids, what a fair price was, or even that the size of the pot actually mattered and it wasn't just about the design. The owner was sure to give me a rundown through everything in a friendly manner and you could tell he genuinely loved his job. Owning a shop honestly seems to be more about giving him a chance to arrange orchids for other people and less about making any money. After realizing I had no business picking the flowers for the arrangement myself, I opted to select a choice from his photo album (definitely ask for this if you want to get ideas) and we arranged the pick-up to be made one week later. Coming from online websites, I was fully expecting to pay over $200 for the arrangement. He quoted me less than half of that. I was floored and started kicking myself for paying the ridiculous prices at online retailers. At ANY other online store, I'd get less flowers, shorter stems, a higher price, colors that aren't as vibrant, or all of the above. Oh, and you'd DEFINITELY get it with a basic pot. Saying I was happy with my purchase is a severe understatement. Fast forward a year later today and my mom's birthday totally slipped my mind until the day before (sorry, mom!). I didn't have the luxury of waiting a week but I still wanted something that wasn't just a single orchid. I asked him if he would be able to complete an arrangement by today. Keep in mind it was about 5:45 PM and they close at 7 PM so I was fully expecting him to say no. He laughed and said he'd be able to do it in 15 minutes easy. I chose the arrangement, colors, then left him to his devices. Lo and behold, he really did finish in 15 minutes. I was afraid of what he'd ask for this time considering this was practically a rush order. At any other flower shop, I'm sure I'd either be asked to come back the next day or be charged extra since it was less than an hour to closing time. Nope. He charged me the same price per stem as last year. I seriously don't understand how this shop manages to stay afloat because there's no way they're profiting from anything. I gave him an extra $5 because I felt like I was scamming him. Maybe you don't realize how huge that is but I don't tip. At all. Anywhere. Whether it's a $5 bill or $100, I don't tip my waiters. That's how bad I felt. Next time, when he's asking me for my budget, I'll be sure to say at least $100 at minimum (sorry I'm still cheap). tl;dr Go to this shop for your orchids. I promise you it will be your go-to store for years to come. read more

I came here the other day along with my grandmother because both of us are orchid fanatics! Living in the Orange County area, nurseries that are dedicated to just orchids are a needle in the haystack. Not feeling like going to San Diego or Los Angeles I found this place with a simple search of "orchid" on Yelp. The location is right next to the supermarket in the Pagoda Plaza. It is very easy to find due to the large display of plants in the front, but is also conspicuous because the store has no large visible sign. Upon walking in we were presented with a school of phalaenopsis orchids ranging from the purist whites to splatters of violet and magenta. If you want a simple orchid, then there are a lot of colors to choose from. However if you're a hobbyist like me, the store contains many specimens of dendrobiums, oncidiums, and my favorite, cattleyas. One thing for sure though is that they do not carry the same flowers in stock all the time. Every two weeks or so there are always new exotic plants that enter the premises. The kind man and lady who own the establishment kindly greeted me and my grandma, offering us insights of how their store came to be, where they source their orchids, how to care for them, and aiding in which orchid is appropriate based on your circumstances. A pro about this place is that they also do not throw out their orchids once blooms have dropped. Although the orchid has lost its luster, it is very much alive. And due to the lack of blooms, the price significantly drops! (Hooray for discounts) so if you're confident enough to pick up these bloom-less orchids and provide them with love and care, they'll surely reward you with blooms every year. My wife and I had a great experience here. The owner is a nice sweet man who really takes pride in his orchids and how they look. He gave us a good deal on four sets of orchids for Mother's Day. Good thing we didn't go to a random grocery market! He gave us a way better deal and they were beautiful. He took extra time to make sure the flowers were arranged perfectly. This is another divey store near the big grocery store in one of Little Saigon's plazas. Based on my quite limited knowledge of plant pricing, this place seemed to boast sales of orchids and other exotic flora for fair prices equivalent to or less than Trader Joe's (~$20 for a good-sized orchid), although sometimes the quality was lacking. Plus, the owner is quite attentive and friendly and willing to please. I was saying how this little flower plants ($2.50) would be great little centerpieces for a wedding (either one or one per person so everyone can take one home!). She said then and there that she would give me a good deal. However, I let her know I wasn't quite there yet in my life's trajectory. All the same, if/when I get there and I'm in LA and want to keep things cost-friendly, sustainable (plant centerpieces rather than cut flowers), and cute, I'll be back. read more

After visiting a couple of orchid shops in Westminster that were a bit rude, we stopped by Smile Buddha, whose owners were extremely accommodating and friendly in making an orchid arrangement for our mother's birthday celebration in mid July. The orchids still look the same as when they were purchased a month and a half later-- very healthy and vibrant orchids!
