Me and the super kind office manager Ian
Owen C.

The greatest dental experience ever! The team here was super warm and welcoming starting with the office manager, front desk staff, all the way to the hygienists and the dentist. I've never had dental work explained so well to me with options that made me feel like I was in control of my own health. I feel empowered now to keep this going!

Clean and modern office

I came in for a general dental cleaning and Dr. Tian noticed I had adhesive residue from my braces removal over three years ago. She offered to remove it with no additional charge. I am impressed by the thoughtful service and attention to detail. The office is modern and the staff was very friendly. I had a wonderful experience and will certainly be returning for my future dental needs.

Dr. Tian! Loving my cool eye coverings

Going to the dentist has never been an exhilarating experience for me. Knowingly subjecting yourself to random nerve pains and feeling like you'd get upsold by the dentists. I've had one too many encounters and have changed dentists COUNTLESS TIMES. Well, that totally changed with Dr. Tian and Dr. Michael, and the smile. 4S Ranch team. Firstly, the decor in the dentistry makes you feel like you're walking into a posh, upscale mall. You actually WANT to be there. Check-ins are all done on iPads, COVID-19 procedures are safely followed. The equipment itself is the latest and greatest. The dental chairs had MASSAGE FEATURES!!!! Instead of a lame picture on the ceiling, you had live streaming TV! (I got in a good movie or two). Even the coverings for your eyes look cool. Dr. Tian helped conduct my full comprehensive exam, and I appreciated the full transparency and explanation to what was going on with my dental situation. She was very clear with showing me exactly what was going on with my teeth, explaining to me my X-rays, and detailing out the pros/cons of the next plan of action. I felt completely trusting of the proposed solution. No one likes the words "deep cleaning", but it had to get done. I was assigned to Selena. Firstly, customer service was incredible. She actually cared about me as a person, and we walked out as friends (thanks again for the Santa Barbara recs! It turned out to be an amazing time with the wifey!) She was diligent with her task, and very careful to make sure that I wasn't in any pain at all. Even though my cleaning took almost 3 hours (she was extremely detail-oriented in a good way), I experienced ZERO PAIN! She must've done a great job with that anesthesia haha! But this was the very time a cleaning was truly enjoyable. The hours went by quickly. The experience was great. Pricing very, VERY fair, especially for the experience that you get. I can't believe I'm saying this...but I look FORWARD to my follow-up deep cleaning session for the other half of my mouth! If you're looking for an honest dentistry that does high quality work, this is the go-to place!

Let's be honest... no one wakes up excited for a deep gum cleaning. It's uncomfortable, and there…read morewere moments I was gripping the chair. But Dr. Nina and her staff are ahhhh-mazing. She's kind, reassuring, and didn't dismiss my fears. She took the time to answer every question and made sure I was okay. The follow-ups afterward were just as impressive. I needed a crown at the second appointment. They knocked everything out in one visit. No temporary crown, no coming back, no extra hassle. I'll happily trade an extra hour for having to rearrange my schedule for a second appointment. A huge shout-out to the front office staff. Instead of just running my insurance (and credit card!) and calling it a day, they actually worked to find the most cost effective option for me. The fact they played the "Insurance Game" (which is the worst game ever invented) shows that they care. The office is clean and incredibly organized. Scheduling was easy, and despite being a busy practice, everything felt well run. A couple of minor drawbacks: they're definitely on the pricier side, but I truly think the quality of care and convenience justify it. Also, the treatment areas are separated by dividers instead of walls, so if the person next to you is giving their life story to the hygienist... congratulations, you're part of the conversation too. It creates a busier atmosphere and doesn't offer as much privacy as a traditional office. TLDR: Yes. This is the place you want to go.

In my previous procedures, I have had high levels of anxiety, and the doctors worked with me to make my appointments run smoother IE letting my loved one sit with me during the procedure and reducing the amount of items in my mouth. It's never been fun, but it's been manageable. Yesterday I went in for a possible crown and was given something like 4-6 shots of Novocain, none of which were working. I had a legitimate panic attack by myself in one of their separate rooms and was pushed to come back on drugs as they had other patients to see. I spent the next 8 hours of my day, not having had any work done, unable to go to my job due to not being able to function half of my face. The Novocain certainly was working about 30 minutes after I left. I know that I am not the easiest patient, but I genuinely feel traumatized after my last appointment. I am used to being listened to and accommodated in this office, and I hated feeling, capital P, Pushed to take strong medicines I am uncomfortable with, when the solution is as easy as letting someone's loved one sit with them. Yes, in their defense, they have one doctor now and they had other people to get to, but who can blame anyone for being dissatisfied leaving an healthcare office like that. I felt brutalized.

Naoko, the hygienist, was absolutely wonderful; so gentle and thorough, she totally made me feel so comfortable. My teeth felt so clean and shiny when she was done. Unfortunately, since Dr. Raymond Wright took over my care, my experience has changed dramatically. My biggest concern is his lack of communication and bedside manner. During multiple visits regarding ongoing pain in a tooth, I felt dismissed, interrupted, and unheard. Rather than listening to my concerns and working collaboratively to identify the cause of the pain, I was repeatedly told, "There's nothing else I can do." At one point, he even blamed me for not bringing up a concern that I had, in fact, already tried to explain. The issue began after he replaced some resin on the side of a tooth to address sensitivity. The pain continued, and my bite felt noticeably off afterward. When I returned for a cleaning and to discuss the ongoing discomfort, he seemed uninterested in investigating the issue. He suggested the bite problem was caused by grinding or clenching, despite no history of those issues and no evidence of wear on my other teeth. He then stated that I would need additional imaging or a referral to a periodontist, only to once again conclude that there was nothing else he could do. What was most frustrating was the inconsistency. After repeatedly saying there were no options, he later suggested replacing a partial filling on the very tooth that was causing the problem. If that was a possible solution, why wasn't it part of the conversation from the beginning? Adding to my disappointment, my routine cleaning was performed by Dr. Wright rather than the hygienist and lasted only a few minutes. My teeth honestly did not feel cleaned, polished, or cared for in the way I have come to expect from this office over the years. The front office staff and hygienists have always been kind and professional, which makes this review difficult to write. However, after multiple appointments where I felt dismissed rather than cared for, I have decided to seek dental care elsewhere. My advice to prospective patients is simple: be prepared to strongly advocate for yourself. Ask questions, push for explanations, and make sure your concerns are fully heard. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
