I have not been to the gym, so I can only comment on the online classes during SIP. I have taken Chris's classes back when he taught at the Sunnyvale gym, so I already know he's awesome. The online classes did not disappoint. They were hard but not impossible. Coach Chris is always there to push you for one more rep. The community is equally supportive. read more

#14 This was my first ever experience at a gym that offered "boxing" in Cali. I had an amazing time. A couple friends were boxing and working out for fun and several of us went to watch and cheer them on, and it was a great excuse to get together and drink after the "work out" and watch our friends exercise. Parking is pretty easy as there is a lot surrounding the building, and it is pretty secure. We walked into the gym and were greeted by a pretty lady while we looked around at all the equipment, the ring and the exercise areas. There were a few trainers there working with the guys as they were preparing to work out--in a totally friendly fashion. It was all fun. We grabbed a seat atop an area that was obviously for the housing of "things" and "personal" property towards the ring. It was intense, but fun. Who would have ever thought of such a crazy thing to do with their closest friends in tow? The bathrooms were clean, and the whole gym was well kept. If I boxed I would consider this gym; however, I am simply a runner :( no boxing for me. I would definitely come back and see other "work outs" between friends for fun as this was a cool place that many people already knew about. (I'm late sometimes for knowing what the cool things to do are). The whole staff was really hospitable for our activity and made sure we all had room to cheer and watch, as there were about 65 of us taking pics and making vids. With a positive team and a great outlook on fitness, this is a wonderful gym replete with trainers, activities and equipment for the masses. Stephani Smiles for the True Fight Club ;) #bringyourgloves read more

I love that I gave this hidden gem a chance. Ever since Covid hit and 24 hour fitness has been closed, I was needing something else to get me back into shape and feel motivated. I live around this neighborhood and noticed people working out outside in the mornings and afternoons. I took interest and decided to call to see what this gym was all about. Christopher (the owner) was nice enough to give me insight on the type of classes they offer and what they're all about. He was also nice enough to let me try out a class to see if it would be a good fit for me. To be honest -- I fell in love with working out again. They focus on a full body work out and use weights. This was something I really like because I want to get healthier, tone my body and just feel confident again. The price is a bit high but if you are willing to invest in yourself (which i think is always a great investment!) it is waaaayyy worth it. The staff is great, the camaraderie is awesome and the sanitization is on point! By the way, this place also sells bars, weights, bikes and everything else you might need to have your own gym at home. Made in the USA too! read more

First of all, I'm not to be confused with the Mark S. that reviewed this on 9/8/2009, just thought I'd point that out. I literally just started training here near the end of March which is when they just started up the 7:30pm Tues and Thurs Muay Thai classes, and I have never felt better! Coming into the gym on my first night I got to talk to Chris and he was able to give me the lowdown on prices, which sounded very reasonable to me ($90/month with 1 year contract) he even offered me 2 free trial days to try out the classes. When I came in the following Thursday night I got to meet Evan who was very friendly even though I know this guys Pro MMA record is like 3-2-0 (1 NC) he was very approachable and very quick to answer any questions I had about the gym, technique, equipment, or even borrowing a book from his library, and the workout is definitely no joke, I haven't sweated like I did since... since never?! You just definitely have to try it out yourself, I think I overheard one of the members say they "felt like throwing up" after last mondays class and I agree I almost felt the same (luckily I didn't eat anything heavy lol). Also one big plus, I am a father to a 3 year old (4 years by this July) and Evan told me I can have my son hang around the gym while I trained, which was very cool and helpful when I don't have anyone that can watch him, he even let me use the focus mitts so that I can do some combos with my son (which he's getting better at after every visit to the gym) although he isn't old enough yet I will definitely be enrolling my son to the Kids Muay Thai (5-9 yr olds) as soon as he turns 5. Everything else has been covered by the other reviewers so I don't even need to get into that, my best advice is that you come in for your free trial class, and give this place a shot if you're looking to get back into shape or even get competitive (I might even start to fight competitively once I drop a few weight classes), and one thing I'd like to mention I used to be in a competitive Tae Kwon Do sparring team 2 years ago and comparing it to Muay Thai training would be an understatement.. True Fight Club's Muay Thai/Boxing Training is INTENSE and will work you! read more

Evan and Brian are awesome!! My 7 year old started going here several months back and it's the best decision I made for him! He absolutely loves this place. It's affordable and flexible as well, he can go any days he wants within a 6 day per week span. Although I can take him only 2 days per week because of my schedule, it's still good enough for him. I drop him off at 3:45 and since they have 2 kids classes I don't have to come back until 5:30 and this allows me to go back to work, then pick up my daughter and get to him just on time! From a mom of 2 I totally recommend this place! This place is trustworthy with some of the best trainers! Thanks Evan for having such a wonderful place so close by to us. read more

I just moved from Oakland where I trained at PRS so I was looking forward to getting back into a gym similar to that. I am pleasantly impressed with all of the options Smash has and the trainers are very good. I have primarily focused on training boxing and Muay Thai and and the classes are on the smaller size. The instructors give clear instructions and incorporate light sparring into some of the work outs which is a nice aspect of the class. I have not attended the cross fit or jiu jitsu classes yet but they look well run and full at most classes. read more

After graduating from college, I landed a fantastic, albeit sedentary, full-time computer job and moved back home to the 'burbs. The local 24 Hour Fitness just wasn't cutting it anymore, and I'd always had an interest in learning self-defense. (Ok, so maybe I just wanted to learn how to fight like River Tam in Serenity, but that's another story.) I Yelped a few martial arts programs, but it was the name "True Fight Club" that stood out to me. Could all those 5-star reviews, claims of getting the best workout ever, and glowing remarks about the gym's friendly atmosphere be true? After I spent a few weeks trying to assure myself that I would not get pummeled to death in my first class, I decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did. True Fight Club is like my home away from home and is one of the best things I signed up for this year. Here are 7 reasons why I love this place and why you will too: 1) Friendly, chill vibe. This is truly unique about the gym. They try really hard to say hi to everyone who walks in. People bring their kids, who go nuts swinging at the punching bags. Yes, if you wanted, you could check-in and check-out, but most people get their workout on, hangout and chat, and get together outside of the gym too. You really feel like a part of a fighting family here. 2) Cool space and equipment. It's a bit on the small side, but when the doors are open, the place feels spacious, open, and breezy. I like the outdoor gym area too. There are treadmills, kettle balls, battle ropes, pull-up bars, weights, punching bags, speed bag, handwraps, punching gloves, thai pads, sparring gear, locker rooms, shower, and more. The gym employees are also quite prompt about cleaning the mats frequently. 3) Excellent workout. You will sweat. Sometimes you will feel like throwing up. Sometimes you'll come home to eat dinner and your arms will be shaking too much to lift your fork. However, you WILL get stronger, better, and faster. You'll fit into clothes you haven't worn in years. Months later, your friends that haven't seen you in awhile will compliment you on your new Terminator physique. (They'll also be afraid you'll go Terminator on them, but we always use our powers for good.) 4) Supportive of all levels. Disclaimer: I've only been training for 4 months, so yes, I am a n00b and I probably don't know what makes someone good or not. That said, a number of students train for competitions, so if you are looking to bring your technique to the next level, there is something for you. At the same time, even if you're a petite girl like me with no martial arts background, you won't get left behind in class. Everyone gets pushed to their limits, no matter their skill or athletic level. 5) Variety of classes every day. There are early morning classes for the crazies who like running around at 7AM, noon time classes for those who like boxing out their frustrations during their lunch breaks, evening classes for the worker-bee drones, and weekend classes for people like me who don't have a life. It's really, really flexible. Even when I was working full-time and taking 2 classes at Chabot, I found classes to fit into my schedule. 6) Awesome teachers. Every instructor here is enthusiastic, supportive, and friendly. Even in the busiest of classes, they take the time to work with each student one-on-one. They are really patient and work with you to make sure you get it right and don't hurt yourself. Evan, the gym owner, is both a pro-MMA fighter and a very supportive teacher. 7) Reasonable membership rate. No, it's not the 24 Hour Fitness rate, but you get what you pay for. Since I had to move out of the area to Berkeley, I've been shopping for a new gym, and I have to say that True Fight Club offers one of the best membership deals around. So what are you still reading this Yelp review for? LET'S GO! read more

Let me start off by saying "thank god this place opened up in Hayward." With my schedule, I have been looking for a place that offers daytime classes in Muay Thai for a very long time now. The closest gym to the Tri-City area are either in Oakland or in San Jose. I could no longer continue to drive over an hour to attend a one-hour class. And being that I live in Hayward, this place is a godsend. As for the gym itself, you can truly see that Evan, the owner, really cares about his gym by the way he keeps it clean and spends good money providing top-notch equipment for all to use. And his rates are truly top-notch. Especially for what the gym has to offer. Muay Thai, MMA, boxing, and now wrestling and judo. You would expect to pay at least twice what TFC charges to be able to take all these classes in one roof. I like that everyone started at about the same time, because even though the level of expertise varies, there is definitely a sense of family here. Everyone pushes each other and tries to make each other better. So come on out and take the free trial class. Gloves and wraps are even available for you to use if you don't have any. And if you partner up with me, be warned because I will push you as hard as I can. This is a cardio workout that beats all else. You will be needing a bucket for the sweat that you will be losing... read more

Given, I only went to one lesson, and it was a women's class.. this place is great! My friend Jeremy had reviewed it previously, under my alias, but given the circumstances, I though I'd give this place it's dues. Evan is a solid teacher and a stand up guy. He does his best to teach the correct techniques and provides you with gear if you don't have it. did I mention I only went to one class? Evan tries to get you in to give you the best workout for your buck. But luckily, I'm slick and avoided his phone calls and facebook msgs. (Sorry for that!) But alas, I moved out of town to an area well known by Evan, and he even suggested some great spots that i need to try. If you're in Hayward/ San Lorenzo area, check this place out, you'll love it, promise. read more

An 80's baby who has been into traditional martial arts since ever since, I only stepped away from it for a newfound love of football entering teenhood (still playing, wheels falling off) and military service. Leaving for service in 02, MMA gyms weren't plentiful just yet. I moved back to the area after a decade of service and finishing school at UC Berkeley. MMA gyms are a dime a dozen and you don't know what quality you're getting in general, and for your dollar. I commute to Berkeley for work, shuffle around my 4 kids and I'm also a fitness and performance trainer on the side. After research and knowing fighters at the gym, I chose CSA in Pleasanton but this that commute wasn't feasible. Luckily, I learned that the owner of BAFA in Hayward was an instructor of mine back in the 90's from a very reputable Kung Fu academy in Fremont. I trust Eric and his establishment because I know his background and his upbringing through the martial arts pre-MMA. I chose BAFA for my 10 yr old son and I. We love it. I am focusing on Muay Thai at the moment while I get my fundamentals re-squared away and only because of a change in schedule at work did I have to step away from BAFA. The kids classes still work perfectly and we love it there so my son will continue at BAFA. BUT back to the drawing board for me. Matching budget, schedule, quality training and proper "fit" for me was a task. Luckily, again, I landed nearby at True Fight Club. I was greeted with enthusiastic convo where I let them know my background, where I've been training and why I came here. Transparency and no-bullshit are the foundation of my adulthood. I was pleased to learn I was welcomed there(I was hoping I wouldn't run into unknown MMA "politics" coming from training elsewhere) and the owner is also a Marine Veteran. A compromise of budget, schedule, commute and training had been found and here I am now. I haven't utilized the CrossFit side of the house yet but regular convo, interaction with and observation of his training convinced me fully that Chris is one hell of a passionate, thorough and knowledgeable trainer. read more

I just started my membership here yesterday and sheesh; I'm freaking sore! Both Evan and Dennis are pretty cool instructors. They not only push you to give it your best shot but they also don't make you feel alienated here. Kind of reminds me of going to a family party and having everyone want you to keep going for what you want in life and laughs with you not at you. They also provide you with a hands on chiropractor/ nutritionist so we can get the Lehman's terminology of health... lets all be honest sometimes we barely know what we're buying for ourselves when it comes to nutrition. Lol! but its ok Cris and Dr. Melissa a can help and is only a phone call/ visit away. I can tell that I will definitely get fit and feel fantastic when my goal is finally attained! Where else can I hit other people without getting in trouble or making someone cry? I love it already! read more

After shopping around for other gyms, I found that True Fight Club had the best prices and the best atmosphere out of all the gyms near by. Unlike other gyms that charge "per class," TFC charges a flat rate. You can attend as many classes you want in a day, whichever class you want. You can chose between a 1 yr contract or pay monthly which is great. They also offer contract freezes just in case you need time off. They definitely don't make you feel like a stranger. I was kindly greeted right when I walked in. They were helpful, informative, and didn't try to push me to join. Evan even squeezed in time to talk to me while teaching class. Motivated and ready for a change, I walked into TFC weighing roughly 198-200 lbs. I did my first on May 6th and have been going 4-5 times a week since. It's only been a few months and I've dropped down to 174 lbs! I'm not going to lie, the first few classes were tough! Dennis is notorious for his cross fit style exercises and Evan's combos left me gasping for air. Nothing good ever comes easy so I grew to love it! Not once did I feel intimidated while training. The classes are all great and the students are all cool and respectful. I'm 100% satisfied with my decision to join this gym. Not only do I notice change in my health and appearance, I also notice a change in my self esteem and confidence. I eat better and take care of myself a whole lot more than before. I used to be the shy guy that would easily back down, give up, and was pushed around for a good part of my life. TFC helped get me out of that rut, I feel like that part of me is gone. read more

I've been training here for about 7 months and I can say I'm pleased with my comittment/investment in this gym. The people here have really become like a second family . Also my skills, especially my hand speed and power have improved dramatically. The primary coaches/trainers (Evan, Brian, Israel) are all quality individuals that have helped create a fun laid back atmosphere but without skipping the attention detail. So check your ego at the door. They also have a vast amount of experience combined in the three primary disciplines that are coached here: Boxing, Muay Thai, and Jiu Jitsu. Aside from the great atmosphere and quality training taught here, the flexibility of being open on the weekends and the newly added Crossfit training has really created tremendous value for the price points offered. There are other gyms that aren't open on weekends at all which sucks. So if you are on the fence about which Martial Arts gym to join in the bay, you owe it to yourself to do a free trial week here to help determine if this is a good fit for you. read more

I have been going here for a month now and I love this place....I used to by a gym rat. You would find me at the gym 7 days a week lifting weights and running but that does eventually get boring and after a while just not as fun...I have already lost 10lbs since I joined....Every class is fun, works out your whole body and you don't even realize 1 hour has past by the time you are done...Great place for women to learn self defense also.. The instructors are great..they are always there to listen and help you with all your questions...all the guys that come to this gym are friendly and very helpful also...Great place too work out all and all....You will not regret it read more

The facility is fantastic and the trainer/owner Evan Esguerra is amazing. I've trained with Evan before he opened the gym, and he is a great trainer despite your training level. Whether your a woman trying to get in shape, a parent looking to get your kids involved in a great sport, or someone looking to get into competitive fighting - this is a great gym. The facilities and equipment are great. Evan's teaching and training style shift to work with the group he is working. Pure Awesome. Those are the two words that best discribe this place. I was a complete novice when it came to anything that this school offers, but True Fight Club offers a place where someone like myself can learn or a more experienced person to improve. Gloves/pads are provided, you just need to show up! Mats, ring, heavy bags, and speed bags are some of the equipment that True Fight Club offers. Evan offers a great atmosphere to learn and all of the students have been great. read more

Five stars is is not enough to express my gratitude for this place. I began training here almost 2 years ago and it is truly been a positive/humbling experience in my life. All the coaches from boxing to MuayThai to Boot Camp really invest in your life and want you to be better for you. My brother also attends the kids Muay Thai class and it has really boosted his self-confidence and it is a wonderful place to be. I really enjoy this place because there's a warm and welcoming environment for four people of all body types and ages and skill level. I have trained with the owner Evan prior to the opening of True Fight Club. He's a really nice guy but will push you to the limit when it comes to training. I like that! I am a female novice fighter who trains not to compete but for fitness and self-defense. But regardless of where I go, I am into learning proper technique. There are so many gyms that I have been to where they just teach and don't correct your mistakes. Or because I am a female they think I am there just for a workout. I wanna get down with the best of 'em! Evan really spends the time and is very attentive to his students. He makes you feel as if you are really benefiting from the training you are getting and you can see the progress right away! It is a warm and friendly environment for people like me but at the same time, it is extremely challenging and competitive when it needs to be. The place is super clean because its a pretty new gym and the trainers aren't just great fighters, they are great teachers (this is huge, i've taken classes from fighters that know they're all that but can't teach for the life of them. How is that suppose to benefit anyone?). I currently live in Brooklyn, NY. I didn't really know where to start to look for a good gym so I went to train at Tiger Shullman (Below Average, they were offering a really great trial special for 6 weeks!). After that experience I contacted Evan to see if he knew of any good places to train out here . I have since been to Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on 30th and 7th in Manhattan. Really great place for Jiu Jitsu and The Wat specializing in Muay Thai in SoHo. Both were excellent suggestions from Evan but at the same time, I still have not found a place where I feel comfortable enough to seriously train like I did when I was at True Fight Club. Check it out. Best Training in the Bay and most competitively priced! read more

I've been training here since March and honestly, this has to be one of the better gyms that I have trained at around the tri-city area. The atmosphere is great because the people here are great. Evan is the owner/trainer. He's a cool dude, he really makes you feel welcomed and pushes you to work hard. Evan also helps you out with your technique individually and knows his stuff. The students here are cool too. Everyone works as a team, pushes each other, and all that good stuff... There's classes everyday except for Sundays... so this place is perfect for those who need a flexible schedule like myself. Sparring is everyday too... it's great, every time I go I learn how to not get my butt kicked as much as the day before. That's how I know I'm getting better! All joking aside, just come by and take your free class, meet the trainers, meet the students, train hard, push yourself, and become a part of the True Fight Club family. No egos, no favoritism, just guaranteed fun. I'm lovin' this spot, and I don't plan on leaving it. Come by and experience it for yourself! read more

good place to get fit but a bad place if you are different from everybody because the owner, Evan Esguerra, is the biggest bully I've ever met. Makes me wanna slap my mama! On my mama! I really like this place. I especially appreciate its convenience (to me), courteous (and patient!) staff, variety of classes (for kids and adults), diversity of customers, and the availability of equipment. I was introduced to True Fight Club via a Groupon, and I don't have much experience martial arts or boxing. Without fail, the instructors were very patient and went out of their way to keep the uncoordinated (that would be me!!!) on track and teach good form/technique. The only drawbacks are its size (very small facility) and limited parking. read more

The cross fit and boot camp classes are amazing. The instructor, Chris, is always prepared for class. He is able to handle large and small groups of participants and he makes modifications for members that are not able to do certain movements. The classes are great for beginners and advanced. It does not surprise me as he's a great trainer. I have not tried any of the martial arts classes offered by the gym, so I cannot speak to those. read more

I trained here about year ago, under a three month down pay package deal. Enjoyed it thoroughly! They have a great Muay Thai instructor in the morning, I think his name was Enn, I also think he came from Fairtex. I already had experience with Muay Thai, so was kind of disappointed they didn't have advance technique class but if you found a experienced partner, the training was good. I didn't take advantage of all they had to offer(BJJ,Western Boxing and I thought they had wrestling) due to my schedule at the time. If I wasn't broke and the distance from my house wasn't a issue, I'd probably have continued to train here. They are truly an inexpensive treasure sitting in Hayward waiting to be found, if it's still the same there's no initial enrollment fee, which gyms in the bay love to rip you on! read more

I love this place!! I've been going for two years now and its wonderful. It is so easy to feel uncomfortable in a gym like this, especially when you are female, but thats not how it works at TFC at all. I tell my husband all the time how sweet these big muay thai guys are, it feels like family. The classes are awesome. I typically come to Chris or Evans noon class (love having noon classes!!!!). They are both excellent instructors. They make sure you are doing the moves correctly and work one on one with students frequently. The other students are so helpful and friendly and are incredibly motivating. I have lost 20 pounds since I started and I am stronger, a lot stronger. I try to do a variety of workouts in a week, but honestly I tend to get bored pretty easily with the monotony of running and the like. That never happens at TFC. I go in, I work really, really hard, I sweat, and I look up at the clock and the class is done. I feel happy and satisfied with myself and I am sore the next day in the best way. I'm totally and completely hooked! I hate it when I can't get there on regular basis. If I don't make it for a week, it nags at me, I just gotta go. Thats the secret to a great gym, one that you WANT to go to. They couldn't get rid of me if they tried. Oh, and the new gym is beautiful! read more
