The Smart Styles at the Walmart at 3770 highway 395 in Carson City Nevada quoted my $325 for the service she requested and when she got there the price went up considerably. The manager literally ignored her the first few minutes she was there. Needless to say my wife turned around and walked out. The salon does not honor on line appointments. Have gone here twice after making an on line appointment only to be told "it's going to be over an hour wait so go do some shopping and I'll try to get you in later". This was said with no apology or concern about retaining me as a customer so I won't be back. Their prices keep going up ridiculously. Beware unethical practices - Charged 80% more without permission. Waddled in at 9 months pregnant for a full head of highlights and cut with Sarah. Walked out in tears at being charged $115 without being informed of $50 in additional charges. Story: I was in desperate need of something that would last the first few months of our expecting little one so I scheduled some natural highlights as the first apt of the day 9:30 am on Saturday. I also did a trim a little bit more then what you see in the blue shirt and we did an all over dark brown highlight. I was asked how I wanted my highlights and I told her, whatever she believes is best due to my circumstances. (Won't be able to come back for 2 months most likely) The wash out chair was uncomfortable but overall the process was fine and highlights did turn out decently. She asked if I wanted to dry it, I said yes. Blow Dry- took 10 minutes and my hair was frizzy and not very polished but I wasn't too fussed about it since I understood it was included after doing a full head of highlights and I wasn't informed otherwise anyway. The problem came up when I was checking out. My bill jumped from $65 to $115. I asked where all the charges were from and I was confused. She said, "oh I charged you because your hair was thicker (not mentioned, or displayed on any signage) and then the style (the blow dry charge of near $20) and toner ($20.) I can 100% appreciate if I am requesting something outside the scope of what the package covers that I should pay more. What I am NOT comfortable with is only finding out I was charged almost double only when I am checking out and never getting questioned once for 3 different charges if that was okay before beginning or anytime during the appointment. Or any signage on the walls indicating there was more services then advertised. I was obviously upset and mentioned to Sarah twice, that she really need to have told me about the extra charges at checkout and that is not very right to do. She apologized but did not do anything to make a substantial correction to the charges. I still her tipped 15% but truly feel taken advantage of. While in the store I called customer service to let them know what had happened. I was told I would receive a f/up within 72 hours (to allot for it being a Saturday.) I did receive a call to verify my compliant but have not gotten a follow up or call to date since and was only told she would coach Sarah in the future not to do that and also Sarah should not have informed me during our appointment she worked on commission. I am very dismayed at the situation and even more so with the district manager for not following up as expected. If you go here, it will be annoying but ask at every turn.. "is there an additional charge for that?" All in all buyer beware. read more

I called in for an appointment to have my haircut just to find out that the place was closed and after calling the smart style on the North Carson side, I found out that the only hairstylist called in sick. What a horrific experience. She was in a big hurry even though it was just me and one other customer and 4 employees. She cut 6 of my toes and they bled and it was painful. Then a quick foot massage and she was gone. I sat there for 15 minutes then told the lady next to me that a foot file was never used. She called the employee over and I told her that their menu for the regular pedicure ($30) says a foot file will be used on the dry skin. She said, "$40.00." Then I realize they're scamming me but I said ok because that was the main thing I wanted done. She spent 1 second on each foot, so really no dry skin was removed. Then she grabbed a dirty wet towel that had someone else's gunk and dead skin on it and wiped my feet and cut up toes off with it. I've never been so disgusted in my life. Went to the register paid the $40.00 and asked for a receipt and she said, "no receipts." So I started to walk out and she says, "tip??" I just stared at her for a minute then left. I now have to worry if I'm going to get foot fungus or a bad infection. Hours later and my toes and feet still hurt so bad. read more

Let me start by saying l have never in my life paid this much money to have my hair done and not that well. She bleached my pants and got dye on my shirt. She didn't go all the way to the root around my temples and left dried bleach behind my ear. All for the low low price (NOT) of $178.88! At Smart Styles inside Walmart of all places!!! So l had to do a last minute appointment for a wedding l was going to in 3 days because my regular stylist had a plumbing emergency at her salon. l checked out the website and looked at prices. Seemed like a good deal. l called and spoke to April and she said she could schedule me an appoint for that day and l told her what l needed done. When l got there April was at lunch so Sarah said she could do it for me and say me down. No discussion of prices or add ons and extras. We did blonde highlights at the top and touched up my ends with red/brown with a semi permanent color (my hair is at my shoulders and not thick). She trimmed me up and dried me off after a quick shampoo and conditioner. She told me the total was $177.88. What a total shock. When l asked for explanation of the chargers she didn't given one other then she did a specialty color for me. WHAT!?!? l paid and still have her a 22% tip and she walked out the store to lunch. When l looked over the receipt further l noticed she had charged me 3 times for color and charged additional for a cut and shampoo and conditioning. When l looked back at the menu it showed the prices for what they offered and all three sets of "color" she has charged me for include a cut and shampoo and conditioner. One charge for $64.97 another for $59.97, the third was for $29.97 and finally the cut and shampoo for $19.97. l was not happy at all. l attempted to get resolution from another stylists and she told me l had to wait for Sarah to come back. l waited an hour for her to come back from lunch to discuss why she had overcharged me $80.00 by my calculations based on the services l had done. When she returned she was less then plesed to see me in the store. l asked her to explain the charges to me again and she got irritated. l went over the items she charged me for and told her that the menu says it includes a hair cut so she has over charged me now for color and the cut and shampoo. She said "we do ala cart here l can't adjust prices". l asked her why she didn't go over any prices or her ala cart menu prior to even touching my hair. Her response was "oh yeah, we never discussed prices, l thought about that". ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? l again explained to her how she is overcharging for services multiple times on my receipt and she said "what you want money back, You'll have to talk to my manager l can't just give you money back". Went in to get my daughter a trim they took about six inches off guess our interpretation of the word trim differs, and it was not straight! I noticed it at the salon and the stylist was like "oh yeah" and "fixed" it but she still didn't do a good job as the cut is still not straight. I called to ask about having someone correct the cut and about returning some products I bought. Natalie was rude saying that I could not return the products due to Covid and that there is a sign in the salon. They did not make me aware that purchasing products was final, whatever that's not a big deal but when I pointed out that the receipt states 7 days for product return, Natalie said "Have a nice day" in a dismissive fashion and hung up on me! Got my hair washed, trimmed and blow dried. The woman who did it, Sarah, rushed my trim, didn't use any products and gave me a bad blow dry. She didn't talk and gave the impression that she could care less if my hair looked good or would return. I had to ask her to put Something in my hair, she chose hairspray. Kept burning my ear with the hair dryer. I over paid for crappy service! $22.95 for shampoo and trim and $10 for a blow dry that she left parts of my hair still wet. OMG!!! I found an amazing Colorist and Stylist , Yvonne, at "Smart Style" in the Walmart Mall. A totally unexpected and happy find. I just moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area , am a professional actor and model, and have been going to a very high end, and well known stylist there for years. However, I was in BEYOND dire need of a color and cut NOW, and walked into "Smart Style", spoke to Janie (another great stylist) about what I could do ASAP v (I had a box of L'Oreal or whatever hair color in my hand; which was the reason I was in Walmart in the first place, an acute sign of desperation, and has always ended up being a horrific mistake the 3 times I've used it..).Janie referred me to,and booked me an appointment with Yvonne the next day. Yvonne did a beautiful, and amazing job on my hair. Best Color ,Cut , and Styling I've had in years! She really listened to what I wanted, and made suggestions as to what would be best for my type of hair(fine), and facial structure, and coloring (ok- and the freaking gray hair that came from I don't know where!).I've been so happy with the results, and had tons of compliments on my hair. Plus, I'm used to paying 3 times what Yvonne charged, and left with better results. Which means no more costly trips to San Francisco every 6 weeks to look great! The salon itself is a very no frills place, which is fine by me. Plus I didn't have to spend hours there, like I had to do in my S.F. Salon for the "experience". Let me start off by saying I'm not a girly girl and I don't keep up with my hair as often as I should. I find it ridiculous to pay $100+ for a cut and color. Randomly while down in Carson City (I live in South Lake Tahoe) I decided to pop into this salon just to take a peek. Nicole, the manager, was super friendly and greeted me at the door. I explained I hadn't cut my hair in 2 years and she didn't make me feel like crap for it lol. I decided to get a trim since I like my long hair and dye it a dark brown since my ends were turning orange because of the sun. Nicole did a phenomenal job! I told her I wanted a tiny trim and she actually listened. She didn't cut off 4 inches which is what usually happens when I ask for a trim. My hair looks fantastic and feels healthy again. And to top it off, it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I can't wait to go see her again. The other ladies in the salon were super friendly as well.
