The recent Eaton Fire dropped a raft of burning wood chips that pock-marked all of it with circles that melted the plastic. After finishing an ADU project we were ready to get our backyard back. I called Jesse to give us an estimate on a Wednesday, and he was able to schedule his professional team to come out 2 days later. By Saturday afternoon, our kids and dog were running around on our new artificial grass. Installation was scheduled so quickly after the estimate that I was worried I didn't have enough time to clean up the yard and move everything out of the way, but Jesse arranged for his team to help move our stuff and even haul away some trash left behind by the concrete guy who had poured our patio the week before! Installation was quick and professional, and the team took precautions to protect our week old concrete by putting down coverings to ensure the wheelbarrows and other equipment didn't scratch the stills curing concrete. I had been wanting synthetic grass for years...for aesthetic as well as environmental reasons. I contacted 4 businesses to get estimates. SmartGrass was easy to schedule an appointment with. Inga came to give to see what I wanted and to give me a quote. She made a great first impression by being prompt, communicated well, and seemed knowledgeable. I got a good vibe from her and after my 4th estimate was completed I contacted her and we negotiated a fair price for the job. We originally scheduled the install in two weeks which is right in line with what the other companies had mentioned since many residential as well as commercial properties are making the smart decision to go synthetic. I let her know that if anything opens up sooner to let me know since I couldn't wait to get it done. Sure enough I got a call the next week that I could have it done a week earlier and I leaped at that opening. The day of the install Inga and Anthony who was the lead of the 3 man install team showed up on time. Anthony and his crew worked hard in the heat and did a great job with all aspects of the preparation and installation. At the completion of the project my property was left in a very clean manner. I just had my Smart Turf installed yesterday. The short story is that they are a fantastic company with great staff. My daughter had her turf installed a couple of months ago and I was there to watch over while she was away at work. I was very impressed and ordered my own turf. Inga Iverson, my Project Manager, came out and did the initial measurements and provided a price quote. She did a through job of taking accurate measurements and providing sample so I could take my time to select what worked best for my house. In addition she gave me a couple of local addresses to see the blends I was interested. I selected the Gecko Blend. The day of the install Inga was there before her crew to take a final measurement and go over the details before they started. Rarely have I seen a project manager arrive before her team! She made sure everything got kicked off as planned. I was truly impressed by her professionalism. The crew of nine (!) showed up a few minutes later and went to right to work after their orientation. Fernando was the team lead. Whenever there was a question or concern he thought that may be of interest to me, he came by and discussed it. In addition, he gave me a couple of suggestions on the planter layout that worked really well. They capped the sprinkler system and disabled it so there wouldn't be leaks in the future. All in all, his team of nine worked until the project was complete (8 hours total). When done, they did an excellent job of cleaning and removing any and all debris, the place looked much better that when they arrived. Wish I could give them a 4 or 5, but our experience was a little bittersweet in the end. Let me explain: On Monday (6/6), I reached out for an estimate via Yelp after completing a survey, along with pics included. The owner reached out without a quote and requested a phone number instead. I played the game, as I still wanted an estimate. Someone else reached out later that day. We tried to schedule something, but with me being in the office typically from 8-5, it was tough to coordinate anything since Sundays they are off. She said she would check the schedule and get back to me. Thursday (6/9) at 6pm I finally received a response and they were requesting for a weekday morning - once again, a time I said I was typically unavailable for. I conceded, thinking, "I'll just have to take time from work to make this happen otherwise it's never going to get done". Already not a great start, but seeing their pics and the positive reviews, I kept faith in them. Christy and Kyle came over to take pics and talk us through the process. It is important to note that they are the sole reason I'm still giving plus points from the experience. They were absolutely AMAZING. Super friendly, talked us through everything and provided that 5 star Yelp experience we hadn't received thus far. They did mention we may need exterior direct access to the backyard which we don't have, unfortunately. Because we didn't, it would be up to the discretion of either the owner or Project Manager (I forgot who). Our outside wall, however is very short, so a small ladder would have probably done the trick and we were told that their crews have done harder jobs than this so, while the job may still be declined, most likely they would be still able to do this. We received an email the next day with the quote from the project manager and it was extremely competitive (another plus point). We were so happy and ready to say "yes let's please proceed". However, we received a second email a few minutes later that they are declining, however, due to not being able to directly access the backyard. I have a big hunch that it was ultimately declined as it was a smaller project and not worth the extra hassle, which, once again is disappointing. It's also a bit aggravating because we would have appreciated a heads up that direct access is a necessity. While it may be obvious for people who have done this before or who are in the business, but as first time homeowners it's not something we accounted for. Also the scheduling process was slow and we had to accommodate in our schedules, not the other way around. That said, when we look at our next property, with presumably a bigger yard, we will still consider them as an option because Christy and Kyle were phenomenal and their prices seem competitive. read more

I very seldom write reviews. However, the sheer delight I feel about my recent home project is exhilarating and I couldn't resist sharing my feelings. Out of control weeds, ever-rising water bills and the eye sore appearance of my neglected front yard, coerced me to choose a much needed upgrade. Can I give 6 stars?? My project was replacing about 2000sq ft of 11 year old turf in my backyard. Another company had installed it previously, and by now it was matted, flat, torn, seams showing, etc. Years of getting beat up by people and LOTS of dogs. Incredibly fast & efficient, meticulous, and detail oriented, they were a well oiled machine through all the many steps that you didn't even know a turf job entailed! I was beyond impressed with every single one of them, especially Rudy, the point man, who was friendly and clearly very experienced and communicative with me every step of the way on both days. He even caught a glare issue (the reflection of glass windows under the right conditions can melt any turf) and came up with an immediate solution to protect my beautiful new turf from singeing. He really saved things by noticing that and preventing a big problem. We had an issue towards the end of the job that I don't think was even totally caused by this team--but they tackled it without blinking, in 114 degree heat after 2 long days, like they were totally fresh. I'm sure they were wiped out after that but you'd never know it from their meticulous work. Absolutely incredible.
