I just purchased my first home and the only one I could afford needed a LOT of renovation. The price of the home was so low, I could actually afford it, but then I knew it was going to need tens of thousands in renovation just to make it livable. It had no walls, no floors, and the bathroom pretty much looked like someone was murdered in it. I was reaching out to contractors in Jacksonville and had a few come over and check things out. None of the contractors were able to give me what I needed - they all took a look at the house and wanted to play on how bad it looked aesthetically, even though I understood the bones were there - it just needed drywall and flooring. Most of the contractors who came over wanted to take my tiny, cheap house and put in an $80,000 kitchen (I didn't even pay $80,000 for the house). I ran across Smarter Remodeling on Google so gave them a call. If I had to describe them in 1 word - I would say "Professional". I told them what I needed, the guys came out and said okay - we can give you what you need. They were honest and didnt beat around the bush or play games. It met my budget and they werent trying to upsell me at every turn. I didnt have 1 issue with them "finding new problems". All of the things you worry about with contractors. The best thing was the turn around time. Once things were agreed on - it was a job where they had to re-plumb the whole house, fix electric, drywall the whole house, new HVAC, flooring etc. They got onsite the day we agreed on it.. they were onsite every single day following a very good project plan, and they banged out the work FAST. So fast I couldn't believe it. Every week the house looked completely different. These guys are super professional - if you arent in their way and you let them get in there and do the work, they will get in there and get it done. It isn't 1 guy operation, who says he has a crew, but really might not have a crew... and maybe they show up or maybe they dont show up. They will show up, everyday, on time - it will be all hands on deck for whatever job is being done that day. They have project managers to manage even the small jobs, to make sure they're efficient. So overall - they worked with my scope, my budget, they didnt play any games, they were very polite and professional, and they got a job that another contractor would have taken 5-6 months for (if not longer) - done in 2.5 months. For a job like this with so many different jobs to do, to have no negative issues with a contractor is pretty amazing. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who has any size job, and is worried about trustworthy contractors. They will be honest with you about what you can get for your budget and they're definitely not going to do a no show, or not complete the work. read more
