The tour and discovery day were amazing -- kind staff, great atmosphere, and a beautiful curriculum. Our child felt welcome and had a great time, so we enrolled her and even paid for camera access. Once the real days started, everything changed. From day one, no one greeted her. The teacher looked unhappy, took her without saying a word, and told me to leave. My child cried all day and no one comforted her. The response was: "Teachers have many kids and can't give attention to everyone." The following days were the same. No real curriculum, kids wandering around, teachers on their phones, my child crying with no support. "Quiet time" was supposed to be 12-2, but kids were forced to lie in the dark from 11:30am to 2:30pm. When I questioned it, they said the teacher was "in the restroom" - for 3 hours?! My child started having meltdowns and didn't want to go at all. On the cameras I saw kids crying on the floor, being ignored, fighting with no adult help, and teachers being rude or disengaged. The manager admitted she knows the staff is bad and can't find better ones. Teachers said they don't have time for a curriculum, and the manager said "it's Montessori, there is no real curriculum" -- even though one was proudly shown during the tour. One day we picked her up and they were all watching TV. Another time babies were left crying with no one responding -- I ended up calming one baby because I couldn't ignore the crying. One evening at home, my child started hitting her own hand. When I asked why, she said: "The lady does it." We don't have a babysitter and it's only me and my husband, so I have no idea who she was referring to. We took our child out after a couple of weeks. While the school has seen several administrative changes, including a very difficult period under a previous director, we stayed because of the incredible teaching staff. Unfortunately, the school recently lost Ms. Shelina, an 11-year veteran and the only fully Montessori-certified teacher on staff. To see a teacher of her caliber and dedication pushed out--seemingly due to administrative interference with her classroom expertise--is heartbreaking. Furthermore, the physical environment has declined; classrooms have become overcrowded with furniture, making it difficult for children to work independently as the Montessori method intends. Until there is stability in staffing and a return to true Montessori standards, I find it difficult to recommend this school to new families.

Miss Priscilla, Woodbridge Executive Director, gave me the tour at Woodbridge and there was no question afterwards on where I wanted my son to attend. I point this out because while I toured other schools that appeared to have good programs, I did not meet anyone like Miss Priscilla. She was kind, energetic, and made me feel like my son would be safe. Miss Becky is their Program Director and she is equally amazing. She was always there to help no matter what question I had. I ended up transferring my son to another school last month, so he can learn Spanish. It was not an easy decision to pull him out of Woodbridge. In addition to Miss Priscilla and Miss Becky, there are so many special teachers who made me feel like they really did care about my son. I could not have asked for a better school or experience for my family. I highly recommend Woodbridge!

Looking back on our experience, there is absolutely no question in my mind that the 2+ years we spent with St. Christopher's were the best for not only our boys (now 5- & 6-years old), but our whole family. From the smart, personable, and observant teachers, to the diverse (international!) feel of the community, to the bright & welcoming atmosphere created by Becky and the front desk staff, St. Christopher's truly raised the bar for our expectations of a school & faculty. Prior to finding St. Christopher's, our boys had attended both Montessori and non-Montessori schools in the White Rock Lake/Lake Highlands areas, and they've attended 3 other schools (1 Montessori, 1 public, and 1 private) in Dallas & Rowlett since. Being a part of so many different schools (not all of which were bad, by the way!) has taught us to appreciate the "small" things (hygiene!, front desk friendliness, student diversity, parental involvement) as well as the "big" things (safety/security, curriculum, communication, caring & nurturing atmosphere). St. Christopher's gave us all of those things and then some. As parents, we always felt welcome, and we rested assured knowing that our children were being exposed to cool neat things (languages, art, etc.) and ideas by people who cared about them & their respective development (our boys are pretty different from one another!). When my wife & I finally settled down in Rowlett (20 miles east of Dallas), our biggest regret was that we'd have to leave St. Christopher's - and even then, we made the daily 2-hour commute until we couldn't take it anymore. If you have the opportunity to send your kids here, I truly can't recommend it highly enough. It's the best, most nurturing and inspiring school we came across.
