Today, as we're packing our son off to college, we started reminiscing about this ridiculous…read moreexperience at the Montessori school here, one that stayed for a while, like sour milk. Lol. After several interviews and serious commitment conversations, our son was admitted to the school's pre-K. He was always a sweet boy and a bit bright, but no Einstein. The teachers here micro-managed my son's lunch, not allowing him to eat what he wanted in the lunchbox I packed until he finished his sandwich or whatever she decided was "first." My son was miserable at lunch. So I packed very small portions so he could eat a bit of everything. The teacher ended up writing me a nasty note and a warning about reporting me for malnutrition. Lol. We're a French family and eat VERY well. My son has alway has a small stomach and can only eat a bit, so needs to eat every few hours. Food is sacred to us, so yeah, that bone of contention was weird. After they sent home homemade toys that he accidentally locked with a key inside (something common to this "keyhole" toy) and making us buy a hex key and telling us HE was responsible for using said hex key to unlock and fix the toy (y'all, he was 4 years old), we were like, yep, they're crazy folks. Seemed like their go-to method was shame heaped on the child disguised as self-affirming autonomy (which it definitely wasn't). It was such a strange experience and totally opposite of what we thought the Montessori pedagogy was supposed to be like. Fortunately, it's been 13 years, so you might have a better, more educationally enlightened staff there. At the time, even though my husband and I both had PhDs, I still felt awful that they were so condescending; now, I'm just...screw that. We're fine. Son is an amazing musician and humanist with a full scholarship. Good luck to all who enter this school's doors! Hope their experience is better than ours!

It was a lengthy process in choosing her first school and we are very pleased to have chosen Primrose. The school and the staff have been playing a significant role in the development and growth of our daughter. Over time since she joined, Isha loved going to school. Apart from the outstanding curriculum, numerous other activities like Christmas celebrations, Easter Egg Hunt, the annual graduation ceremony, etc., have piqued Isha's interest and made her appreciate the time she is spending in school. It is to be noted that the staff put in a lot of time, effort and energy into the execution of the aforementioned events that they end up being really grand, rich and thoroughly memorable experiences for students and parents alike. The school has also ensured that they strictly meet the dietary requirements of each child. The staff also do a commendable job in communicating with us about the child's daily activities, upcoming events, payment reminders and accommodating many other requests we've made. It has been a breeze communicating with Ms. Corrine, especially, and she has always been prompt, quick and always helpful in her response. Our special mention goes to Ms. Alissa. Ever since Ms. Alissa became the class teacher for Pre-K-2, Isha wasn't just happy but was excited to go to school. We, as parents, could clearly see that Ms. Alissa genuinely cared about the kids in the class, made them all feel inclusive, provided individual care to each one of them and actually wanted them to be happy & comfortable. The very manner she greets the kids in the morning not only brightens their days but ours as well. As we drop off our daughter and drive away in the morning, we feel relieved and at peace knowing that Ms. Alissa is there to take care of our daughter. We also want to thank Ms. Margie (who in Isha's words is a very sweet teacher), Ms. Shilpi, Mr. Alan (whose high-fives instantly cheer up Isha in the morning), Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Heather.

It is such a happy, safe, loving environment where you can see how much the teachers and staff care about the kiddos. We have loved all of his teachers so much, but more importantly so does our kiddo! He gets the biggest grin going to them each morning, and there's no bigger comfort in the world than knowing you're leaving your kid in the best hands. He has also learned and developed so much during his time here. And as a parent, I've been impressed with just how much he's blossomed as he moves up to each new class.

However, our son was unfortunately placed into the care of people who either lack the experience to care for kids, or just don't enjoy doing it. Because of "behavioral issues" our son was told that "he is missing part of his brain" and referred to a quack pseudoscience professional in Addison, TX with the promise that said "doctor" would be able to help. Instead, we spent thousands of dollars on a scam -- at the recommendation of Gabimarie at Breckinridge. Ultimately, we were given a "trial period" of 3 weeks where out son was (finally!) removed from the care of his teacher and placed in another class. During his time in that class, we received no communication that he was acting out, and during every single observational attempt, I could see him focused on his work. At the end of the trial period, we were brought into the office and the owner, Gabimarie, and his new teachers tried to tell us that he was just too disruptive to the class to be kept at their school. We have decided it is best to not fight it and withdraw both children from their care and move onto a better school option. In the end, we loved the kids and parents at this school, but some of the staff and teachers are far more interested in enforcing petty dress code violations than they are attending to the kids needs. Other reviews on here have touched on things we also witnessed. While there are good things about the school that we really liked, the overall experience was so poor that I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. Your children's mental well-being is far too important than to roll the dice with certain staff. Go elsewhere -- the cheap price tag of this place is less indicative of value than it is "you get what you pay for."

Then there are schools where you take your children to not just learn ABC's and arithmetic, but you're fortunate enough to find teachers that truly love their profession and show the care and concern for each child. We have found that at Breckenridge Montessori. When trying to determine where to leave your child for several hours a day, it is important to find out if those that will be with your son or daughter from 8 - 4 (or longer) not only enjoy their profession but enjoy where they are working. The staff at Breckenridge Montessori has been there for years - YEARS - with some being there well over a decade. The love they have not only for where they work but for the children shows each day. I have found the staff very willing to listen to our needs, our questions and our concerns for our child, which is important because we had some unfortunate issues at other schools that did not have the professionalism and level of attention that Breckenridge Montessori has shown us. Our son has flourished - he is learning and advancing in his education exceptionally. As a kindergartener he is doing math and reading well beyond his years and has, most importantly, shown an insatiable appetite to learn - he asks questions and seeks answers, which I attribute to the school fostering in him the desire to learn not just as a ritualistic academic endeavor but as a curiosity about life around him. I do not make recommendations lightly because I think people read these and take them seriously. I will tell you I recommend Breckenridge Montessori without hesitation. Do your child a favor and consider this school for his or her education - in life and ABCs.

Everything you need to know about the school: the school has ongoing difficulties hiring qualified…read moreteachers, which is a critical concern. The math teacher and the IB coordinator resigned last March, and as of December, no permanent replacements have been appointed. The teacher currently covering these responsibilities reportedly has no prior IB experience. Assigning teachers without confirmed IB background to senior-level classes raises serious concerns about the quality and continuity of instruction. The chemistry teacher taught online for half a year because the school was unable to secure a visa. Another teacher was hired in the middle of the year; however, the school has not provided any information regarding her IB experience or certification. This lack of transparency makes it difficult for parents to assess whether IB standards are being met. The school's salary and benefits package appears to be uncompetitive within the local market, which may explain the hiring challenges. At the same time, the school continues to allocate funds to cosmetic updates such as repainting facilities and redesigning the website through third-party contractors. This raises reasonable questions about budget priorities. Overall, student academic outcomes do not appear to be the school's primary focus. Additionally, it is publicly known that the director's wife works in UX design; beyond this, the rationale for the recent urgency to redesign the school's website remains unclear.

To put it simply, we love Ivy!…read more For the past three years, we have enrolled our children at Ivy Montessori Academy on McCallum in Dallas. While there are many other similarly priced Montessori day cares in the area, Ivy's teachers and staff are what sets them apart from the rest. Their teachers are like second moms to our kids and pour so much love into their students every day. Ms. Anisa, the director, keeps us well informed and loves our kids as if they were her own. She keeps the school running smoothly, even through the many challenges COVID has presented. Ms. Julie, the infants' teacher, was such a wealth of information when our children were in her care. She was a great thought partner and helped us navigate through dropping naps, changing feeding schedules and introducing solids throughout the years we were in her class. Ms. Yazmin, Ms. Zarin, Ms. Sherry and Ms. Erica in the toddler rooms are so kind and loving with our kids. While in their classes, our kids' vocabulary skyrocketed and we saw them meet so many cognitive milestones with ease. Ms. Brenda has been THE BEST resource and partner in potty training. She makes each of her kids feel special and leads them through so many creative activities.

I was shocked at how many facilities had wait lists for infant care - up to 18 months??? It didn't even make any sense to me. Ivy Montessori was literally around the corner from our home. We went in for a tour, unscheduled. The facility was much smaller than the other places we'd visited! We met with Kathie, the director and she gave us a quick tour and showed us the Infant room. It's small - with about 8 cribs, a few saucers and bouncy chairs. But I noticed there was NO smell - it was so clean! Kathie told us that there was no wait list, but as soon as we'd made a decision to bring back the deposit to hold our spot. The best part was, it was very affordable ($895/mo), especially for the North Dallas area. On his first day, I had to come back up to the center mid-day with his tuition check. I walked in to a low lit, quiet day care. The entire center was quiet - everyone was down for a nap. My baby, who had not slept over 4 hours or even in a crib yet, was asleep in a crib, on his back, in a sleep sack. From that day on, he's slept in his crib and slept through the night. They were able to put him on a schedule when I was not able to. My son has been at Ivy since he was 7 weeks old. He's now 7 months old. We have even moved to another area - but I still drive him to Ivy every single day. He is thriving, and has a team of teachers there who love him. I will sing their praises every day and am so grateful we found them. I have total peace of mind when I drop him off every morning, and I know we will keep him here until he starts Kindergarten.
