So about two weeks ago I had a phone interview with a receptionist from their PG office at 8201 Corporate Dr Ste 550, Hyattsville, MD 20785. I was interested in working for them at their Potomac, MD location I believe which was close by to my home so easy transportation to and from. The job posting on Indeed said they needed a security officer to work Monday through Friday 7am to 3pm. Was interested in this job cause I wanted to bring in even more money for my family as myself and woman are tying the knot next year. The receptionist was nice over the phone. Asked me if I was willing to work 7-3, if I had a guard card, verifying my previous places of employment with security companies, asked me about a time I went above and beyond to help someone, what security means to me, why was I interested in working for them, stuff like that. She scheduled me for an interview for a Monday so it was in like three days. I was given an email with address and directions but also a picture diagram of what to wear and not to wear. The dress attire called for being in a business suit with dress shoes, business tie, the whole nine yards. My woman and I went out and got me a really great suit and dress shoes that weekend. I shaved my head, cleaned up my face and was looking very fly. I go into this interview and noticed off the break at least 3-4 people that didn't meet the dress code for the interview and felt pretty confident off the break. Also had my updated resume in hand and felt very confident? Then I meet Jeremy M. Johnson for the official, official interview. I don't know what it was but as soon as I shook this man's hand I felt that I wasn't going to get the job. His body language was kind of nonchalant and very passive like looking beyond me. I go in the office for this interview and the man literally asked me the same questions the receptionist asked me over the phone. Only thing new that was added was where do I see myself in five years. Not once did this man ask me about my previous security experience with other companies I worked for and why I ended up leaving some of them, references, etc. I said to him that if I were offered the position I would need at least a week notice to properly give my current employer a heads up. I was very candid in telling him that if my current employer provided more opportunities in moving up and if the pay was slightly better I'd gladly go ahead and stay as it is a tight family and very white collar. Been with them for almost ten years now. Jeremy tells me that all he's doing is passing the info along to the hiring manager and that if I was selected I'd come in for another interview. Now keep in mind the receptionist told me to bring my social, guard card, state I.D card, diploma, etc. My past experience with security companies when they ask you to bring all this they trying to get you started ASAP, especially when you have a active guard card. I had all this info with me and Jeremy tells me it was necessary at that time because they just say that as a formality over the phone and such. Told my girl about the interview and how that guy gave me bad vibes, well not even three days later and I get a email from them saying they were going in a different direction. I speak for folks when I say we don't need our time wasted like that. Ways to improve is if you're going to literally ask the same questions like the receptionist did over the phone then have the interview be conducted face to face via Skype. Most employees are operating like this now. Also, whatever you are seeking be it someone that can work overtime, additional shifts, be a floater, etc, then state that in your job posting that way you can really weed out better. Don't ask people to bring all that sensitive material when you know for a fact you're not even going to collect it in that visit. Most importantly be more transparent. If you know what that site needs and based on whatever that interviewee is providing won't really help that site and help the interviewee ultimately get hired then say so. Nothing wrong saying hey we appreciate your interest but to be honest if you don't wanna work overtime it can be a bit tricky because etc, etc. We will keep your info handy and if anything changes we'll touch base with you again. I can't speak of working for this company but the way upper management / H.R handled the interview process? Yeah, a complete joke.
