This review has been long overdo. Eric was an absolute pleasure to work with. Back in June, my family was looking to sell our house in Ontario and purchase another one, but if we were going to do that, we would have to drastically change the outside appeal of our front and back yards. We had basically left our plants to die, and everything was in bad shape. I had gotten quotes from a few other companies, and then Eric came through. Not only did he beat the competitors' prices, but he was able to do it in a timely manner. He gave us a timeline, and stuck to that timeline. Not only that, one of his guys was able to do some electrical work for me. As far as the landscaping, Eric knew exactly what we were looking for, as we found him through our realtor. He was able to give us advice as to what would look good to possible buyers and when he was done, the yards looked brand spanking new. Eric was completely professional throughout the process, easy to communicate with, and we absolutely loved the final product. Because of his efforts, we were able to sell our house with no problems at all. We hope to use Eric's services in the future at our new house. I hired Smart Landscaping owned by Eric to install sprinklers in my backyard. He started his initial dig to the left (see enclosed photo) where you can see exposed pvc, and worked his way to the right before locating the main line approximately 5-6 feet away. As you can see in the enclosed photo, the area is less than 6x6. The problem from my perspective is that he did not bring any help and became frustrated (lazy also) when he couldn't locate the main line after digging initially for less than 1 hour. Our issue arose when he decided to pass off the extra expense of having a to hire someone with a jackhammer to me, by attempting to amend our initial contract. I refused to allow him to do so, and he simply became upset, condescending and unprofessional in every way imaginable. He then refused to finish the project packed up his things and left with my $400.00 cash down payment. Not only did Eric take my money and not finish the job, but he also left uncapped pvc pipe.....which he did eventually return to complete, but not the open trenches which can be partially seen in the photo. The worst part of this entire experience is that when he did actually return to cap the lines, he brought the actual POLICE to watch. What ever you do don't hire this guy. I didn't realize when I hired Eric that he is not only unprofessional (had to borrow my shovel, does not own a jackhammer and does not have a contractors license), but also lazy and extremely dishonest. Smart Landscaping - a hole in the ground where a pipe is installed - Landscaping Near Me

I requested about 10 different estimates and Eric was somewhere in the middle. We decided to go with him because he was a nice guy, and he seemed willing to work with us. You can make your own judgments, but here are a few examples of some issues that we had: 1. When Eric had completed the project, he was unable to get the sprinkler timer to work. He spent hours trying to fix it, but eventually said that he couldn't do it and would give us $50 back. I had to find someone down the street who was working on a neighbor's yard to fix it. This guy diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes, spent an hour and a half and fixed the problem for $200. When I told Eric, he said that I would have to pay for it because it didn't fall under his responsibility! I always thought that the sprinkler timer was a landscaper's responsibility, especially if he's the one completing this project. 2. I had initially wanted all of our valves connected to the main timer in the garage. Eric stated, however, that the ones on the left side of our house would need to be placed on a solar valve. When I asked if it'd be possible to put it on the same main timer, he said he'd have to either run a line around the garage and through the vent, or he would have to drill a hole in the wall to the garage. Recently, I've had two gardeners come by to give me a quote on cutting the grass, and they both explained how they would have run the valves to the main line without drilling holes in the wall and without having an exposed wire. So it would have been possible, but Eric didn't know how to do it. 3. I've had several other landscapers come by for different reasons, and all of them said that the irrigation should have been installed first, and then the plants/trees planted after. For some reason, Eric did it the opposite way. That's created issues now with improper irrigation (see below). 4. The issues now encompass problems with our grass and some plants. There are grass areas that are drying out and some plants have died. When I contacted Eric to see if he could come fix the irrigation, he told me to throw some patch on the grass and if that didn't work, to call the sod company to fix it. This was entirely different from Eric's promise at the start of his project that he would come back for up to a year to fix any issues with the landscaping. read more

I was looking for someone helpful and knowledgable about fruit trees and irrigation to get my orchard dialed in. I called ERIC and within a couple days he was at my house assessing the situation. He was quick to diagnose the problem I was having and offered to come the following day with 9 new fruit trees (pear, apple, orange, lime, grapefruit, plumb, etc). He also tilled and fertilized my existing avocado, peach, and plumb trees and helped adjust the water timing on the various areas to get the appropriate amount and ran new irrigation lines. He removed a pestering fig tree and back filled with lantana. He and his crew were professional and efficient. I hope to have him back for other projects in the future. read more

Things were fine at first. I will also note that my roommates are not the best and failed to clean up after dogs which caused tension. Few issues I had with their lawn mowing/cleaning service. 1. They would show up any time of the day with very little notification prior. We have dogs so they must be put away prior to their arrival which I requested numerous times to give me a hour so I can ensure dogs are away whether I am at the house or not. This caused us to not have the backyard serviced on many occasions but they would still charge me the full rate as they did both front/back. I spoke to Eric regarding this and he worked with me which helped. 2. They trimmed our small trees but ultimately have left the trimmings for months now. Eric claims our trash is always full which is certainly not true. He then never mentioned a cost for this to be done and threw it back in my face at the end of our relationship that he did this for free. 3. We are moving out of our rental and needed the above to be fully cleaned out and do our final service. I asked about reseeding which was out of our budget and then requested to just do a final service to clean up. At this point Eric said he will no longer service us for the reasons above even though if we had the budget to do the reseeding, he would have done it. Ultimately I am giving this 1 star out of frustration of how Eric handled our last conversation and I will still need to find someone to clean the mess they left. read more

PHENOMENAL service, installation, and experience. Eric came out to my property and took the time to explain all the details. He went over the diff types of sod and the quality, best times to install everything. He showed up on time and finished on time. He cleaned up after the job was done. My woman and I are super pleased with the results. I was busy out of town and when things popped up he called me gave me my options and took care of it. He had to make a few last minute modifications with my timer. He even went above and beyond when my girlfriend had an issue with the toilet he went inside and fixed that too! how crazy is that?? So I reached out to Eric a few weeks ago at Smart Landscaping and he came out and gave me a quote for removing about 5 trees 1 huge cactus and a large shrub as well as cleaning the yard and removal of all trash from my front and backyard. I thought the job would take about two weeks to be completed maybe more considering the amount of work he was going to be doing and the mess my yard was... well it to took him and his worker a Day and a half to complete the job. I was extremely happy with the results and very pleased with their service... I will definitely be using them for future projects and I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for extreme backyard make overs or a quick clean up. I wanted to leave a good review but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Eric is nice but perhaps too busy or things are not managed well. I initially called and was told someone would come by to take a look that day. Later that turned into someone coming another week to do the work. That day came and no work was done, but evaluated the situation. Finally was able to make an appt to have the work done. Called the day before just to confirm with no answer. They came exactly the time they said they would, at dark thirty in the morning, and the job was done in six hours by two of the hardest working men I have ever come across. I had a leaking sprinkler line. Eric gave me an estimate to find the leak and repair the line. I have a lot of experience working on sprinkler systems but Eric was able to find the problem alot faster than I could have. He ended up having to install a whole new sprinkler line, instead of just patching a leaking pipe, and he was nice enough to honor the original estimate. Called Saturday 4/7/18 for a quote, spoke to Erick & sent pictures to a number given...no response. Called again Monday 4/9, sent pictures again to Erick this time...still no response. Erick blamed their new help (scheduling person) but there's no excuse for poor management & poor customer service. Sounds like growing pains of a business taking off, needs to be addresses since a couple potential customers are going elsewhere.
