I have used this bank for 30 years. (It used to be first educators). They have started charging monthly maintenance fees. I kept a high balance in my account and they changed the type of account without my consent. But they are charging a monthly fee no matter what your balance. I don't think I can even fit how many things are wrong with Smart financial into this review. First off they do not update their debit cards to reflect recent changes in technology. They had the same outdated and fragile card for the past ten years. They only recently in the last four days rolled out a new card that is made out of the same garbage plastic material. In addition to this, all the features were not available when it launched you couldn't use the contactless payment for the first 24-48 hours it went live. They also decline payments due to fraudulent activity without notifying you, and it seems to be random. Tried to get gas and they declined it with no call. It declined three times in a day and then they call asking if someone else is making charges on my card five minutes from my house. They also are only open till 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Wednesday. How on Earth is that ok? What happens if you get out of class and go try to get gas and it declines. You are stranded there because they all already left and can't do anything. Also you better put your debit card in a titanium case, because if it even bends ever so slightly at all, you will chip issues and swipe issues until you can get a new one. I would not recommend this bank to anyone. It is so bad that the only positive reviews are from people who work there or are friends with people who work there. No one and I mean no one who I've spoken to who is an actual patron of the bank has ever said anything good about this bank. Please never EVER bank here under any circumstances. read more

When I first moved my account to Smart CU, staff was great. RECENTLY I think this CU has forgotten what customer service means. Called concerning an issue on Monday, their phone message said long wait of over 10 minutes. After holding 48.5 minutes I was cut off. Called back approved 1:50 pm and requested a call back. It's been 48 hours and I am still waiting. Decided to visit in person. Made the 20 minute drive only to be told they are only seeing customers by appointment which has to be scheduled on line. They seem to be very inefficient. read more

I have no problem with this Credit Union EXCEPT when I am waited on by Cynthia. This woman has been here for years and yet she seems to get slower each time I see her. I'll admit, when I enter the bank or use the drive thru and I see her face, I cringe. I just know I am going to be there much longer than need be. I don't know why but she moves at the same pace as a sloth. No, maybe a sloth is faster. All I do know is it took her 27 minutes to deposit a check and some cash into my account. I can't for the life of me figure out what was so difficult. Is this not something she does every day all day? Is she sleepwalking? Hello??? Anybody home???? smh read more

Terrible service! Waited 20 minutes to be serviced. They knew my dogs were waiting in the car. 2 people in offices without customers...after I told a teller that I was in a hurry because my dogs were in the car and I wad headed out of town, she went into one of the offices without a customer to chat it up with that rep. When I was FINALLY helped, the rep told me I needed to calm down and treat him with respect! He continued to patronize me, then just laid the new card down on the desk when he walked back in. I've been banking here for a while and it's hit or miss on speed in the drive thru versus the tellers inside. Sometimes I feel I get better service when I go Inside the bank. The middle (newer) atm hardly works. It's a bank. Nothing special that sets it apart from other banks. read more

I requested to have a payment for a loan skipped for the month of December. Instead they used a different loan and skipped January. They did this act without my permission. Its unfortunate with all the technology they cannot fix the errors they have created on their part. They need to also waive that $25 since I didn't request that. read more

Smart Financial Credit Union how is it that your fraud department shuts off a debit card without calling the member!!!!! Your decision to do so has put me and my family in a real predicament 5 days before Thanksgiving. This is the most ridiculous process I have ever heard of! When I asked for the new card to be expedited, I was told that you don't offer this service. So now I have no way to pay my bills or purchase Thanksgiving dinner for my family!!!!! Absolutely insane!!!! Thanks for ruining the holidays. I am so upset that you have a process to turn off someone's debit card without a phone call. I was told a replacement card was mailed on 11/6/2020 but because nobody called me they didn't know that I just moved and the post office isn't forwarding my mail as they should. Yes, its my fault for not updating my address but this is why they must call members to even just confirm the freakin address. I am just so beyond screwed at this point. They are a smaller "hometown" kind of bank. We get helped immediately when we need anything inside the bank. Whenever we meet with an employee to discuss anything, they are kind and helpful. On the phone, they are even helpful. We had our other account at WF and gladly left and went to SF. read more

I am so disappointed in the decline in service at Smart Financial in Conroe and the branch on Rayford Road. Since the flooding caused by Harvey, I have only been going to the Conroe branch. The drive through is good, it's the efficiency inside that's failing. For 3 months I have been trying to set up an automatic withdrawal from my IRA. I drive in, they assure me it's taken care of, then it's not. I drive in again, they assure me it's taken care of and then it's not. This is the third month, and once again the withdrawal hasn't gone through. I am awaiting a callback to try one more time to get this taken care of. I will probably have to drive in again to make a withdrawal since I can't afford to go another month without it. If so, I'm also going to be looking for a new bank. read more
