We entered into the Appraisal process with our insurer in April of 2023. When Wayne was hired as our independent appraiser, most of the rebuild had already been completed. The required mitigation and reconstruction back to original specification condition was very complicated due to the structure originally serving as an office building before it was repurposed to luxury condominiums in 2020. Restoration work was well under way when Wayne was hired. Hiring an appraiser at this stage of the process is difficult for any appraiser. But Wayne spent countless hours onsite understanding the scope of the damage, mitigation and rebuild parameters. In addition, his knowledge of the appraisal process and required documentation was impressive. While maintaining complete independence, he guided us throughout the entire process. His effort resulted in an award that provided the association the needed money to restore and repair our homes to exactly the way they existed prior to the damage. Without Wayne's expertise and knowledge, we would have received less than 1/2 of the money from our insurer necessary to make the repairs. We are forever grateful for his hard work and no nonsense approach. However, at the time, this representative was not licensed in VA so he referred us to another adjuster. I do not know if Paid Fairly has a VA license now; but, if you decide to use Billie, I recommend you ask if Paid Fairly will be the team working on your claim. If you are referred to Shorter Settlements, DO NOT USE THEM. Kharee was very unhelpful and unresponsive. We did not get the damages we needed covered. He told us back in September that our claim was under appeal and we haven't heard from him since October. We've tried phone, text, and email and no response. We have been in touch with our insurance company and they have no record of an appeal. We are going to research to see if we can still recoup any of the cost but we will absolutely not be working with Shorter Settlements or Paid Fairly. To be fair, Paid Fairly has been responsive, they just aren't handling our claim. They did, however, refer us to Shorter.

I called the 800 number on Nov. 3 and it was clear that it wasn't an office but some manner of call service that plugged me in with another individual. The gentleman was pleasant enough and said that a tech would call me before EOD. I received a TEXT from Abi, not a call, at 6:08 pm. I never had someone text me instructions about a potential home visit before but, as I'm desperate for repairs, I went with it despite my reluctance. I asked in the text to have the tech please share their license and credentials. I don't know these people. I just needed to know who I'm letting into my home. I received a call from a gentleman I assumed to be the owner or operator who took umbrage at me asking for the credentials of the tech, and proceeded to call it "weird" (that is the word he used) that I'd ask since, and I quote, "all we're doing is an estimate." I don't care if you were building the Ark of the Covenant divined by God himself, I am not letting someone in my home without knowing fully who they are. Call it paranoia, call it weird as that person did, but they can take that attitude and go the other way. I'll find someone else.
