Words on the page getting a little fuzzy? Magnifying the document size on your computer screen?…read moreGetting a headache from staring at the computer too long? Chances are it's probably time for an eye test. What you should NOT do at this stage is make an appointment at OPSM Garden City. As a glasses and contact lens wearer for fifteen years, I've been bitterly disappointed with the price and service at OPSM. Firstly, they put a lot of pressure on you to purchase your glasses or contacts from them directly after your eye check up. Now, under Medicare, we are entitled to a free check up once a year with an optometrist. It annoys me the way OPSM optometrists takes my prescription away directly after the check-up and hands it over to their sales assistant who immediately organises my glasses or contact order. If I went to a doctor surgery which was connected to a pharmacy, the doctor would not write a script and then hand it over directly to the pharmacist for dispensing. I would normally be given a choice as to where I want to pick up my script. The last time I had my eye check up, I asked OPSM if I could have my script back. They handed it back to me and I took it away to shop around. I found much cheaper contact lenses both online and at other shops (specsavers were pretty cheap in my specific case although this will vary depending on your prescription). I wouldn't have minded so much if the price difference was only 10 -20% cheaper but I found that my prescription was available cheaper by around $50. In addition, since I started shopping round, I found out that OPSM has been charging a fee to fit my contact lenses even though I found two other optometrists in the same area who does not charge for this five minute service. So four eye friends everywhere- be warned. Don't go to OPSM unless you want to burn through your private health fund eye cover in one visit.
