You might get lucky and end up in a class where the teacher sets higher expectations(I heard from my child there is only one class), but otherwise, it's hard to justify staying that long just for academics. If academic progress isn't your main concern, it could still be fine. Overall, this school may is not the best fit for fast learners. Teachers focus on keeping the class balanced, which often means slowing down advanced students to match the majority's pace.

The student-to-teacher ratio is wonderful (23 students and three teachers). The school administration and teachers proactively communicate. The lead teacher in Dogwood is an absolute blessing. She has been very attentive to our daughter's anxiety, and our daughter has blossomed in this classroom. The school celebrates many cultural holidays, and our whole family has been enjoying the community events hosted by parent volunteers. The school sends visibly sick children home, as they should (not our experience with previous schools). We are thankful for fewer sick days because of this. Our only feedback would be to increase recess/outdoor time and to add additional greenery to the outdoor areas.

One of my children has sensory needs and the structure and amazing teachers really helped her work through a lot of hurdles. She graduated with confidence personally and educationally for the next steps ahead. My other child loves being a part of the group and his favorite time of day is "circle time" where the children explore topics such as the sound of the week building on reading skills and socially sharing about different items from their homes. It's a pretty special place and we would highly recommend. For an extended morning, lunch bunch is a great way to make the session 1 hour longer and the kids get to eat together and play inside/outside after school.

We came from a Montessori school in a different city that had outside play before and after and spending the whole session in the classroom is not an issue at all. There's a park outside where people often meet after class and lunch bunch available for and extended hour. Plenty of social emotional learning happens in the classroom through shared activities. If you're looking for a real preschool experience for your child we would recommend Edmonds Montessori in a heartbeat.

We enrolled our youngest (of three) at Rainbow after a very poor experience with a her former school and are beyond glad we did so. Rainbow does so many "things" correctly. 1. They say what they will do, and they do it. Plus so much more. Our daughter came home knowing the essentials: courtesy, kindness, respect, numbers, letters, and counting. Shockingly, she also came home at the end of the year able to read, how to recognize 20+ flags, and to recognize and communicate with a few ASL and German phrases. 2. She was loved and respected as an individual and a community member. The teachers love their students. They also show students love through boundaries and self responsibility -something that transferred to my kiddo's behavior at home. 3. Rainbow is the best "bang for your buck". My daughter is going into Kindergarten better prepared than her sisters who were in full day preschool/PreK programs that were 5 days/week. 4. They encourage and guide students but never force them to "do" academic work if a child is t ready both emotionally or cognitively. They encourage kids to play and try new activities. We've had a great experience with Main Street Kids! Our daughter has been going there since she was…read morefour months old and the infant room staff especially, have been wonderful with her. She's transitioning to the one's room now and that has been a smooth and easy process so far. The staff are friendly, caring, and treat the kids like their own. It's definitely a little chaotic at times with so many kids running around, but I like knowing that it means that kids get to be, well, kids. The location can't be beat right in downtown Edmonds, and there's a huge play area outside for the kids to run around. We really love the staff and if/when we have another baby, we won't hesitate to have them here too. We looked at other daycare's in the area (got on every list in town early in our pregnancy since that's how it goes these days), and for the price and care we get, Main Street made the most sense for us, and we're really happy with our choice. As an added bonus, this daycare is in the Anderson Center in downtown Edmonds, so when the kids are old enough, they can take classes (soccer, dance, martial arts, etc.) and the instructors come get them from class and then return them a couple hours later, so there's no additional transportation needed from parents or a school bus. I know everyone's experience is different, but we've really enjoyed MSK and can't say enough good things about them!
