When I first set out to hire a painter to fix an adhesion problem that we had in our living room, dining room and kitchen area I got quotes from several companies. What stood out to me about Steven from SLW was that he was young, running a business and went into detail with his Sherwin Williams rep about what products they'd use on my house. I felt it was very thorough and had confidence that we were hiring someone who was going to over perform in every category. I got it a bit wrong. Communication was good, every time I had a question or concern (and there were quite a few along the way) he assured me to trust the process. We needed drywall skim coating and then paint done so it was a process. The prep work could've been better. My baseboards were already done but because they didn't get covered up there was drywall slung on them, they either wiped it down hard or sanded it off which scuffed up the finish. He called me on Monday and told me I needed to come over and take a look as he was done with the project (2 days before he initially said) I had my sister in law go take a look and the finish details were awful. Lines weren't straight, joint compound / sanding work was lumpy in places and caulking around my ceiling and vent hood just weren't gonna cut it. I was out of town and told him I needed to see the work myself before we could continue, he kept pushing as to when I'd be back in town to do another final walk thru. While going through our walk through with him about things we wanted fixed, we were "scoffed" at by Steven, as if what we were asking for was too much. One wall had different sheen patterns that could be seen and needed to be re sanded and repainted. Another issue was overspray from the ceiling down onto the first foot of the wall, you could see the slight texture (and it was slight but noticeable if you know what to look for) around the perimeter of our entire room. My husband asked that be taken care of, Steven stated some ROC code about not being able to see things 5 ft from the wall being acceptable which said a lot. Him and one of his guys stayed the rest of that day to finish up those details. Those are more precise details, here's the overall takeaway: overall, 80%
of the drywall and painting was good (level 4) but around the bottom and near our baseboards didn't get the same treatment, jc was lumpy and paint detail was lacking. I didn't have him fix the small details near my custom cabinets and vent hood because I felt if they couldn't get it right the first time I'm too picky to let them fumble it again. I'll post pics here so that you can make the decision for yourself. All in all decent work, as a business there are things they could do differently and if small details aren't important to you then this might be your guy. If Steven would get written permission to use your home on his Instagram videos and greatly improve their detail/finish work, this would overall be a company I recommend. Until then, it leaves some things to be desired. PS take my home off your Instagram profile SLW read more
