I visited the group on Wednesday, October 16, for my six-month cleaning, and Dr. Michael Wakily was assigned to do my checkup. When he entered the exam room, he did not introduce himself; however, trying to bypass that oversight on his part, I joked that he came highly recommended as my regular Dentist left the group. Dr. Wakily examined my mouth and found three cavities. I asked if it was possible to have the three cavities repaired the same day, which he affirmed could be done as it would only take 30 to 40 minutes. He also indicated he would forward the information to the front desk, after which he left the exam room. While in the exam chair, a lady approached me and presented paperwork indicating the amount covered by my insurance and my out-of-pocket cost to repair the three cavities. I explained to the individual that I had overpaid on at least two prior occasions when immediately paying out-of-pocket costs calculated by Smilist East Islip, as confirmed by the Explanation of Benefit (EOB) that I receive a few weeks after every procedure. I further explained that in none of these instances, I was reimbursed by Smilist. On that end, I asked the individual if they could bill me when they ascertained the amount I would owe, as I had no problem paying it. The individual explained she would check with the doctor (Dr. Wakily) and get back to me. No more than two minutes later, the individual returned to the exam room and explained that I would have to wait until the bill was submitted to the insurance company, at which time I would know my exact out-of-pocket cost, which would be a few weeks. Here's the kicker: The individual said Dr. Wakily would only do the procedure after my out-of-pocket cost was determined. My problem with Smilist East Islip is that they seemed overly concerned about money, I/O the patient. No one truly heard me regarding my overpayment scenario. I have always paid for my out-of-pocket costs without incident. Instead of taking the time to understand my situation as a patient, they preferred not to do the procedure, even after it was affirmed that it could be done the same day. I have worked in corporate America for over thirty years, and every time I had a conversation with one of my clients (large and small), they would always tell me that customer service is more important than costs. Smilist East Islip needs to be reminded of that critical fact! Smilist East Islip lost a long-standing, good-paying customer today!

I've easily had 10+ root canals and I can't even count the additional work. A few issues are even from poor work done by other dentists since I was a child. I was terrified of dentists. Dr Bob has been gentle and patient and always concerned with me being comfortable. He's worked with me when I didn't have dental insurance, more concerned with dental health problems getting worse if I waited until I had insurance coverage. He puts his patients first. I can't praise him and his office enough. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have 2 locations and I've had great experiences in both offices. They've become family! Disregard other reviews seriously, I know nightmare dentists.

HOWEVER, that all changed the day my teenage daughter was assaulted at the Islip train station & had a front tooth knocked out not long after having her braces removed. I was going through a separation & couldn't afford an implant and the dentist looked at me with his beautiful daughter standing next to him and said this is my daughter and if I couldn't afford implants this is what I would do so I took him at his word and boy was I sorry I did! My daughter's beautiful smile was worse when we left than when we walked in. The craftsmanship was awful and I was so sadd for her! Do yourself a favor. Go to great expressions or better yet save for implants but this was a very disheartening situation and I wouldn't take my dog there now!!

He then says the crown is crooked and he starts to panic for about 3 to 4 minutes and then says to the assistant to get him the pneumatic air bolt .He then starts using this air tool which ejects a metal bolt in and out with quite some force to try an get the crown back off so then the worst happens he snapped off my tooth at the gum line and says he has to extract this tooth right now .I was in shock. So he fumbles his way through the extraction and 5 minutes of wiggling he finally gets it .He didn't offer me any compensation for his mistake. He should have paid for an implant at least then I have to go suffer through the process as well. it's obvious this guy has no integrity and only cares about the money. I would have drilled away the crown and sent for a newly made crown but that didn't occur to him he was in a rush after all he overbooks and he is to greedy to pay for the crown. He is at fault don't trust this guy with a single cavity especially not a crown although I do believe he learned from his mistake he made with my crown. An accredited dental school should have taught this man this .
