I was disappointed. I thought with their orthotic experience, I would get a better fit than at the usual running store where I buy shoes. Typically, a store will look at your feet, watch you walk, ask a few questions such as whether you're looking more for light and fast or long miles and cushioned, chat about the amount of drop etc. This store just handed me a bunch of shoes to try on with no comments on my gait in the shoe etc. Most stores will have you run on their treadmill to see how they feel. SLO Motion had me just try to run up and down their 20 foot aisle. They even argued with me when I said a couple of pairs didn't feel right. I'm definitely not coming back. read more

Dr Byrne referred me here for an orthotic insole. I was on the fence and skeptical given some of the reviews and figured I could just find the orthotic on Amazon. However given how much I like Dr Byrne I took a chance. Boy am I glad I did. Charla was my fit specialist and she was attentive, helpful and I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. Plus I got a great deal (my luck day they had my size a style I liked on clearance for 1/2 off) on two pair of athletic shoes that support my feet and work nicely with my orthotics. I live in San Jose and wanted to drive down to get precise measurements for the insoles I wanted. But alas COVID19 shelter in place is a thing and online order is the only option. I ordered the capsulitis insoles that has the 2nd toe cutout to relieve pressure off of my 2nd right toe. And ordered a regular met bar + metatarsalgia padding for the left one that is currently not in pain. The store straight up called me to verify and explain what's going on so Im thankful for that Somehow, even without an in person fitment, the custom insoles fit me! Finally got some relief of my 2nd toe for the first time since my injury Thank you facebook ad! I'm a male runner that have had a lot of ball of feet pain and second toe capsulitis I've been dealing with for 5 years now. Have tried so many different things and nothing ever gives me much relief where I can run. I purchased the Slomotion orthotics for the second toe capsulitis and they were simply awful to run in. Way to heavy for running, they weigh as much as my running shoes. Hopefully the Slomotion orthotics help some runners but sure did not me. It was an ok experience. The lady was nice enough. Not a wide selection of shoes. They mostly deal with people from the hospital I think that need help with their feet. I did not want her to put my shoes on for me and she was confused about it but I just said no it's cool I can put the shoes on myself :). I ended up with a new pair of hokas. He did gait testing, inspected my feet, actually measured my foot, fit me for orthotics that helped me in ways that relieved pain I have had in my foot for years. He showed me a new way to lace my shoes to prevent heel slipping. Showed me that the colors they put on shoes isn't just for show, but actually has a meaning.. mind blown. Martin helped fit my inserts. He explains explained everything to me. I took the treadmill test and was fitted for awesome inserts. Dr. BYRNE apt was super fast while this appointment was slower and more informative. Sad when the Doctor's bedside manner doesn't match as a shoe store worker. Would recommend getting fitted here. Worst medical experience ever. The treatment at San Luis Podiatry Group always begins with a sale at SLO Motion Shoes. That is the go-to fix for the group. No surprising since there is co-ownership between the group and the store. Be aware not all orthotics are covered by insurance. My orthotics fell apart in a week. See the bottom of the letter where they refund for the low quality orthotics. For the record, the medical group cannot take constructive criticism about its staff or scheduling. You will be dropped. I ordered orthotics for capsulitis online, i got them really quick. I tried them and they were super uncomfortable, which is to be expected with orthotics at first. It was just more than the norm and was painful in spots I didn't expect to hurt. I tried to return them because I decided they were not going to work out for me. I spoke with a man, (can't remember his name) really laid back and easy going fella. I was informed I could return them because they are basically customized orthotics. The gentleman spoke with me, heard my concerns and what I had been dealing with and recommended I give them another try when my feet were not so sensitive. I did just that and although my issue is not completely resolved yet, I am happy to report I've seen A LOT of improvement, less pain and inflammation, and I can be much more on my feet than previously. I came in right before they were closing and they had no problem staying open late just for me. They did not rush me they did not pressure me. I took time off work to check out the shoe of the month. Hiking shoe, water proof-just what I wanted, just what I was looking for-and to try on in person -perfect! I was Excited to try it out!! When I arrived I was told oh, the shoe of the month?? They did not have my size and unable to get more for at least a couple of months as companies changed. Wow, really disappointing. Emails go out with shoe of the month, why not let us know it is not available?? One woman helpfully offered a discount on another shoe (discontinued shoe?) but that was not what I was looking for. The second, while she brought out a shoe for me to try, simply bummed me out. I just did not feel any happiness, any pleasure in her helping me. Dr Byrne and the SLO Motion shoe staff are amazing. I am a runner and RN. I have been running since high school. I have never had an injury until I turned 50. I have a neuroma that has bothered me for years, but never kept me from my daily runs or working 12 hour shifts. I had a skiing injury on the opposite knee of the foot neuroma....and then my neuroma pain went from 2-10. I could hardly work 2 hours without having to change shoes and try to rub the pain away while working. Dr Byrne got me right in. He then sent me to the shoe part of his practice. The staff at SM shoes have helped me so much. Stephanie, Charla and Greg are so knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Neuromas can be hard to make better. The staff worked with me as many as 2 hours at a time, trying different shoes, inserts etc. I think I went in 3 different times within 2 weeks. They made adjustments for me, suggestions and offered emotional support too. They never sold me anything extra. Greg told me to stop buying stuff and lets make adjustments to what you have. You just don't get service like that anymore. I am currently having very little to no pain, but I know if I do have more pain, I feel comfortable going back in to ask for help. Thanks so much! I have looked for shoe inserts and had some made by doctors all at great expense. SLO Motion Shoes was the first to address my problem and I feel their price and quality as well as advice was worth it. The inserts were 20% of the price I would pay a doctor. Whoever it was that fitted me was not particularly attentive. He didn't spend much time trying to understand my shoe needs, both in fit and fashion. I've got very difficult feet and my shoes have to be extremely supportive. So I usually wear only one pair for 90% of the time, which means I want them to look a certain way. Not fancy, but reasonable and, as I told him, not tennis shoes. My salesperson didn't really work to accommodate any of that. Fortunately we did find something that fit well enough, although I'm not really happy with how they look as my #1 pair of shoes. They are, as I didn't want, (nicer) tennies. They didn't have the color I wanted in, so we put in an order and paid for the shoes--the ones we ordered and a pair of sandals I took home right then. They said they'd call when my shoes were in. Months go by. No word. Finally, we called them to ask about my shoes, since we did pay and my current pair of shoes are literally falling apart. To note, I go to school out of area, so I'm not in town all that much. Otherwise I would have called sooner, but still. I was expecting, as they promised, they would call me when my shoes got in. But when we called, they didn't have the shoes. In fact, the model had changed and they hadn't even ORDERED the shoes, let alone called to let me know. They didn't order the shoes I had already paid for, and they didn't contact me. I repeat because I'm dumbfounded. It would be one thing (a still less than thrilling thing, mind) if we hadn't purchased the shoes and had simply put a hold on them. Needless to say, I'm unlikely to return. I felt very ignored during my visit and now this incompetence with no real apology offered, let alone any kind of compensation. However, I do quite like the sandals I got, it just feels like luck that the salesperson happened to find something that fit so well. read more
