This review is specifically for the lactation room at Slidell Memorial Hospital in May 2026. I recently visited Slidell Memorial Hospital (SMH) emergency department with a family member. And as a nursing mom, I needed a comfortable and safe place to pump. Unfortunately, it took me almost an hour to find someone who knew where the Lactation Room was or even that it existed. When I finally reached the room, it was perfect! Quiet, calming, and appropriately decorated with thoughtfully selected nursing mom artwork. It had all the essentials, including a refrigerator, comfortable chair, breast pads, and milk storage bags. It can be challenging as a breastfeeding mom, as there aren't many places that truly support this. While society promotes breastfeeding and its benefits, designated spaces needed for moms to comfortably nurse are scarce. Spaces like this, really warm my heart. If you're ever in SMH ask for the house supervisor and they'll direct you to the lactation room. Happy pumping! read more

I have been a patient at Slidell Memorial Hospital (SMH) numerous times since 1973. Throughout the decades, I have watched the facility grow and expand, including the addition of heart surgery capabilities and a helipad. My stepfather received excellent care during his final days at the hospital, and I have personally received first-rate nursing care during my own procedures and during a hospital stay for pneumonia. Even as the staff has evolved over the years, the quality of care has remained consistently high, and I have found that many residents in the Poplarville and Picayune areas rely on SMH for their medical needs. While I appreciate the quality of care provided, I do have reservations about the hospital joining the Ochsner network; I feel that transitioning from a local facility to part of a large corporate chain slightly diminishes its community-focused identity. read more

While traveling thru the area from out of state required immediate medical attention, hospitalization, procedures, and stay for 3 days. Dispute others negative dealings/ input mine was the superior. ER admission was quick, attention & concern for my health obvious. Moved to ICU, for procedure next day, on a Sunday holiday weekend even. Again impressive staff . Post procedure required 2 days of treatment, observation, care. Workers in often, pleasant, knowledgeable. Obviously focused on me & my well being, from top down. Special call out to many, especially N.P., Jessica & staff, I even left with meds needing to be continued. Wish my home state had such a facility & staff. read more

Horrible service. Been sitting in a ER room since 6pm. Was told by ER Dr my wife would be admitted at 8pm and room was being cleaned.... It's 1am the next day.... Room still in "cleaning" status. This is one is several bad experiences here. Won't come back. read more

Sleeper cot was smelly, lumpy, totally uncomfortable. Room was very old and dirty, not cleaned during my stay.Upon Discharge I thought I would have to roll myself out. Charge nurse sat at desk on computer, never acknowledged me and was willing to allow me to go out on my own in a wheelchair. Eventually an aide came and rolled me out. I could say more but mainly the room I was in was very dirty and I felt like I could get a nosocomial infection in there. read more

9 hours in the ER for a moderate emergency??? Really? Especially when there is two era's within a mike from each other? Apparently the busiest day in there is a Monday so you have only one doctor and one PA on duty?! You actually go through a shift change and still no reinforcements?! Why doesn't anyone fix this? Can't be a money issue, the hospitals are making millions, but yet can't pay for additional staff or floating staff to be called if busy?? Something is not working here?! Awful, both my parents got in a wreck. They didnt even check their blood, and after, they sent my parents home. A Day Later, I had to call EMS to my house because my mom was having stroke symptoms, and it turns out she HAD A BLOOD CLOT IN HER LUNG! SMH does a poor job of informing patients of out pocket expenses. On two occassions SMH bills were sent months, and in one case 18 months after a procedure. When you call for an estimate of out of pocket expenses, they can help you. Both of these procedures were non emergency and scheduled with plenty of time to provide an estimate. In the future, if a surgery is needed, I will look to other hospitals. read more

I took my wife to the emergency room at Ochsner Slidell Memorial Hospital last night after she fell. It wasn't busy and it seemed like we would see a doctor within a reasonable time. I found out over the next two hour I was mistaken. The only thing they did quick was get my copayment. Beyond that, my wife suffered in excruciating pain without seeing anyone. We were right across from the nursing station where at least five or six nurses sat around talking and relaxing. I kept asking when the doctor would come and the answer was always soon. They wouldn't even bring her a cup of water. We finally left to seek immediate care. I would suggest unless you have no other choice avoid this place at all cost. Never had any problems until today DO NOT GO TO THEIR ER unless you are truely dying. waited 2 and a half hours in the waiting room for them to move me to another hallway which was basically my "room" to wait another 3 hours for them to tell me all they can do is x-ray but we don't think you need that, basically tell me because my problem wasn't emergent they can't do anything that they have ambulances pulling up getting seen before us because they're actually emergent and that's why we waited so long and i should schedule with my primary care that i told her i don't have . so yeah still waiting here hopefully the actual doctor cares enough to try and figure out what wrong. They gave me a shot and a pill and sent me home with a prescribtion (I posted this last night while i was still in the er so total time spent there 7 hours for them to tell me the same thing not emergent go to primary were not ordering you any test) read more

I had a seizure for the first time in my life and this was the ER that I was brought to by the ambulance. I was here for 7 hours and for what? To get a referral to a neurologist. The compassion and care is lacking for sure with their staff. My nurse was the worst! Healthcare should not be this way. I was scared and not comforted at all! read more

I have to say this is a great place to bring a love one who is sick. Went yesterday and my friends heart wasn't acting right,and she's still there getting the help that she needs. OMG I just can't say enough good things about this place. The staff is so professional , friendly and knowledgeable. The doctors are no nonsense. They do what has to be done with the least amount of discomfort. They explain what's going on and what they're going to do. This hospital has everything you need health wise. There is a pediatric clinic, family clinic, cancer Center and much more. The cancer Center is tops. The staff help you deal with your cancer. They are very understanding. The cafeteria has some really good food reasonably priced. There is a gift shop that has sales throughout the year. Plenty parking This is a great hospital. read more

Absolute worst front desk/ customer service ever. Mask nazis in full force. Dr Duffour refused to refill meds my wife has been on for over 10 and 20 yrs respectively, with no warning. She was forced to go off them cold turkey and it completely screws with her endocrine system not to mention her head. They tried to insist she stay in her car for appts and call into the office, persist in calling her and refusing to lower masks to communicate despite knowing she is nearly deaf and lipreads. She is unable to do phone calls, text or email only. Seriously considering suing them for violations of the ADA. We wouldn't be coming here if we could find another dr. Literally the worst place on the NorthShore you could go for medical help. On a more positive note, Oschner is much much better outfit and we go there when we can. read more

My experience with Labor and Delivery in January was overall pretty good until discharge. My doctor came in the day before and said I could be discharged the following day if I wanted. I said I wanted to and let my nurses know. I again let them know I would like to be discharged the following morning around 7am. The pediatrician came to check out my baby around 10am, but it took the on call doctor literally all day to get to me. I was served dinner before the doctor came to check me for discharge. I didn't end up getting discharged until 5pm. Ridiculous. At one point we could hear my nurse telling the doctor we were eager to be discharged so we could get home to our other child. The doctor said, "well, they'll just have to wait. Oh well." I also had one bad nurse experience my last night. I had informed the nurses on day one that I don't like narcotics and would not be taking them. As a result, when I asked for meds, they would only bring me ibuprofen. On the last night I asked for my meds and a new nurse brought them after shift change. She proceeded to hand me pills without even explaining to me what they were. All of the other nurses told me every time what I was being handed. So I asked her and she told me one of the pills was a narcotic. I politely told her I've just been taking ibuprofen and she got mad. She got an attitude and told me now she had to go get someone to help her log the pill back into the system. This is the ABSOLUTE worst ER department. We arrived at 8:20pm and it's now 12:36am, we're still waiting for test results. Which we were told would be available shortly ( around 9:15pm) I can't fathom how an Ochsner facility functions in such a dysfunctional operation. I'm not one to complain but this needed to be voiced! Hopefully we will receive a Press Ganey survey about this visit and we will be sure to complete it honestly! read more

I just spent 2 days here due to a mental health crisis. It sucked. They pretty much just left me in a room all to myself. Anytime I needed anything including water and using the bathroom, I had to ask over and over. They need employees that are more attentive and compassionate to their patients needs. I took her her as she was in bad pain and can't hold down food or drinks we sit and waiting room for 5 and half hours and still not seen people came in after was seen but not us I left and taking her some where else and if they think I am paying for just sitting in the waiting room they are wrong. The ER was unprofessional and rude. Walked into the ER, covered in my 3 yo's blood, holding him as he screamed in pain. He had fallen, hit his head, and had a laceration on his eye, down to the bone. The woman at the desk told me, after moving at a snails pace with the woman ahead of us, before even getting our information, "just so you know, it'll be a while. He has quite a few people ahead of him". Confused and hysterical I asked why she was telling me this & she preceded to repeat herself, in an uninterested monotone voice, and still hadn't gotten our information. Not a single other person in that room was bleeding or screaming... I asked again why she was telling me this.. she just stared at me, looked around the room, and finally asked for his information. Then AGAIN said "they won't be able to take him for quite a while"... the woman next to us was seen for "headaches" 3 hours before we were seen... Several hours later, he was taken back... the dr, as nice as he was, kept telling me he only needed dermabond. I asked him several times to please recheck it and if he truly believed that it didn't need stitches.. finally, the nurse opened it up and said "she's right. This looks pretty deep". Finally, he actually looked at it and agreed. Then! One unnecessary and dangerous CT & 2 stitches later, the dr brings us whay he believed to be my son's CT results... He kept telling us they were normal. Turned out, they weren't my son's results! My husband points it out that the first name was the same but that was it. The dr says "oh! Well, his are normal too. Must've grabbed the wrong ones". He walked out and we were discharged by a nurse, not seeing him again & never receiving our son's results.. This was the absolute worst careI could imagine. I do not recommend this ER to anyone with an actual emergency. Had I not been shaking uncontrollably, and he not been bleeding so badly, I would have driven him back across the twin span, to Tulane-Lakeside, by our house. read more

Was and still a a nightmare I want to end...we have to move cause of healthcare in Louisiana, tax laws and this was just a confirmation it's time. If we where to need this service knowing this now oschners north shore is the same what people are saying St Tammany hospital is better but still streamedlined as per policies set. So I guess for me I'd wait for the that big bag they stuff you in when you take that last breathe..I'm good..cause I have to drop my healthcare plan in Nov no coverage on blue cross no shield cause I pay 800 plus a month for this. And now a 63 yr old man I WILL NEVER get medijoke but will be ok I hope on a CATASTROPHIC plan and hope its cheaper...that's to this visit, I wondered why I never wanted to go to the E.R. after a complaint the director of smh was horrible, using manager tactics that are taught, silly goose I've been out the game only for 2 yrs...and man he's not that good, just saying. read more

My experience with my mother was beyond horrible. While (most) of the nurses were helpful, the doctors were egotistical, rude and unprofessional. They talked to me as if I had the capacity of understanding of a 2 year old. Had no interest in talking with her regular doctor because (and I quote), "It won't matter to my course of treatment". Mom wound up in ICU. It was awful. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was seen in the ER by a woman, a PA, I can't reveal her name because I am in a malpractice suit against her. She did not allow me to give her my history, she insisted I only tell her about that night! My medical history and current treatment for terminal illnesses (plural) has everything to do with my going to that ER. She wanted my husband to go home and get a Bag and bring to her all of my medicine. I said that was not necessary. I didn't have a chance to answer the questions she asked about what I take. She pulled up an app from Walgreens that had my medications that were prescribed to me over the past 2 or 3 years!! She then reported some assumptions of hers. On the Walgreens database were medicine for a bladder infection, the flu, one for an antidepressant I had for sleep that I only took 7 pills, four years ago because it did not help me sleep. Then she looked in my eyes and said that in her opinion the problem was drug abuse. I take my medicine as prescribed. When I left that ER I appealed this woman's notes. She would not change her diagnosis. Now I am going through a medical malpractice suit against this hospital and this woman. I had moved back here recently, after living out of state about 25 years ago. I found out that Slidell Memorial Hospital is known to the locals as the Slidell morgue. read more

Slidell Memorial Hospital on Gause Blvd. pleasantly surprised me. They have a quick turn over rate, they don't try to keep patients there unnecessarily. The staff are amazing and caring. This is also one of the first hospitals that I have been to that has good food in the cafeteria. The patients also get good, tasty food. If you have a choice, this is the hospital to be at. read more

Slidell Memorial has been my hospital of choice for over 20 years. 5 babies, numerous trips to doctors, emergency room visits have all been a great experience. I have always found the nursing staff to be knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. read more

Wife had terrible stomach pains. We went to the ER and they did the necessary tests and were quick and very considerate. They checked her in and Dr. Francis Petitto ultimately did gallbladder surgery on her the following day. He was extremely professional and was very easy to deal with. We were visiting the are on vacation and he was very sympathetic. The nurse, Flavia, located on med-surgical 1200 was the nicest person ever; So caring and professional and made this difficult experience much more manageable.
