This is my bed after they "made" it.

I'm not gonna go into too much detail. Just know that there was dried food on my sheet when I first arrived. The room smelled like locker room and smoke. The climate control didn't work. They spilled something on my laptop while they "cleaned." Two stars because they were nice.

Had a cockroach crawl out from the blankets. Called the desk but said the place was sold out. Slept on towels.

Clean room, pet friendly, polite staff. Breakfast had waffles with TWO waffle irons. Can you beat that?

I…read morecame here for a work conference with a fellow coworker and we received a discount for staying here (along with other attendees.) Walking in, the lobby is absolutely fabulous, beautifully decorated and well maintained. The staff greets you when you walk in and the front desk has at least one person, usually two working and available all the time along with a concierge. The hotel's located right on main street so you're close to the action of downtown midland. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance along with a private parking garage. There's street parking as well, but I think it's limited to no overnight parking. Speaking of food, the H hotel also has at least one (maybe two) onsite restaurants. I know one of them is called Cafe Zinc. While we didn't eat there, it looked super nice, and worth a shot if you want. The rooms here are amazing. High end mattress, beautifully laid out bathroom with a barn door, coffee station with a Keurig, small fridge and automatic blinds! I abused the automatic blinds and enjoyed not having outside lighting disrupt my sleep. They have a couch that's built into the wall, almost like a daybed. I tried laying on it but I didn't find it all that comfy to be honest. Plenty of charging ports, a robe, slippers and plenty of storage space for your luggage and clothing. The TV is hidden behind a mirror and blends in with the decorum. They have a pool here and an exercise room which I did not use due to lack of time. Valet is by request and aside from a tip, part of your stay here. The concierge will take your luggage up, but don't forget to tip! The meeting and conference rooms were fantastic. The hotel offers different sized rooms, and we used all of them. The largest I think is the Indigo where we ate and had breakfast. The catering staff did a fantastic job of serving breakfast on time and promptly at 7:30 AM, along with lunch as well for both days I was there. If something ran out, the staff refilled it immediately. In the conference rooms, they also provided a briefcase with office supplies if you should need them. I checked it out and actually had to use a few. Such items include highlighters, staplers, note cards, binder clips and other small ticket office items. They also have a fabulous courtyard that leads out into downtown midland. They have curling set up in the middle along with tables and benches throughout. At night, the tables have gas fireplaces so you can toast your buns if it's chilly, like it was the second day we were there. Our conference didn't use the courtyard a lot, but the other convention did. We also sat outside to eat once, and it was great. The only thing lacking was the garbage cans were hard to find. I think they had one by the door but additional garbage cans would've been great. My only complaint? The elevators were down when we arrived. I guess their renovating the two that they have in the lobby and it got annoying after a while. The repair guys were working on it and they got one up and running by the end of the day. The second one was totally out of service. I hope they get that fixed soon as carrying luggage or going up 5 flights of stairs doesn't sound exciting if you're coming and going all the time. Overall, this hotel's a gem and everyone should stay here at least once. What a fantastic experience!

The second visit, we were not able to get the same type of room and settled for a basic queen room. When we first got into the room, we attempted to lower the temperature of the room since it was hot. When the thermostat was lowered the temperature did not change. After contacting the front desk, who very professional, and we were informed the engineer would check out the room. When he arrived, he informed us the coolers were not turned on, but the room was still warm. His solution was to just open a window. Not customer oriented. The shower head was loose and would not stay in position while showering and had to be held in place. Not what was expected for a hotel of this caliber.

I stayed there for 6 nights while my Mom was in the MyMichigan hospital for emergency surgery. Being only a few minutes from the hospital, it made it very easy to come back and take a shower and rest. The room was clean and a large layout with comfortable 2 Queen beds and a pullout sofa, and a nice desk area. My Dad, sister, and I switched on and off in the room so that someone always stayed in the hospital room with my Mom. The free breakfast buffet was a welcome treat in the mornings with lots of hot options like scrambled eggs, egg sandwiches, oatmeal, and waffles. We used the guest laundry machines once, which runs on quarters and worked great. They even let us checkout a little later since my Mom was being discharged that day. Special shoutout to Stephanie at the front desk who always asked how my Mom was doing. I recommend this hotel and will be staying there again if in the Midland area. Thank you so much!

Residence Inn by Marriott Midland - Black mold on the outer corners of the bathtub and shower hidden by the shower curtain

1 Star Residence Inn by Marriott - Midland, MI…read moreAs a Yelp Elite member, I've stayed at countless hotels -- and I can confidently say this was one of the most disappointing and unsafe stays I've ever had at a Marriott property. From the moment we checked into our suite, there were odd, foul odors in the hallway, bathroom, and the room itself. Maintenance did come and change the HVAC filter, but it made no difference. Housekeeping even admitted the bathroom and toilet smelled "off." We ended up running our own air purifier and keeping the toilet lid and bathroom door closed the entire stay. Things only went downhill: - Black mold was visible in multiple places -- in the bathtub corner, on the shower handle, and inside the toilet tank. I physically showed this to management, but they tried to claim it "wasn't mold." It absolutely was. - The kitchen pots and pans had mold inside them. Only after I complained did they bring replacements. - During our stay, a flood leaked from the second floor into the first floor hallway. The carpet was soaked (I stepped in it myself), but no dehumidifiers or drying equipment were ever used. Ceiling tiles stained from the water were left in place. - The hallway light fixtures by our suite were full of dead bugs, never cleaned. Then the safety hazard: my significant other hit his ankle on a nearly 2-inch metal post sticking out of the bedframe (meant to hold the mattress but not fitted right). His ankle swelled to the size of a golf ball. When we showed a photo to the manager on duty, she refused to even look, avoided eye contact, and flatly said, "that's unfortunate." No maintenance ever came to address it, no offer to move us. We had to extend our stay by four days so he could elevate his foot -- at our own expense. The last straw? On checkout day, because of his injury, I had to pack and move everything myself. I was granted a late checkout, then asked for just 20 extra minutes to finish loading the car. We left, I told the front desk we were gone, and yet they still charged me for an entire extra night -- for being 20 minutes late leaving a room with black mold that they denied existed. No discount, no apology, nothing. Just the same robotic indifference we experienced the entire stay, as if ignoring the problems would make them go away. Bottom Line: This hotel had black mold, unsafe furniture, poor sanitation, a flood that was neglected, and dismissive management. Instead of addressing obvious problems, they denied them -- and then had the nerve to charge us extra on the way out. Do yourself a favor: if you have kids or pets (we stayed here because we travel with our dog), just book an Airbnb

While this may be just fine in the public spaces, the rooms are unfortunately left behind modern times to their detriment. Small, utilitarian accommodation with marginal mattresses, scratchy linens, low quality paper products and old fixtures. The "hotel" doubles as teaching space and offers more AV amenities than anything else, including no 24hr desk nor anything above a vending machine. I couldn't even get an extra blanket or hangers! Staying on campus? This may be a fine choice. But other than being along the rail trail, this location is isolated from town.
