Have you ever stayed somewhere that picked a theme and then committed to it with the enthusiasm of…read morea Baptist preacher on Sunday morning? That was this hotel. My bride booked it because it looked a little quirky online. I approached the whole affair with some caution. Lately, a few Marriott's hotels have developed the unfortunate habit of looking better on the internet than they do when you pull into the parking lot. I feared this might be another one of those adventures. I was wrong. The theme was Georgia peaches, and they carried that peach wagon all the way across the finish line. From the fresh peaches waiting when we arrived to the peach sangria offered at check-in, they never missed a note. It wasn't gimmicky. It was thoughtful. The place was spotless. The corridors were clean, the elevator corners were free of the dust bunnies that usually reveal a hotel's true character, and the room was cool, comfortable, and as clean as a grandmother's living room before company arrives. The peach-scented toiletries in the bathroom were a nice touch, though they nearly had to compete with the professionalism of the staff. Everyone we encountered was pleasant, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to be there--something that cannot be manufactured by a corporate training video. And then there was happy hour. My favorite hour. The rooftop bar was excellent, offering good drinks, good views, and a fine place to sit for a spell and watch the day wind down. When we left, I found myself doing something I don't often do with hotels these days: planning a return trip. I'd most definitely stay here again. Sometimes a place promises an experience. This one delivered it, peach by peach.

I spent a lot of time researching where to stay in Macon on the way back from TN. I ended up…read morechoosing Hotel 45, we were pulling a trailer with off roading equipment and the valet said they could park it. Now the actual lot is not fenced or gated, and in the area was quite sketchy. The hotel itself is modified well, the onsite restaurants are chic and the hotel is in a great walking distance to restaurants. The hotel is dog friendly with a $150 fee, which is pretty steep considering there is no actual designated dog area or amenities for them. Not to mention the hotel cost on a random Wednesday night for a double queen was around $300. Most of the restaurants and shops closed around 5 pm. There was no access to vending machines or snacks within a close distance. If you wanted anything it would have to be purchased through the upstairs bar. I will say the staff were welcoming and polite, but upon checking in we were given a room key that already had guests in the room. My son was the first to open the door and I can't imagine if he had walked into a room of a person getting changed..... so big mistake there. The rooms are nicely updated, I love SMEG appliances but our mini fridge was loud when the motor kicked in. It's no 4 seasons but probably the classiest establishment in Macon, GA.

The bathroom was nice, although unfortunately, I had no hot water for my morning shower. The biggest disappointment was breakfast in the Club Lounge. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I've enjoyed breakfast at many hotels, but this was by far my worst experience. The eggs were inedible, the sausage appeared undercooked, and the fruit was unripe. I also didn't see any cereal as an alternative. An oatmeal bar would have been a welcome addition and provided a healthier option. While the room itself was comfortable, the lack of hot water and especially the poor breakfast experience fell short of the standards I've come to expect from Marriott.

I bet this property was very nice back in the day. Unfortunately, the current management has…read moreallowed it to decline to what feels more like motel status. The entire property is worn, run-down, and in need of significant attention and maintenance. The carpets and walls are dirty, there are areas of what appears to be mold, and the property generally feels unclean. The common areas aren't maintained any better than the guest rooms. During my stay, I haven't seen anyone vacuum, sweep or mop the floors, clean the glass, or perform much routine cleaning at all. I travel roughly 100 days a year and frequently stay at Marriott properties, so I'm genuinely surprised that a property in this condition is operating under the Marriott name without intervention from the parent company. Perhaps corporate leadership is unaware of how far this location has declined, but it's time for someone from Marriott to visit this property and see its condition firsthand.
