I've been ordering my dog's food from Slanker for several years and have always been happy with both the food and the service. I want raw 100% grass fed and finished beef with organs for my 11 y.o. 3-legged dog from the Humane Society and she is thriving. I do have a local grass fed holistic butcher shop nearby but they can't come near the price I get at Slanker. I took off 1 star because after the sale of the ranch, the shipping packaging is not as thick and solid as it was when Ted Slanker owned the ranch and coming to Phoenix, AZ, that can be an issue! read more

I recently made a purchase on beef minute steaks, drumettes, and beef bacon which cost me about $242. The beef steaks where completely oxidized and far from being fresh. The drumettes were spoiled and I responded to Angie who works at Slanker's. She responded back to me with, she's sorry that I was disappointed and that their chickens are feed with Omega 3 feed. That it's completely impossible that it could ever be spoiled, and the oxidized beef cutlets are okay to eat. Since I'm a first-time customer, she insisted no one else has complained about the spoilage. How delusional and sorry you have to be to think Slanker's product cannot be spoiled? Well, I will never purchase anything from this company again and I hope all future customers take this into consideration. read more

I saw some negative reviews, mostly about meat being "tough". Maybe they do NOT know how to cook "grass fed" products. If they are used to High heat, that will not work, you must care about the cooking process. It is delicious, flavorful, just perfect cuts of meat and depending on your taste, you can order lower fat items or higher fat which of course is more tender. I like lower fat, this is the first of many companies that explains how to cook the meat, explains the fibers in the beef, etc., and as far as Customer Service, they respond quickly and are very concerned about satisfying the customer. A company which is out of business now, sent expired items and said just freeze them. If you want quality, expansive products to choose from, great service, go to Slankergrassfed and start enjoying good health from good people as well as great tasting meals! Thank you Slanker! A great team you have! read more

I have ordered meats from Slanker for several years, and I have never had one complaint. My first order after the management change had two roasters that contained the contents in their stomachs - I called Slanker and never received any response. My next order had a roaster with feathers on the legs - I called Slanker and never received any response. I just received over $500 worth of meat that was packaged with flimsy insulation, nothing like the rock-solid insulation I am used to receiving. My meats, except for the roasters, were completely thawed out. The roasters were about halfway thawed. There was a pool of blood on the bottom of the box and blood all over the meat - it was disgusting. The only reason I am not asking for a refund is that the temperature of the meat was 32°F - we received the delivery just before 11:00 am - had we not been home, it would have rotted in the 91°F temperature. I will not call, I am done! I understand that Ted Slanker just sold his operation to another owner. If I were Ted Slanker, I would demand a change in the company name so the Slanker name won't be stained. What a shame! read more

I really wanted to like this farm to table vendor. However, the steaks we received were tough and chewy almost to the point of being inedible. Good quality 100% grass-fed steaks should be tender and bold tasting, these were the opposite of that. And it doesn't really seem like there is anyone there whose job it is to take customer service matters seriously. The folk who answer the phone are nice, but their response is that the "manager" who "isn't always around" is who deals with customer complaints and other order issues, and that they themselves either cannot or will not handle it. A note to the manager if they ever read this: Premium prices command premium quality and service. read more

This is the one and only grass fed meat that makes it in my kitchen. I like to support a small local farm and this is the one - out of the few that I tried -which in my opinion has the most quality meat, above par customer service, and weekly specials that make it more affordable in our inflationary policy system. The way the products are shipped is fantastic, the meat is well wrapped and still frozen upon arrival, the delivery very quick, with a detailed list of each product, making it easier to track them when buying large orders. I've made Christmas gifts with SGFM to friends and family, and everyone raved about this meat. Don't let "party poopers" deter you from trying the meat from this small TX farmer, try it yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about. The local grocery stores' meat is certainly sub-par compared with Slanker's meat. P.S. He also has the most enlightening newsletters from which I've learned a lot. read more

I have placed and received several orders from Slanker in the past few years. I am waiting right now for my newest order to arrive in the next couple of hours. Everything has always arrived as expected. I am completely satisfied. I'm always looking for the biggest bang for the buck, so I order chuck roasts and briskets. I cook them in a slow cooker "crock pot" for 10-12 hours on low and they turn out excellent. read more

This is a 5 star follow-up for TASTE ONLY. Read below on my response to a recent response from the owner. ***************************************************************************************** In response to Ted's comments I feel that an update is warranted. If you see Ted (owner's) comments below you will see that he decided to take my feedback, ultimately a 5-star review, and go on the defense. For the record I have bought 2 half-side of beef orders (separate dates) with Slankers before and I was actually getting ready to make another. I really feel that while my comments may from my first review have been a little bit tongue-and-cheek, they were all true. First and foremost he comments on what I had to say on the good breakdown. I never said anything negative here so I'm not even sure why he's pointing out how meats are packaged or even touching on food safety here (which I never even questioned or was concerned about) Then he starts to jab at the "bad" section which again, I never got the bone-in rib and neither did my co-worker on that particular order. Nobody ever said anything to us that we weren't going to get baby back rib cut but fine, I didn't even deduct a star of the review since I was so happy with Slankers. Alright then we get at the real heart of the issue, the ugly. Let's review what I basically said in the initial review: 1.) I'm giving Ted the benefit of the doubt since he's doing the website and managing a business. 2.) The Time Cube reference was tongue and check but if anybody goes to that website (which is HORRIBLY racist, you've been warned) you'll too notice that the common factor is the wealth of information and the color contrast issues. It was probably not the best reference but at the time it was the first thing that came to my mind. Ultimately I wasn't penalizing him anywhere in the first review, I was giving feedback and recall of experience. I guess if I was a REAL HARDASS, I could have not ordered with him in the first place. The Slankers GrassFed Beef website IS awful for the above reasons mentioned and that's MY OPINION. I feel that the website DOES need to be overhauled but hey, that's up to Ted. If he feels that his website doesn't drive away potential customers then fantastic, don't do a dang thing. However with the rise of CrossFit and the Paleo diet I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that he does at least do a little bit of reorganization and consider having a much more pleasing to the eye color scheme. This way people will actually read through the material that he put so much of his time to find and compile. Simply put I'm a little taken back by how defensive Ted got here. I realize he has a business to handle so as an owner he's just defending for something he really believes in (which you can gather from the website once when you get through some links). I got that, that's why I went with him in the first place. Plus if you talk to the people on the phone they're super nice and helpful. With that said though.... This makes me wonder: in the future if there's any issues with my orders will Ted get on the defense again? I'm not saying that Slankers officially lost a customer but this warrants a moment to rethink who deserves my hard earned dollars: a business that takes feedback and improves themselves (or at least graciously takes the advise) or just writes a defensive rebuttal and making me feel like my opinion on Yelp is unfounded. Food for thought, pun intended. read more

I ordered 15 filet mignon's from Slanker Meats. Supposed to be $39.99 a lb. I got a discount at the time. They came with all the dry ice melted, freezer burnt, fatty and gristly and ranging in sizes from 4.3 oz to only one 6.8 oz. They were all supposed to be apron 5 to 6 oz. which for us is a perfect size. But come on 4oz is just a bite for the men in my family. I asked Slanker what they would do? and at first the lady rep. said she would work everything out. I told her she could send a prepaid label and box and I would return them, she could just give me a credit or she could replace the order. Which would mean she would send the correct product and a return label and I would pack up the bad ones. She said she had to call the owner? Really, she was supposed to be customer service. So she emailed me back and said the owner said that they weren't freezer burnt there were just crystals on the meat. Ok everyone isn't that freezer burn when air gets into the package because it wasn't sealed properly and causes crystals. Then she began to tell me all there meat goes out different sizes because they hand butcher them??? duh. I have broken down a full beef tenderloin and I can certainly make them any size I want to. 4 of the steaks (?) if you call them that looked like the tip of the tenderloin, which would not sell at $39.99 a lb. So folks, I am stuck with substandard cuts and product. If you want to buy quality grass fed grass finished go to D'Artagan Meats. Each steak is 8 oz and perfectly packaged with little or no fat. After all it is a filet not a rib eye. I will never purchase anything from Slanker again and if you are smart you won't either. PS: Our Walmart here in Las Vegas has grass fed grass finished filets at $19.99 a lb. give them a try also. read more

I order from Slanker Texas Grass Fed meat because there is nothing in the local grocery stores, including "health food" specialty shops, to equal the quality. I live in Texas and cannot drive two miles in any direction without seeing cattle in grassy fields, however, local shops who do carry meat with a "grass fed" label source it from remote locations like Australia. Why, I cannot imagine. So far none of what I get locally compares in taste and quality to Slanker meats. I have been filling my freezer every autumn with a variety of grass fed beef, pastured pork, chicken and wild caught fish from Slanker. The bulk order gives me the volume discount, and lasts until time to turn off the freezer for the summer. As a diabetic I follow a low carb diet based on green leafy vegetables and high quality protein. Fortunately I can get cage free eggs locally. My "numbers" cardio and diabetes labs have remained in the "healthy" range for over 10 years. Slanker's website is also one of the most reliable for the science of proper nutrition, including but not limited to "paleo" diet, proper fatty acid profile of good diet, and "the real diet of man." The weekly articles alone are good enough reason to visit this website. read more

Ordered the family sampler pack. I live about an hour and a half away, but for the weight and the price of gas, it was slightly cheaper to have it shipped than to drive out to the ranch. Everything came promptly and still rock-hard frozen. So far, I have tried the NY Strip steaks and they were wonderful. Sandra was very helpful via email and over the phone on how to cook the meat. I normally like beef medium to medium-rare, but I gave these steaks a shot at rare and cooked them low and relatively slow. They were very beefy, like I remember beef used to taste like as a kid. The fat, while chewy since it was not cooked that long, had great flavor as well. I look forward to cooking some chicken and trying the other cuts soon. The website is not super-flashy and and can be a little difficult to navigate, so if you have questions, just call them. They are very friendly and helpful. read more

I sent an email expressing my displeasure with a recent article published on the website. I was brief and not profane. The response I received was rude, heartless, and in poor taste from a so-called businessman. I was mocked for needing a "safe space" (Ted's words) and called out for perceived hatred because I dared question the tone, appropriateness, and content of their publication. I was looking forward to purchasing products from them, however this is not the way to conduct a business. It was reactionary and insulting to a (former) potential customer. read more

I have been really educating myself more about the quality of food I eat , where it comes from, and how it's raised. I went to several different sites and found that Slankers is the best value on the Internet for Grass Fed Beef. Additionally, the customer service was exceptional as my first 2 orders came to me exactly as promised and my family enjoyed the flavorful meat much more than the grain fed feedlot meat you get at the supermarket. My only concern is that sometimes the cuts of meat I look for are out of stock, but I guess that's to be expected when your the best value on the net and demand is high. For the most part I can just order a different cut. I have really been interested in ordering the pork, however, it's never been in stock when I order. My only other challenge is getting my wife to understand the proper way to cook grass fed meat as in two months I have yet to eat a cut medium rare. This is not Slankers fault as they provide more than enough information on how to properly handle and prepare the meat. read more

My wife started looking for local sources of grass fed beef, and when we found Slanker's, we took a trip up to Paris to visit the farm with our kids two years ago. They were very helpful, had the order ready, and we bought a month's worth of food. The prices are better than Whole Foods, and the food is closer to the source. The only complaint I've had is my inability to cook - but I try to share the website as much as possible. The meat arrives frozen, even in the Texas heat, and goes right into the freezer. Ted and Sandra are the real deal, and we're very pleased with their service and the food quality. read more

I ordered the family sampler pack of bison. I received it 1 day early. So far, I've had two steaks, ribeye and New York. I was very disappointed. The New York was so tough I finally gave it to my dog. I had the hardest time chewing it. I spent more than $11.00 for this steak and couldn't even finish eating it. I buy most of our meat from texasgrassfedbeef.com (Slanker). I have not tried their fish yet; I get fish at Vitalchoice or locally. I trust that when Ted says cows are 100% grass fed, they actually are. Now my products reviews: I like their beef. It's never gamey. It ain't a corn fed steak, so you have to cook it low temp and best on the rare side. Lots of flavor. About the high omega 3 meats - The high omega 3 feed they use does change the traditional flavor of the meat. My wife says the chicken had a "livery" flavor. It kind if does; especially in the dark meat. So we generally buy breasts and wings. I can eat thighs but I don't buy them because my wife doesn't like the flavor. Now the omega 3 pork... We have come to the conclusion that we just can't buy it. We mostly wanted plain pork belly for our bacon, but the omega 3 feed makes it taste like spoiled meat. In fact we thought it was spoiled on delivery only to find it comes that way every time. All fat deposits in the omega 3 pork have that horrible spoiled meat taste. I wish I didn't have to report this, but it's true in our opinion. Sometimes we get pork chops that are mostly ok, but then you find that one or two bites that has that awful spoiled meat taste in a fat deposit and it's just not worth eating the rest of it. So we're done with omega 3 pork unless Ted finds an omega 3 feed that works better for flavor. Non-Omega 3 Pork will be a once in awhile treat. We love their chicken stock. It is the best anywhere. I cannot make a better chicken stock myself no matter what I do. I wish they would use better containers though because the chinese-food style plastic quart containers many times crack and splinter near the lid presumably due to being poured scalding hot, then fast frozen. The plastic shards that result are something we just got used to checking for. We heat the container with tepid water until the frozen stock pops out, then we carefully melt and rinse the top to be sure we're not getting plastic shards in our stock because they are sharp and dangerous. Fresh turkey was excellent. I cannot recall if the one we bought was an omega 3. Lastly, the omega 3 eggs taste good but are almost NEVER available, so they're irrelevant. I will continue to buy the products that work for us, but they risk loosing our business if I can find high omega 3 eggs and high omega 3 chicken and pork that tastes better. I don't know if that's possible, but Slanker has not found the magic recipe for pork anyway. read more

Ok, so I don't want this to keep going on. It seems as if both of us have become frustrated over this issue. I wish I could deal with this issue with Mr Slanker man to man reasoning with one another privately and peaceably. I tried that before I wrote this review, but he was not willing to negotiate or see reason, just anger and his way. At one point I had said that I would drop everything and move on if he would only see some reason and give me a half refund for the meat I wasn't comfortable eating, and he told me in so many words to go jump in the creek. My main problem with all this is that Mr Slanker was not even willing to compromise with me in the simplest bit. All of this could have been avoided if he had simply given me the option to return the meat and get a refund. He did not seem to want to be reasonable. Now regardless of what he has on his sight it doesn't do anyone any good if you can't find the info I as the customer am looking for. I understand that his view is that you don't need that, but my view is not the same as I do believe we need that. Now shouldn't we be able to come together in one sense and help. Now I was misinformed that Carolyn is his wife, and that is one small piece, and I apologize for that error. This is just it. I don't want a problem with Ted Slanker, and never did. All I wanted was a good experience buying grass fed beef. This was my first time buying grass fed beef, and I have since bought many other cuts. A matter of fact I just bought four cuts of nice rib eye recently. The actual places name I bought it from is not important, but that I know them and I researched their products, and most importantly yes they have given me nutrition facts and they are a registered USDA farm. If you want to know who they are you can message me directly. Other than that truly I am done with this. I just want to move on with my life now, and the only reason I even posted this was so you would make an informed decision before buying from anyone who does not want to be reasonable and work with you so you both can have a happy experience. So again I say goodbye. read more

I've been ordering lean ground beef from Slanker's for a few years, and I've never been disappointed. I first found the site while doing some comparison shopping for grass-fed beef online. At the time, it was difficult to find grass-fed beef in stores for an affordable price (at least where I usually shop). Slanker's offered good prices (probably 10-20% cheaper than other sites I found) and proved to back it up with consistently great service. I've probably received 20-30 orders by now without a single glitch. I placed my last order yesterday afternoon, expecting it to take the usual day or two to ship, with a day or two in transit (both entirely reasonable), but I received a shipping notice email shortly after ordering. The order arrived at my doorstep today, packaged nicely in a sturdy, chilled box, as usual. It sat on my porch in the hot Texas sun all day long, but when I got home and opened it up, the meat was still frozen as hard as a rock. With a 62-lb. order, I also get significant discounts that bring the total price per pound to a little over $7, including free shipping. That's less than twice the price of the standard "ground beef" that they sell in grocery stores, for a much healthier (and much more flavorful) product. Can't beat that! read more

I ordered the family pack of meat a week before Christmas. My husband loves everything he's eaten so far and so does our dog! The beef knuckles are a big hit with our German Short Hair Pointer puppy. It's as good as Omaha Steaks and grass-fed rather than corn-fed so it's better for you. It's tender, juicy, and delicious. It came quickly in the mail on the day they said it would. It was in one big box, all frozen and individually-wrapped with labels including price/pound. I highly recommend their meat. read more

I ordered twice from these guys so far. The meat arrived as advertised, mostly frozen with some of the product near the edges ever so slightly thawed (still colder than the open fridges at the supermarket). And that's shipping from Texas to Florida both times in the summer. Great source for grass feed meats. If I could make one suggestion, and this isn't a huge deal to me, is that the website tie into an inventory system. This would prevent someone from ordering 10 of something when only 5 are available. When this did occur, I was promptly contacted by the company and our order was adjusted. Anyway, just a suggestion, I understand you guys are farmers and ranchers first and operating and maintaining a complex computer system and website are probably not a top priority. Customer service was very helpful and friendly by the way. Keep up the good work. I wish more people were raising their livestock like you guys. read more

I have ordered meat from Slanker's (delivery, not on-site pickup) twice -- once with the sampler pack option and once with a 25-lb order of mostly beef but with some poultry, lamb, and pork included. Both times the quality has been excellent. The boxes arrived the days that their emails predicted, and the meat was still frozen solid. The free shipping was amazing and prices were quite reasonable for the order given that the prices also reflect shipping. Most other sources I have found for pastured meat online charge ridiculous amounts for shipping. Taste and quality for the different cuts were universally excellent. This is a wonderful source for organ meats of all kinds; my local farmer's market has some great grass-fed meats but very seldom any offal besides liver. Be aware that there is a minimum purchase requirement for both weight and price. read more

I was at first enthusiastic about the slanker meats. I felt I had found a genuinely healthy source of meats. I pretty much live across the country but the meat always arrived completely frozen and well packed. I started to get my doubts though when I found that several of their chicken meats have a distinct fishy aftertaste. So I wanted to know what they where being fed: according to their website that is proprietary information!!!! I'm paying 30 usd for a whole chicken and it turns out that it's not really clear what that chicken is being fed.!!!! It's not organic because according to the website: organic has no meaning in nutrition and food safety (Mr Slankers exact words). And all these people asking him about GMO's are also not understanding what they are talking about according to Mrs Slanker. (I do agree with him that GMO may not so much be a problem with the changing of genetics, but my concern with GMO is the enormous amounts of herbicides and pesticides used to grow them) I havent looked up what his cows and pigs are eating but I feel I know enough. I'm back to buying organic chicken at Costco for 10 usd each. At least I know that they where checked by the USDA and are fed organic feeds. And if I want those omega's Mr Slanker is talking about I'll buy some wild caught salmon, also at Costco. On top of feeling being taken for a fool for having forked out the kind of money I did for his meats, I also did not appreciate his disparaging remarks in his newsletters for all those that have other idea's about food than he has: those that want to reduce their red meat intake and vegetarians. No need to insult people. read more
