Yes, the people enrolled made a mistake. Who hasn't? They are paying for it in more ways than one and are still humans that deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. This place should be shut down or everyone should be fired and get some people in there that actually have empathy and want to help. It seems to me that people don't fully comprehend how other programs (especially those in government-run facilities in states outside of California) really take away the agency of the patient. I felt like I was in the driver's seat regarding my care from the moment of my intake to the minute of my discharge. Personally, I received nothing but the highest ethic of care and respect. The number of comments complaining about the urine testing seem especially misplaced to me. Is it inconvenient? Of course, especially if you have never had an issue with substance abuse. However, my background includes working in medical offices, so please understand that the urine testing is for more than just the detection of drugs; it's also vital to detecting anomalies within your body that could be missed otherwise. That background in medical offices has also taught me to understand that mistakes happen, and even the best offices still need patients to advocate for themselves. That's the reality of living in the society that runs managed healthcare the way it does. That's not to excuse rude or invalidating providers (and, in my experience, psychiatrists tend to be particularly short on bedside manners) but I think that's a far more legitimate issue to hold against this place, even as I have never experienced it myself. Without a doubt, the office isn't perfect--but no office is. And when it comes to mental illness, which is particularly unique to every individual, it's virtually impossible to expect any program or facility to be the solution for every potential client. For me, it worked, and I will always be grateful for that.

I called to reschedule an appointment and was told the provider was 4 months out. Luckily they had a telehealth spot that day. I entered the video call and the provider joined. But I was unable to turn on microphone or video on my end but I could hear and see the provider. I messaged him through the chat that I was having trouble. After a moment he stated her still couldn't see me. I messaged aging wanting to know if we could talk over the phone instead. After a moment he hung up. I called the office stressed and upset but couldn't reach anyone so I left a message. That was on Friday. A week has passed and no one from the office has reached out. I understand the office is busy with chico growing and more clientele. I am not blaming the provider. But mental health isn't something you can wait 4 months for to get checked out, especially when something sudden comes up. There is enough anxiety and stress associated with the sudden issue and need to reschedule, but then the office doesn't even call you back.

I want to start by separating the quality of the medical professionals I have encountered from my…read moreexperience with Mangrove Medical as an organization. The doctor I work with is incredibly knowledgeable, as have been the medical assistants and nurses I've encountered. My criticism is not directed at them. My problem is with the administrative practices surrounding that care. The waiting room is routinely crowded, and the practice operates at an obviously high volume. Despite that, Mangrove imposes an extraordinarily high cancellation fee on patients. I receive medical care in Sacramento and the Bay Area, including through specialty practices, and I have not encountered cancellation fees comparable to what Mangrove charges. That policy is particularly galling given Mangrove's own relationship with appointment times. I have been seeing my provider for more than a year, and by my estimate, they run about 30 minutes behind on average. Yet after waiting, my appointments frequently feel rushed. I rarely spend more than 10 minutes with my provider. Waiting half an hour or more only to feel hurried through the few minutes I actually receive with my doctor is neither attentive care nor respectful of a patient's time. My experiences trying to address these delays with the front desk have been similarly frustrating. Communication about delays and their impact on patients has been consistently poor and, at times, dismissive. The result is an unpleasant double standard: patients are expected to arrive on time, accommodate Mangrove's chronic delays, accept brief appointments when we are finally seen, and pay an exorbitant fee if we cannot meet their cancellation requirements. Mangrove does not appear to hold itself to anything approaching the same standard. For patients with limited options for primary care, there is also little practical ability to simply take our business elsewhere. That makes these policies and practices even more frustrating. I wish the administrative side of Mangrove reflected the knowledge and professionalism I have experienced from the medical staff themselves. After more than a year as a patient, the disparity between the two has become impossible to overlook.

This place is truly awful. I was there every day for at least an hour over four weeks visiting my…read moremom. It commonly takes about 40 minutes to get anyone's attention. They will leave your loved one's bowel movements in their mobile commode all day. To get a nurse to administer meds is an act of God, but if you bring in over-the-counter medication for your loved one, the CNAs will take it out of their private storage while you're not around and never mention it. One CNA stole the heating pad I purchased for my mom to help with her pain. When I asked her where it was, she said it was a fire hazard and she had placed it in her personal vehicle. My mom got scabies while she was there. Though several CNAs saw it and provided her with hydrocortisone for it, no one identified that it was scabies, treated it, or washed her sheets. I was heartbroken watching the staff completely ignore and verbally abuse my mom's roommate, who was extremely ill and confused about why she was there. It took almost three weeks and six calls to get a call back from the social worker to discuss my mom's treatment plan and progress. By the time I got a call back, I was furious and wanted her out of there, which they initially refused to facilitate. They forgot my mom's medical appointments in spite of numerous reminders. When they finally acknowledged it, they didn't dress her and wouldn't transport her. The receptionists are on another planet and are absolutely no help. They don't even know who is coming or going. High points: There were a select few staff members who brought my mom joy and treated her with dignity, including a very sweet and charismatic male CNA, the kind-hearted man who does transportation, and the physical therapists, who were fantastic and the only staff members who actually communicated with me about her treatment plan, needs and progress. It's been six months and I still feel sick to my stomach anytime I'm nearby. Please do not send your loved one here, especially if they don't have the ability to advocate for their own needs.

I have been seeing Lise for well over a year now. I tried a few other therapists in town prior to…read morebeing recommended to her. I can honestly say that I have grown leaps and bounds since she's become my therapist. Most significantly, she shows up authentically. We have very good boundaries as client and therapist, but I swear I feel like I'm talking to my friend when I connect with her. She keeps it real with me and has taught me the importance of being kind to myself. As a person of color, I am conscious of whether a therapist is sensitive to my unique struggles of living in a predominantly White community. She is fantastic in that sense and always validates my experiences. As of late, Lise and I have done therapy sessions by phone, which I have found tremendously helpful because she has been available within the hour. A month ago, I was driving, frustrated about something in my relationship. I texted her and she was willing to do a session immediately. I pulled over to the side of the road, had a powerful phone conversation with her, and was able to journey through the remainder of my day with new tools to navigate my stuff. As I said, we have very professional boundaries, but I swear I want to hug this woman all the time. I couldn't imagine seeing someone different. She's amazing!!!

I have worked with the masters in my field because of Lise and her voice is often that sweet voice of wisdom and self kindness (and humor) that comes to me in times of need. I would recommend her all day long and to the people I most care about. Lise is a therapist's therapist. Lucky for everyone else, you don't have to be a therapist to see her!
