I took 5 dresses and a small jacket to get priced, and the lady handed me a paper quote well over $100. I was SHOCKED. I told her there is no way this is feasible, then she told me to hold on and discounted 15% to just under $100. What? When did dry cleaning become a negotiation service? Not professional. Even with the quote, it was way too high. So, I picked out my most expensive items to get cleaned, then the lady asked what I would like to pay for them. I told her there is no way they can match what I'm used to paying, told her my previous experiences, and she asked if $15 a dress was ok. Since they were expensive dresses, I said yes. Both dresses had jewels on them which were considered "special cleaning" so the rate was supposedly a bit higher. However, the other dresses I took home were basic black dresses and not special cleaning, but they still gave me the same rate for ALL dresses on paper, which makes the process even more shady. Here's the thing...I just moved from Dallas (Highland Park area, which is the most expensive zip code in the city, not to brag at all, but read my point), and I never paid such high prices. Most standard dry cleaners offered a flat $2-3 per piece rate. For special cleaning items, I occasionally paid up to $10 for a high-end brand at the most expensive place in Dallas, but usually $5-7 at the normal places, and they always turned out fine. The median income for Dallas/Highland Park is much higher than Chalfont, so it's difficult to believe that everyone around here pays close to $15 per piece of clothing. While the cleaning turned out just fine, I would not go back unless I had an expensive piece of clothing to dry clean, and even then, I'm still not sure if I would go as I felt the back and forth negotiation and haggling of prices was completely absurd. The language barrier was also high throughout this process, so that also did not help.
