My husband and I toured The Avenues in preparation for my mother's visit. The facility is welcoming with lovely art and furnishings in the common area. However, more than the physical environment, you are welcomed by staff and residents. Since that first visit we were all welcomed into this wonderful community. Watching the community grow with Thursday gatherings, weekly events that appeal to different interests, the amazing garden and resident lead pot-lucks has made me grateful that The Avenues welcomed my mother into this community. Thank you all for the community that you have all created.

The front staff at Avenues is great and the concept of the facility wonderful. Unfortunately the…read moreapartments, though very well laid out, are cheap. The carpet is thin and never comes clean. The appliances are so cheap they are not worth fixing if they break. The kitchen cabinets must be the cheapest ever made, same goes for the mini blinds, all you have to do is touch them to make them bend beyond repair. They residents deserve better. They have worked hard all of their lives and gave up their family homes. The people who live there are friendly, intelligent , knowledgeable people but if you think you are moving into an active senior 55 and older community, be prepared, average age is closer to 75.

Fall for a pretty facade and this is what you will get! I won't deny that this is one of the most…read morebeautiful facilities in town but, scratch the surface and this is what you will REALLY find: * Repeated reviews about understaffing during the night * Repeated reviews complaining about overworked night aides * Repeated reviews where family members are suspicious of, or flat out accuse staff members of creating positive reviews (this explains why so many reviews go from 5 stars down to one star) How do I know about their problems? First, I am a nurse educator with a master's degree in nursing. Second, I reviewed Colorado's State Licensure discipline made against Gardens on Quail. LICENSURE DISCIPLINE: On 3/19/23, Gardens on Quail's license was disciplined for what the state of Colorado labeled "Physical Abuse". An older woman was found tied to her wheelchair which is against the law. Allow me to explain WHY these sort of events happen: when a facility is understaffed and aides are overworked, they were simply trying to keep their patient safe. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN POWER BACK-UP Other problems: a few weeks ago the facility had a power outage and their emergency power generator did not work. When the heaters stopped working, my dad got cold, so he pressed his call light. It was not working either! While trying to seek help, he went into the dark and uninhabited hallway, fell, and laid there for an undisclosed period of time. IT IS A STATE REQUIREMENT THAT MEDICAL FACILITIES MAINTAIN BACK-UP POWER. I asked three staff members if my dad had his walker or wheelchair with him when he was lying on the floor in the dark hallway and no one seemed to know any details, nor did they get back to me. INSUFFICIENTLY TRAINED NURSE AIDES (called QMAPS) If your loved one resides here, PLEASE, TAKE IT UPON YOURSELF TO CLOSELY SUPERVISE MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION because it is being performed by nurse aides who underwent a short med training program. My dad kept getting repeat eye infections. He then revealed the aide was violating infection control practices by touching the eye dropper to his eye. The nurse aide also did not know how to properly administer eye drops because they mixed two different types of drops, instead of waiting between the different prescriptions. This could potentially make eye drops ineffective.

My mother was is memory care for only 6 weeks until she fell, broke her hip and died!! The staff seems wonderful but the "care plan" we meticulously wrote out was never followed! My mom was given medication at the wrong times, given PRN medication she didn't need, her oxygen, she required at all times was not put back on her after transferring from the dining room, hourly checks (which we paid extra for) were never fulfilled. The staff are caregivers not CNA's, the head nurse is not an RN but an LPN and the backgrounds of the director and marketing director are from Best Buy!! The monthly cost was $10,900 and when I asked for a line item account I was sent something so confusing an accountant couldn't not even decipher. We had four adult family members in constant contact with the staff, administrators and had multiple daily visits and lots of promises were made that were never followed through! I feel so bad for families who don't have the time to be in this much contact and are relying on this facility to care for their loved ones! It is a travesty!!

Each required different levels of care with Mom going to Generations and Dad landing in Assisted Living. Both sides were exactly what they each needed and the loving care of the employees throughout their stays exceeded all expectations! We feel so Blessed! The journey into the pandemic and the steps that were taken with each governmental step/mis-step was incredible! They adapted and accommodated every issue and protected our folks! The activities, events and dining was spectacular! Mom loved the activities more than Dad and took part in them most every day. Dad was more selective, picking the ones he knew he'd enjoy and relaxing to his movies and sports when he felt like it. We couldn't have found a better place to take care of them! 5 Stars isn't high enough! We'll miss alot of names but so many went the extra effort to help them. Thank you! My mother has been there for a year and a half, and with some changes in the staff in the last year the building is absolutely beautiful. Well maintained the people are being taken care of even better than they were last year. Things are getting better and better every day Jo is our new building manager and the most caring person I've ever met. She has previous experience working for assisted-living homes so she goes a step further to make sure that the people in the independent home get what they need. She sees things from a different perspective and she makes it happen. Sometimes older people have a hard time with each other's personalities ,so when you're your parent complains, make sure that they're OK by calling somebody in the building and then just make your parent feel comfortable again. They go on and they're fine. Life is hard for all of us moving our parents in a place where they can be happy and be with others, not alone in their homes. Just make sure that you keep a good close eye on them , You will have a more secure feeling about what you're doing to make sure that they are safe happy and have friends. The aging process is tough. I hope this helps in your journey with your parent. And a big hug goes a long way !!!!

Meals are served in the community dining room where we, the residents, can get together and chat with neighbors while enjoying hot meals served three times daily. There's even "pet stations" around the perimeter of the property. I feel very safe walking for exercise on the paved quarter mile around the property. We have a library, puzzle room and exercise room to mention a few things, plus a chapel. Veterans are treasured. Did I mention the football tail-gate parties with an awesome buffet? There's even a small community garden. I'm blessed to be a part of this community. Eileen W.
