I had my first experience skydiving here, as tandem with the handcam photo package. Out of the Blue Skydiving had the best price of the half a dozen places we called in Colorado; with some of the best ratings. The drive from Denver was about two hours; though worth it for my first time skydiving. Out of the Blue made it a fun experience. We arrived to sign our waivers and watch a brief video. They really cover their asses legally but as a corporate professional, I can appreciate that. They explain how the instructor will need to be in extremely close proximity, and will need to touch in certain places to get the gear on. You basically can't sue if you get injured (understandably so). Shortly after we were approached by our instructors. They suited us up, quickly ran through the drill and we were ready to go. We were offered the choice to wear a jump suit or not. We opted not as it was a very sunny day. I felt safe the entire time. Meeting the instructor, hearing he needed to jump 500+ times in order to become an instructor and has since jumped up to a dozen times a day for work. We didn't go on "one", "two", or "three"; he just pushed us out. He likely picked up on the fact that I'd need that. I had a smile plastered on my face the entire time. Glad I got the handcam photo package. The pictures make me smile, what an incredible experience. We landed on foot with two people running out to assist with the parachute. (I was instructed to pull my knees up to allow the instructor to land. I understand sometimes its a seated landing, depending on the wind and the landing. We got lucky and I was told to put my feet quickly down so we could just stand.) This place really had a sense of community. Some great people. Lots of smiles all around. read more

I've been to many drop zones looking for the skydiving experience. The staff here is very friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The views of the Royal Gorge are amazing, consider it a scenic tour up to your skydiving exit altitude. As for the guy complaining about a broken tail bone. Those are the inherit risk we place our selves in when we involve high risk activities. The tandem instructor was correct to have you land on your bum. You see if the wind is "flat" or zero mph, the canopy can't create enough "lift" prior to landing. It would be dangerous to land on your feet with two people trying to run in unison harnessed together. If there is enough of a head wind then that is the decision of the tandem master to have you land on your feet. read more

Let me start by saying, for my and my husband's first jumps ever, I can not recommend this place enough. If I could give 6 stars, I would. My husband and I were visiting our family in Denver (we live in Maryland) and our 1 year wedding anniversary just happened to land in the middle of our week with family. I started researching places to skydive a month in advance thinking it would be a great way to celebrate. I called and talked to a lot of places, but none made me feel as comfortable as Out of the Blue. Misty was the one who helped answer all my questions and walked me through what to expect. She was so patient with me and didn't brush off any of my fears, just explained everything point, by point. Phone customer service was fantastic. When we got there the day of our jump we were helped immediately by two very friendly and helpful desk staff. My husband and I had already completed our waivers ahead of time so we just had to pay for the jumps and photo packages. The waiver also included a video which went over all the risks. After we paid, we were matched up with our guides/instructors. I was matched with Omeid and my husband was matched with Dink. We each had a separate videographer (my guy was Chris and my husband's was Lee). We got harnessed up, went over what we needed to know for the jump, did a pre-jump interview for the cameras, and soon, the plane was back from the first group and ready to take the next jumpers. It was a beautiful day, so there were no delays (although we were ready to be at the hanger for the better part of the day incase we had a weather delay). A group of about 15 of us got on the plane and headed up! The plane was smooth and stable, and there was a lot of camaraderie. A lot of encouragement from the other divers (we were with a bunch of cadets who were all jumping alone, we were the only tandem divers). Once we got to the right altitude, the door opened, my instructor signaled for me to put on my goggles, and it was our turn before I knew it. My husband jumped first which made me freak out a little, but we were at the door and then out of it, before I could panic. Being at the door was the scariest part but once we were in the free fall, and my videographer, Chris, was right in front of me, I calmed down. He was giving me thumbs up and I was able to give him some thumbs up, smiles, and I made a heart for the video. I wasn't expecting how dry my mouth would feel after the free fall and was definitely jealous of the plastic shields all the other jumpers had. My instructor gave me the signal he was opening our parachute and then we were just floating! The chute opening didn't hurt at all! The change in speed was a little disorienting, but I get motion sickness easily, so that felt familiar. Floating down to Earth was one of the most surreal experience I have ever had. My instructor, Omeid, kept everything smooth and gentle all the way down. The far off distance was a little too smoggy to see the mountains, but I wasn't expecting to see them anyway. The skies were a beautiful blue and I had more than enough to take in all around me. As we got to the landing area there was a bunch of Out of the Blue staff to help with the landing. Omeid had me lift my legs and then we softly touched down, with everyone around making sure everything was perfect. My videographer was already on the ground and caught the whole landing. I was very shaky standing up, felt a bit motion sick, and just overwhelmed by the experience. My husband was nearby and came right over for a hug. Wow. I'll admit, I cried a little!! There was a truck waiting for all the jumpers to take us back to the hanger where we had water, chatted with everyone about the jump and took our time coming down from the adrenaline. Nobody rushed us out and everyone was very supportive. We were told our photo and video media would be emailed to us within a few days but it was all ready to view within a few hours! This was awesome customer service. LOVED THS PLACE, LOVED THE EXPERIENCE! Cant say that enough! - Phone customer service: 5/5 - Comfort level with my instructor: 5/5 (my instructor, Omeid, explained everything, made me feel very comfortable, and helped me have a GREAT time!!) - My husband's comfort level with his instructor: 5/5 (my husband's instructor was obviously very experienced, skilled, thorough, and dependable but not as chatty as my instructor which for me, may have made me a little nervous. Took the classroom session with Mike who was a great teacher on how the basics of skydiving work. I felt very confident coming out of his class! Completed 1 tandem and 6 instructor jumps. Just had an out of this world experience with Out of the Blue skydiving! We (the bf and I) bought livingsocial deals for a tandem jump. It's a little out of the way (Fremont County Airport and behind another skydiving company), but it's pretty worth it. You get amazing views, fly over the Royal Gorge (that looks so tiny up that high!), and why not make a day trip out of being in Colorado Springs? Everyone there was super accommodating and helpful. The bf originally did not want the video/photo package, but last minute decided he wanted one, as well. They were super nice about the change in plans (having to take both of us separately). Both instructors (John and Steffen) and the videographer (Peter?) were good with us being newcomers. Their energy is positive and great and they make your experience so much better. And that goes to Kendra and everyone else there. I really did feel like they were looking out for your best interest and comfort. Example: when one of us went up, they were very helpful in letting us know time frame of when the other should be coming down, so we could watch them. They pointed out to us the plane and the canopy to watch for, so we could catch them on our phones for video/photos. Definitely wanting to go again. And with Out of the Blue. No joke. Akash) - don't lift your legs up next time regardless of how you're landing and let's see what you prefer broken. @ people looking for reviews... if you are physically intelligent you will get a good feel of how to position yourself as you land. Kind of like jumping off a swing :) might sound like a trivial analogy in comparison, but you'll have a good feeling of what angle your legs should come in at, bending your knees, force of impact blah blah. This place is great, and that's coming from a first-timer at this location, but seasoned tandem skydiver. what I can I say other than I can't say no to friends who want to give it a go? My partner and I had an absolutely STELLAR time jumping with Out of the Blue this weekend. The staff was friendly, personable, and eager to share the sport they so clearly love. Both the instructors we had were experienced and knowledgeable, which helped calm the nerves of this first-timer. The small company size means we got excellent, personalized service. The small plane held just the four of us (my partner and I along with our two tandem instructors) and the pilot, which absolutely made the jump feel like a special, private excursion. Out of the Blue was DEFINITELY worth the two-hour commute from Denver - which was filled with gorgeous scenery and easy to drive. The view was topped off when our pilot took us over the Royal Gorge before we jumped out at 11,500 feet. I found myself giggling in excitement as my instructor took us on spiral turns under canopy, after an exhilarating 40 seconds of freefall, careening toward the earth at 120 mph. I could not have asked for a better first-time experience, and will be back just as soon as my bank account permits. I hate giving low rating for an otherwise great skydiving experience, but for me this turned out be a pain in the ass, literally. Yes, I ended with a broken tailbone. I agree with others that instructors and staff are super friendly and great people but I am positive (and glad) that none of the other reviewers got injured. My whole experience was great, until the landing part. During my first ever skydive tandem jump, I was told to lift my legs up when landing on ground and I did, and landed on my ass, resulting in tailbone injury. I am still not sure what went wrong. We did not land walking/running or ground or even sliding in. The wind was flat or instructor wanted to land right in front on the office location so we can straight down instead of sliding into ground, either way my legs were up and I landed on my ass. It was very painful and even though I was able to walk and drive immediately after landing, I had to go see doctor after a week of pain and sitting-discomfort, where they x-ray-ed and told me I have broken my tailbone. FYI- This was last August 2012 and after months of pain/discomfort, visits to doctors, I am still 'recovering', while using tush-cush for sitting at work/home/car/flights and seeing chiropractor twice a week because the impact reduced the (normal) gap between my sacrum and L5 (lumbar vertebrae 5). Of course there is nothing I can do about this, since you pretty much sign the 'death-waiver' before doing any adventure sport. And the tailbone takes forever to heal. I am sure this was a rare incident, and honest mistake from instructor. I hope no one else gets injured and make sure you confirm/ask the 'landing plan' clearly with your instructor before getting in the plane. read more

My experience completing a tandem jump was fabulous. Kendra, John, Stefen and their family members were great. They were each very personable and you can tell they take pride in what they are doing. I would recommend this company for jumpers of all experience levels. First jump or looking to get certified, this is the place for you. I don't recommend many things on Yelp; usually, I'm only inspired to write when I'm really cheesed off about something substandard or awful. But "Out of the Blue Skydiving" gets a solid AAAAA+++++ from me in every single thing they do. The price is very competitive, but when you do something like this, it's safety and professionalism that you should be shopping for the most, and these folks deliver all of that and do it in real style. I purchased a LivingSocial deal to do a tandem jump here for $100. From my first call to Kendra to several follow up calls to arrange all of the details for our 6-person group, her and the other staff were very friendly, accommodating, and successfully calmed the nerves of the first-times. When we arrived to the hangar (about 2 hours from Denver), she greeted us right away and got us set up signing waivers. There was only a few minutes for us to lock valuables in the car and have a final drink of water before the first two divers in our group were being suited up and briefed on the jump. The safety instruction was clear and reassuring, and the pep talk was just what we needed! It only took about 15-20 minutes to get suited up. Next thing you know we were on the back of a truck being taken over to a tiny (and I mean tiny) plane on the air strip nextdoor. Besides the pilot it was just 2 tandem divers (with instructors) at a time in the plane. Plus a videographer for one of us who ordered one. So it took our group of 6 people 3 separate trips to all do our dives. (we were there from 9am until about 12:15 because the staff kept us moving at a good pace.) Of course this is not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for a thrill and a challenge, this is a great group to trust with your safety and comfort. 20 minutes up in the plane, 45 seconds of INSANE free fall, and 7 or 8 minutes coasting down over the gorgeous mountains. Everyone in our group had a completely smooth dive and landing. I had a REALLY GREAT experience here, and would highly recommend this life changing experience to anyone! read more

I would advise people to go somewhere else. Me and my friend made an appointment for 1pm and didn't get up in the plane until around 3pm. Nobody there really told us what was going on while we just stood around. The jump was awesome but that exhilaration really had nothing to do with the company. I am 6'4" and they paired me up with an instructor who was no taller than 5'8". So when we came in for the landing, me getting my feet up higher than his was difficult so we had a little crash landing because I put my feet down before the instructor. It was my fault but the landing was actually fun and we didn't get hurt. We all had a good laugh about it. I asked the photographer if he got the landing because I really wanted it in the video. He said he did. I paid $90 for the video/photo package and was really excited to see the crash landing we had. Boy was I disappointed. The landing was nowhere to be found. So I called up Out of the Blue and asked if they could redo the video so I could get the landing in there. They said they would "look at it". Well, the next day I got a call back and they said they were not going to put it in because it made me and them look bad. After a little bit it was obvious they were just worried about themselves looking bad and would not edit the video with the landing. They also would not refund some of the money for not doing a complete job on the video. I felt it was a completely reasonable request to have the landing in the video. I will not go back to Out of the Blue and hope people will rethink using them as well as they will not give you the best product that you pay for. And skydiving isn't cheap. read more

My wife took me skydiving for my birthday and she loved the reviews she read for Out of the Blue Skydiving. We came down from Denver and checked in, we did the normal death waiver, watched a video, paid, and then watched the skydivers until we were called to be fitted for our harnesses. We both got the video/photography package and met with our tandem instructors. The gal who fitted us with our harnesses was knowledgeable and friendly. We met our tandem instructors and videographers next. Everyone was phenomenally friendly and enthusiastic. The tandem instructors kept us informed on what was coming next and made sure we were at ease. The free fall was incredible, the 360's and S turns gliding down were tons of fun! We'll make the drive down to Out of the Blue Skydiving in the future rather than going somewhere "closer" to us next time. We just loved our experience here! read more

What an amazing experience Out of the Blue Skydiving offers. I purchased a tandum jump for the entire family for Christmas. We all went out together. Safety first. Confidence in the Staff. Calm, cool, collected. That's what I want when I trust my life to someone else and that is what they delivered. We were Groupon customers, and of course worried that perhaps we shouldn't have been bargain hunting when it comes to jumping out of a plane. But we LOVED our experience at Out of the Blue! They didn't hurry us or treat us differently because we used a Groupon, and the whole staff was relaxed and friendly, while also conveying confidence and rigor and safety in all of their procedures. I just finished my AFF Level 1 course and this was my first real sky dive. Was terrified!!!! The instructors, class teacher, owner, and everybody on their crew is more than helpfull on everything I needed too know to do this jump right and safely. They also know they how to calm you down for your first jump. Everything was explained and drilled through my head before the jump. I did not pick it up the first day so I went home and studied pratice skills for a week and jumped today 9-7-13. I did ok with just a few minor issues. LOVED IT! My fiancé and I came from Michigan to visit some friends and we got this crazy idea to check off some bucket-list items. Out of the Blue was the best skydiving experience. We had great weather and ended up getting into the air so super fast, we didn't even have a chance to second guess what we were doing. I jumped with Doug, who was so laid back and easygoing, but also professional and meticulous. I went in extremely nervous, but we all left amazed at how SAFE we felt through the whole experience. The only time I felt truly terrified was watching the god-awful manufacture's video before the jump (sorry guys, I know you have to show it). But then as soon as we started suiting up, everyone was getting pumped up and excited, and it was hard to not feel like this is just something they do every day- it's like second nature to most of these guys. You can also tell that everyone it watching out for each other- checking on each others' gear on the plane, etc. We joked later in the week that we felt more unsafe riding the gondola's at the Royal Gorge than we did jumping out of an airplane. i am a 79 year old male who since june 2016 have made 16 tandem jumps. i did not skydive until age 78. a mistake on my part as i should have done it fifty years ago. my 17th tandem jump was my first with out of the blue skydiving. my instructor was dink. even though after making 16 prior tandem jumps, dink was very thorough in explaining to me what to expect and the jump with him was fantastic. the staff are friendly and very professional. kendra and john are to be admired for being owners of this company. needless to say i will continue to skydive(tandem only) hopefully in to my eighties. victor gelner read more

I love loved loved my very first experience tandem-sky diving. I called to set up my appointment and without any quibbling whatsoever, I was told that they would honor my expiring amazon deal to enable me to use it when it was convenient for me to schedule my jump. I learned after the fact that John - that nice guy who came and chatted with us for a while - was actually the co-owner. I had made one phone call to schedule, which was returned by Kendra. I could go on and on. They are professional and very safety oriented. Definitely in the business to make this as fun an experience as they know it to be. We drove for over two hours to get there, but I am certainly going back. My tandem guy was terrific. Very calm and confidence inspiring. I am definitely going back to Out of the Blue Skydiving.
