This year, my husband surprised me with a balloon ride for my birthday, and it was, hands down, the coolest day! Jeff is an incredible balloonist who treated us as friends from the beginning. He let us do a lot of the work that comes with setting for the flight while teaching us, and making sure we understood what we were doing. After take off, we spent an hour cruising through the skies, and Jeff taught us all about the atmosphere layers and told us incredible stories of his balloon adventures. He was quick to let us in on the action, and often offered up his hand in photographing moments I would have missed otherwise. After we landed and drove back to our launch site, we spent some time celebrating our successful flight but popping champagne and enjoying time as friends. He was even kind enough to make me a "balloon" out of the cork and cap! I couldn't have asked for a better first ride through the sky, and can't wait to see Jeff in further expeditions.

I am someone who is typically a little scared of heights, but I was totally fine on the balloon. It's very stable and not shaky at all. I loved the T-shirt and a little bottle of champagne we got at the end. Our guide, Ed, was fantastic at explaining what we were looking at and the mechanics of the balloon. I will say, you might get a better experience if you go in the summer because there will be more foliage etc. to look at, but it was still a nice time even though we went in the winter. You are not really that close to the mountains but it's still a nice view. If you do go in the winter, I would highly suggest having something to cover your ears and bringing gloves.

However, I must say, I enjoyed EVERY second of this trip and I would definitely go back if the opportunity ever arises. Adventure Balloon Sports was very professional throughout this whole experience- from the booking to timely follow up email, to clearly locating the crew in the morning, to driving us back from the landing site, to just basic conversation. I was overall very impressed. And, more importantly, our pilot, Colin, seemed very experienced and skilled at his craft. He was more than willing to answer any questions we had about the dynamics of ballooning and was personable while manning his station and giving us an awesome flight. The experience itself was something I'll never forget. We hit 2300 feet that morning and the sites were incredible. The basket was very peaceful and didn't make me nervous at all. I will say though I would not want to be in here with more than 10 people though- it was cramped!! Also, I feel like Adventure Balloon Sports really went above and beyond just the normal experience. They provided a delicious breakfast and coffee set-up when we arrived in the morning and then also had mimosas and snacks when we returned. When considering the importance of profit margin within a business this is definitely something that earns my respect. The staff was young, but very courteous and friendly. The owner Kevin even stopped by at the end of the trip to introduce himself. This was my first balloon ride and let me say that I had high expectations…read more They were definitely surpassed starting with the crew and pilot we were greeted with a warm welcome and some delicious fruit and granola breakfast (how perfect for boulder). When we were ready to launch they got everyone involved which made the experience that much better. Fortunately we picked a day that had beautiful weather so Colin the pilot was able to take us up past 4,000 ft above our launch site.... It was high considering there was nothing between me and the ground besides a wicker basket. Touching down in between some houses and power lines I would say the crew was very talented. I would recommend ABS for any balloon trips.

I love ascending whether by car, tram, train, funicular, or airplane!…read more I had this experience on my list of things to do while on vacation when we visited the Rocky Mountain National Park. We finished taking the scenic drives around RMNP and went into Estes Park. I suggested we take the tram up the mountain before dinner. We arrived at the lower terminal. There's a parking lot available to park in for a fee. Handicap Parking is free. We went inside and bought our tickets for $35.96 each. There was no line to board the tram, so we went on out to the loading area. There's a gift shop here you can visit before going up. It is highly recommended to have a reservation (purchase tickets in advance)! Prices vary depending on day of the week and time. If you are a walk-in, the time slot you want may be sold out and you'll have to select an available time. Each tram accommodates 10 people. We had the car to ourselves along with the tram attendant. She was very friendly and we had a nice conversation. She lets riders in and out of the tram. The ride is fairly short (5 minutes each way) even though the tram doesn't travel terribly fast. There's an elevation gain of 1,029 ft. The upper terminal sits at 8,619 ft. This is a very smooth ride. The windows of the tram were wide open, which was great! At the upper terminal, there is an observation platform with telescopes, gift shop, picnic areas, restrooms, cafe, and a trail to the West Summit. The trail is .75 miles one way and is supposedly a fairly easy hike. There's a machine that spins fresh cotton candy and I had to try it! We bought a small bag of peanuts to feed the chipmunks, but it seemed like the birds got most of them. The view is breathtaking! We left the top around the golden hour and it was awesome! This was a serene way to enjoy nature!
