I did both and now have a wonderful memory of my friend's visit and a great day at Columbia Road. Can't wait for the proper pictures to appear on the website on Wednesday. The gallery itself is very tucked away, if you think you're walking down the wrong street (past the Royal Oak pub on the corner of the flower market), you aren't you just haven't walked far enough yet. Every Sunday, Seamus Ryan opens up his studio. Which isn't a hugely novel thing to do at first glance. But then you realise that he takes photos of everyone passing through. Tourists and nosy people can then buy the prints after seeing them on the website later in the week. Brilliant. Yesterday he took photos of the contents of my handbag. Random. The portraits in the gallery are gorgeous. His print of Tom Stoppard (who popped in with his grandkids) is now in the National Portrait Gallery. The gallery is light and airy and interesting. It's also well air conditioned which is very handy to escape the sunshine for a little while and recover from flowery sneezes you'll get wlaking through the market. So go and be nosy and be in a photo project. They change every week so you know you'll be doing something new each time. Much more interesting than Smallville reruns on the telly.

We were very disappointed with the photos we received from Samuel Da Silva for the following…read morereasons: 1) It took about 45 days for our wedding photos to be provided to us. 2) We were promised 400 photos but received less than the number agreed to. Instead, he tried to make up numbers by providing us the same photos in black and white, in addition to colour. 3) A large number of the photos taken both indoors and outdoors were overexposed. Most of the the lighting issues could be fixed relatively easily with software, available free online. While we're not experts, it took is very little time to fix these lighting errors ourselves. What is disappointing is that he did not take the time to fix these himself, even though he was late in delivering the photos. It seemed that he had just downloaded the photos from the camera's memory card to CD. Overall we received amateurish photos and we would not recommend him to our friends.

I'm lucky that this place is just up the road from my office so any passport or visa photos are easily done. Just tell the photographer what you are applying for - you'll get a quote for the number of photos you'll get and the price. Not only does this place cater to the ppl who don't care to get into the details of photo measurements, the qualities of the photos are really good - compare to the ones you'll get at places like snappy snap. There is proper studio lighting equipment and the best is that the photographer takes a number of photos and lets you chose which one you like the most before it gets printed. There are too many times where you take photos like this and may go... ick. Now, don't ask for 20 retakes but it is okay to ask to retake just a couple more if you'd like. The place could get busy during lunch time so I'd recommend going maybe a little bit before or after.

That would be 5 cm by 5 cm, not including white boarder, you'll want to remove your glasses, no smiling..." They're located down the first flight of steps into Charing Cross station. Service was really fast - the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. They have a small studio set up with proper lighting, backdrops and a high-end Nikon digital camera. They do 'professional / business photographs' so if you're looking to upgrade your picture on linkedin to something a bit more professional - since really that old picture of you slightly drunk at a cousin's wedding isn't really sending quite the right message to clients / employers - I'm sure these guys would do a great job. Hands down the best part of this place is that they share a space with a candy store - huge selection of sweets including many hard-to-find American candies. I happily ate an entire box of Mike & Ikes while my pictures were printing. Brilliant.
