Ever since I first found out about Sky Combat Ace, it had been sitting firmly on my bucket list. Years ago, I even bought myself a gift certificate for their San Diego location, but that location unfortunately closed - apparently because inconsistent weather kept causing flight cancellations. I had made several trips to Las Vegas since then, but somehow never managed to fit it in. Until this past weekend. The staff was helpful and proactive in locating my reservation from years ago, transferring everything into their newer system, and getting my appointment handled without any drama. They even honored the package pricing from then... I booked the first flight of the morning, which turned out to be the perfect choice in the Vegas heat. There was no crowd, no rush, and the weather was great. The experience itself was an absolute blast and did not disappoint. I was grinning cheek to cheek the entire time. After seeing the video, my family and friends said I looked more hyped than scared. Granted, I have done tandem paragliding, heli-skiing, bungee jumping from what was then the world's highest jump in Queenstown, and tandem skydiving more than once. Still, this was completely different, and easily one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. My pilot was Christian, and he was professional, friendly, helpful, and incredibly encouraging. I took the stick for five maneuvers: an aileron roll, barrel roll, loop, hammerhead, and tail slide. Yes, I was basically LARPing as a stunt pilot, and I loved every second of it. I also added the Advanced Maneuvers and Bombing Run packages for $150 each. We even did an 8G turn! After experiencing that, I have a whole new appreciation for the high-G climb scene in Top Gun: Maverick. It looks cool on a screen, but feeling that force against your entire body is something else. I also opted for the $299 Editors add-on, which gives me the raw video files. After editing the footage with a couple of the well-known Top Gun scores, using the anthem for the maneuvers where I had the controls and, of course, "Danger Zone" for the advanced maneuvers and bombing run. I ended up wanting to watch Maverick all over again! Instead of posting mostly photos with this review, I decided the videos would tell the story much better. This is absolutely a must-do experience, especially for anyone who has ever dreamed of flying aerobatics or wondered what it feels like to be inside one of those crazy movie maneuvers. Before you spend thousands of dollars with Sky Combat Ace, read this review. I strongly advise anyone considering this experience to think twice. I spent over $5,500 on what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime 50th birthday gift and walked away feeling that the reality fell far short of the premium image the company promotes. I don't normally leave reviews like this, but after everything that happened, I think future customers deserve to know what my experience was actually like. The first red flag was the pre-flight briefing. I expected some level of personal interaction, an opportunity to ask questions, and proper preparation before getting into an aerobatic aircraft. Instead, I was shown a short video and essentially left on my own. For an experience costing thousands of dollars, it felt surprisingly impersonal. After that, photos were taken with the aircraft and pilot. When I finally received them, several were noticeably out of focus. That may sound like a small detail, but when you're paying premium prices for a premium experience, these details matter. I also paid approximately $500 extra for the highest-level video and telemetry package. One of the telemetry displays included in the footage is the G-force indicator, which should be one of the most interesting parts of an aerobatic flight recording. Unfortunately, throughout the video, the G-meter does not appear to function correctly and never provides meaningful data. Paying extra for advanced telemetry and then receiving footage with a non-functioning G-force display was extremely disappointing. During the flight, I became airsick and the experience had to be cut short. I fully understand that safety comes first and I do not blame the pilot for returning early. However, I did ask whether any partial refund, credit, or accommodation was available since a significant portion of the experience was not completed. The answer was simply no. What frustrated me even more was everything that happened afterward. I waited more than two weeks for the photos and videos I had already paid for. During that time, I had to call multiple times just to get updates. Communication was poor, and it often felt as though nobody really cared once the payment had been collected. When the files were finally delivered, some of the download links didn't even work at first, leading to more delays and more follow-up on my end. What bothers me most is not that mistakes happened. Any company can have delays or technical issues. What bothered me was the overall lack of attention to the customer experience from start to finish. For more than $5,500, I expected a professional briefing, high-quality media, working telemetry, timely delivery, and responsive customer service. Instead, I received a minimal briefing, delayed media delivery, broken download links, several unusable photos, a malfunctioning telemetry feature in a paid premium package, and little interest in addressing legitimate concerns afterward. This was a gift for my 50th birthday. It was supposed to be one of the highlights of a milestone celebration. Instead, it became one of the most disappointing customer experiences I can remember. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Sky Combat Ace, especially at the price they charge. read more

The most incredible thing about this experience to know is that it isn't a passive joy ride, but an active experience where you take over control of the plane and fly the plane for 60-90 seconds, for three rounds, as you engage in an actual dog flight with another plane and participant! Get the dog fighting package. You do that three times, and actually get to fly the plane yourself for 3-5 minutes. It's wild. These planes are capable of 10G, F16s can only do 9G. They were built to simulate experience for fighter pilots. Flying the plane is the best. You will never get a chance to do this anywhere else, since it doesn't exist. The "bombing run" through Red Rock canyon is unreal too. Doesn't seem like these planes should be able to do the things they can do on any axis on the sky. Total paradigm shift in the mind when you are accustomed to driving a car on a flat surface. Tip: I was worried about the motion sickness, but took a couple of Meclizine pills an hour before which I recommend, especially if you are going for the hard core experience. Pilots can sense your limits though and keep things at the intensity level you request. read more

Set my wife up for an aerobatics ride along so this review is based on her experience. Overall, she had a great time with her ride along and add on additional aerobatics experience. Staff and facilities were great, and they are located at the North Las Vegas Airport. Overall, it was a very thrilling and fun experience for her. Her only negative comment was that her flight was scheduled for 11am and she showed up at 1030am as required, however, she waited over 2 hours and 15 minutes before she finally got up in the air and was really not provided any reason while she was waiting for the delay (she was thinking they may have been short either a plane or pilot). By far the BEST experience we have ever had, apart from the first time we did this 10 years ago of course The communication and organisation was spot on from the start. Jackie the driver was knowledgeable and friendly, and the transport was clean and comfortable. Josh my pilot, was awesome!! Huntley, aka $ store Tom Cruise was Helens pilot was awesome too!! The pilots are so talented and I am in awe of them being able to do the tricks they do. Incredible work! It was amazing from start to finish and we will definitely be booking again when we return next year. Highly recommend you buy the footage as that has been well worth it for the laughs it has given us. We still watch the videos back and cry with laughter at the g force pulling my face off. We arrived and the facility was well equipped, similar to a military squadron. Flight suits and patches were provided and my fiance, of course, picked my name tag per tradition. I met my pilot, Sandman and he provided the safety brief which was very thorough and put me at ease! Soon, we were in the air doing crazy acrobatic maneuvers and got to pull some G's! Super fun flying with Ian, callsign "Tectonic." You will never encounter G loads like this again unless you sign up for another ride. Ian was very friendly and made sure I was doing fine. Two suggestions for new SCA copilots. 1. Be sure to get the headphones with a chin strap. My didn't have a strap and kept falling off every time we went inverted. 2. Even if you're cold, do not close the air vents. I closed the vents and the exhaust fumes were almost overwhelming. Finally, if you're a tall guy like me you will struggle to keep your feet off of the rudder pedals. If you are a pilot, be sure to bring your logbook. WOW! Hands down the experience with Sky Combat Ace was remarkable! I booked the Afterburner Experience and did the extra Red Rock experience add on. We had their shuttle service pick us up. Clean, comfortable, great ride, good communication on pickup. Our shuttle driver, Cavan, was the first person for us to meet from Sky Combat Ace and he made a great impression. My husband bought the trip for me as a birthday gift and I don't know how he's ever going to top it. They picked us up at our hotel in Vegas and it was about 20 minutes to get out to the small airport. They give you a pre-flight demo and while you're waiting, there is a nicely-appointed waiting area stocked with sodas and snacks. Tex, the owner, was our pilot. "AFTERBURNER FLIGHT " ... it's a flight you can "FLY YOUR PLANE", take control and Maneuver it with the supervision of course of a Highly trained Pilot. When it's my son's turn to fly, we are greeted by a very nice Pilot. The FIRST thing we did was go to the briefing room with our Pilot where we watch the Safety and Rules while Flying. I was too nervous while my son was getting ready and my son was just relaxed and have this big smile like he is so excited about it. We watch them start flying out until they just disappeared from our sight. A couple of hours later they came back and my son start talking about the different kinds of Exhibitions they did. My 'wingman'/copilot Caroline is a consummate professional who explained everything to me, told me what we were doing, let me take the controls (not just a quick turn, but several- I was doing the dogfighting and my turn at aerobatics) and helped me to get my first air-to-air 'kill'. I had so much fun today! Huntley was my pilot/instructor. Super cool dude, great pilot, and it was such a fun coincidence that he studied law and I'm currently practicing California law. This program is expensive on paper. But in reality it's worth every penny because it truly is a once in a life time experience. The staff is super friendly, they let you kick back and relax for as long as you need to pre and post flight, so don't be afraid to come early. Overall, if you're local or visiting Vegas, buy the experience! Just do it! In our field we call this an abnormally dangerous activity... but don't be a wimp. Go! I didn't catch the photographers name or the guy that drove us to the plane but they're awesome as well! They're all so personable and make the overall experience comfortable from the beginning. I flew with Axel. He's great, funny and informative. I was nervous about all the "what ifs" and he went over safety with me again, so I felt better. The moment we took off, I wasn't scared anymore. The pilots will talk to you the whole time and share in your excitement. It was an experience that I've wanted to do for years. The absolute best time I have ever had! I have been cliff diving, bungee jumping, sky diving and none of those will compare to flying these planes! My friend and I did the Sky Combat Laser Tag option where we got to fly the plane ourselves and shoot each other down like laser tag! To say this was a memorable experience as an understatement. I have been up in a P51 Mustang, pits, L29, and numerous other high-performance aircraft. The extra 330 is beyond belief. One word of advice, if you chew tobacco, spit it out before you go up or else you will get sick. Initially we flew through red rock Canyon and performed some basic aerobatics which was simply stunning and breathtaking. As an aircraft owner and student pilot, you can see the safety margin the pilots set prior to executing maneuvers when in proximity of each other. I learned a ton About aerodynamics and most importantly accelerated stalls. It is very difficult to explain until you actually perform them and understanding that a wing can stall at any speed. My pilot allowed me to perform some stall recoveries which is very important when you're learning to fly as the FAA no longer requires stalls as part of the curriculum. But, to take the controls, perform hammer heads, tail slides, aileron rolls, barrel rolls, etcetera, is a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you are contemplating doing this, I would highly recommend doing it expeditiously. The first question I asked of the facility, how in the heck do you guys get insurance? They just laughed and said it's super super expensive. One for the books, thank you to sky combat ace and the entire team, it was utterly professional from start to finish. read more

A very unique experience and one I highly recommend. Caroline was the pilot I was paired with and she was amazing. Super kind, supportive, and patient. Everyone I interacted with there was very nice and helpful and they are very responsive to emails. Writing this review to give a few pointers 1. Do the red rocks add on. It is well worth it. The views are incredible and you are actually flying through the canyons. It feels like you can touch them you are so close. I have taken a helicopter ride over red rocks and it doesn't even compare. 2. If you think you will get motion sickness you WILL. I have never had an issue with planes/cars/any rollercoasters/bungee jumping but did feel queasy after skydiving. I took Dramamine the night more and morning of in addition to a light breakfast (as recommended on their website) and still got sick during the flight. They give you barf bags and Caroline was very patient. If you are prone to motion sickness I would recommend sticking with the basic maneuvers (as opposed to adding the advanced maneuver add on) as even during these the g force is intense. Going off of this this activity wipes you out/you feel exhausted afterward. They tell you not to have any big plans later in the day and to take a nap if needed. So just know when planning your trip that this is your activity for that day. 3. The video with the speed/g forces included is worth it. It is very expensive but nicely edited and for most people it's a once in a lifetime experience. read more

So I wanted to surprise a friend who had always wanted to be an air force pilot. Due to an injury he was unable to ever try and pursue a career in the Air Force so I found this while I was looking for a present for him. He had no idea I'd booked this for him. I originally booked the recon package for him but once we got there and I realized things were a la carte I added the afterburner to his package. He was so excited about it all when we got there. He got a flight suit and took some pictures and checked out everything in the hanger. The guy that explained everything and was the pilot that was taking him up was really chill and laid back. Honestly even though he ended up puking from the awesomeness of it all he told me it was one of the best experiences he's ever had. He's currently sleeping off his nausea because we were dumb and ate a huge breakfast before not even thinking of if it'd be a good idea or not....but regardless it's a must do. I'm shocked that they don't have a great following on social media because it really is so fucking fun and something you just have to cross off the bucket list. read more

Yesterday, I did my second flight with Sky Combat Ace. It was the Afterburner in an Extra 330 plane. The flight was amazing! I had the good fortune to have Buzz as my pilot. He has many years of experience and after each maneuver, he checked with me to see how I withstood the G force. Knowing everything was fine, he pushed the envelope a bit more with a more extreme roll. And he checked with me, and then we did something more extreme, and so it went for about 25 minutes. What an adrenaline rush! We ended up experiencing G force that ranged from 7 to -2. On my two flights which Sky Combat Ace, I have been very pleased by their professionalism, their attention to detail, the reminder phone calls the day before, allowing me to reschedule when something came up--in short a very cooperative company. The hangar is spotless and the planes are in excellent condition. Do yourself a favor. If you like adventure, leave the tables for awhile and go to the Henderson Executive Airport and give this a go. Me and my son spent his 16th birthday on a flight in March. Overall, the support staff and pilots were 100% professional. From check-in, preflight and in the air, the operation was a well-oiled machine. For us the pricing was upfront. Like any business they will try to upsell for longer flight time and 360 videos of your experience. But those were optional and different for each person. But there was zero pressure to go one way or another. In our group of 6 half bought add-ons, half did not. They give you the option, and then that's it. North Las Vegas airport is at the base of the mountains and we spent less than 1 min waiting for takeoff clearance and within 3 min of takeoff we were straight into maneuvers. You do have flight controls, and can steer as much or as little as you want. I did zero and just held on. Your headset is also connected to the other planes in your group so you can talk in flight with just pushing a button. EPIC!!! This was by far one of the most epic experiences of my life. Actually being able to perform a barrel roll and compete in the dog fighting was something I will never for get. Combined that with the low level flying in Red Rocks Canyon just outside Vegas was EPIC!! "Tex", and "FNG Josh", you guys are badasses!!
