This is a unique location, right in the mountains outside Santa Fe. It's an open-air theater with a beautiful southwest and modern design. Getting there and parking is easy considering how many people there are. There's shuttles to help get you around or you can walk. There are people to help you find your seat. The seats are comfortable and there's small screens with translations for you. Restrooms, concessions, gift shop were all good too. Overall, a great time and I'll definitely go again.

I was so glad that I was able to attend this event thanks to tickets that were a Yelp Elite Perk…read more The Bonanza Movie Ranch has been on my list of things to check out, and it was a fun, albeit windy location for this inaugural event. I liked how each building had the separate tastings that included not only whiskey but other spirits, as well as mixed drinks for purchase. A friend and I got there at the beginning and were able to take advantage of light crowds and short lines. As the day wore on, lines definitely got longer. Entertainment was fun, with a live band and some hokey cowboy shootouts. Event goers also got some food that was good, if a little sparse. There was also a food truck for those seeking other things to eat. I would change a couple of things for next year. Figure out a more consistent line cue for the tastings vs. going to buy a drink. In some buildings, you had to go through the tasting line even if you simply wanted to buy a drink or a bottle. This was pretty awful when the lines were long. Also, while the food was pretty good, it could have been done a bit better, more of a presentation. There should also be more activities, give people a reason to stick around longer. Frankly, we were pretty much done with everything after the first couple of hours. I'm sure for those who paid for tickets, the expectation is to get the most out of the event. Lastly, because the event is at a historic movie ranch, an activity should really beefy that aspect up, such as walking tours of the property. Some of the buildings had signs that talked about some movies/programs that had been filmed there, but it wasn't much info. All in all, though, I was appreciative of getting to attend such a unique event.

The Bonanza…read moreCreek Movie Ranch was on our list to visit and we were so excited to make that happen, especially being able to enjoy some local spirits. The set up was nice in that the vendors had locations in the set buildings. We got there at the very beginning and had no problems moving in and out of the buildings tasting the various products. By about 2 hours into the event, it was more crowded and lines formed into the buildings for the tastes. Even if you are not a whiskey fan, there was wine and some liqueurs offered along with a fill bar in the Saloon. We spent about 4 hours there and enjoyed the complementary lunch, which was outstanding, the tastings, a couple of cocktails (for cost) and then the fun gun fight. The whole event was great and we can't wait for next year.

Not having been before, I scoured the do's and don't listed on the website. Despite rereading on day of event- there were significant changes made that were not updated on the Zozobra website. No lockers for items not allowed in, bag policy was changed without notification. Once in the venue- certain areas were not clearly marked (beer garden). Lots of security present- multiple items on the not allowed list seen in the venue. Fireworks and burning were good to see. Need to review the website to ensure accurate information- not wait until people arrive. Honestly, wait to enter until 730pm. Still plenty of time to peruse the vendors, buy merch, grab a spot on the lawn (general admission).

There were just too many people because of the 100th year and attendance should of been limited for safety. We essentially were packed in like sardines and could not move. World Music, as a general rule, endlessly humbles me. I consider myself a pretty eclectic dude when…read moreit comes to personal musical tastes; my ear is willing to bend in plenty of directions, I'm constantly searching out new sounds, as I pen this I'm streaming some pretty edgy progressive stuff. But likely due to my American blood, I really don't have an appreciation for music from, well, anywhere else in the world (save, y'know, foreign artists that compose American music). I definitely have reservations about the World Music genre, I think of sleepy sitar sets, throat singers or the overdose of Manu Chao I endured in the 90's. And it's a shame because, like fútbol, World Music is what the rest of the world is into. I should probably be paying attention. GiG is a venue that supports the local music scene and otherwise focuses on worldly musicians, the kind of people who are out there creating gorgeous, earth shattering sounds which the rest of the world is paying attention to. I managed to catch Makana, a Hawaiian Slack Key guitar legend in his own right, in this tiny garage-turned-jam space. It's sparse and simple, cash only (at the door, only), no booze, seats about 100, and it's the kind of intimate venue I dearly love to be humbled within. Makana was terrific, personable, funny, unbelievably talented, the kind of musician most of America overlooks, mistakenly.
