AMC Classic 12 is located in South Valley, near the busy intersection of Rio Bravo and Coors. Depending on the time of day, the streets can get backed up and congested, usually the work scheduled times between 3pm and 6pm. So, if you're planning on seeing a movie around these time frames, then I'd say, come early. The parking lot is pretty large, so there shouldn't be an issue of finding a place. It's also surrounded by many department stores and restaurants, so finding something to eat nearby isn't an issue as well. The area is pretty safe, and the sheriff's office is one parking lot over, so I don't see any safety issues at all. Plus, they have their security guard outside, if needed. When you arrive at the movie theater, there are 2 order kiosks on opposite sides of the entrance if you want to quickly purchase your tickets or print your tickets, if you're in a hurry. I use their mobile app so it's quite nice and convenient. There is a guided, roped off area (stanchion) at the entrance, which makes getting in line more organized and the cashiers call who's next at the end of the line, if you're an AMC Stubs member, there is a separate line which makes getting to the front quicker and it's definitely worth the skipping ahead time. If you're in a super hurry and need to get to your theater room fast with some food, drinks or snacks, I'd recommend ordering your food/snacks on the app with your movie ticket, as they'll have it ready for you. Just have to read the fine print receipts on the already made food (squinting may be required). It beats standing in line, especially when a large family is in front of you and they aren't prepared on what they want and delays your turn by 5-15 mins. The food is good, the popcorn is fresh, and if you purchase the refillable bucket (30 bucks), you can refill your popcorn for 6 bucks each time, and a same-day free refill for AMC Stubs members (hold on to your receipt). Sodas and frozen Icees are also refillable, which is nice, and there are hundreds of flavor choices/combinations of flavored sodas. Vanilla Sugar-free Barq's Cream Soda is my favorite. Word of advice, the theater rooms marquees do not tell you what's showing in each room (aside from the IMAX room poster), so keep your ticket in hand so you know which room is yours. Seats are first come, first serve, so get there early if you want the perfect spot. The only room that has reserved seating is the IMAX room, and it's the best price in the area - compared to other theaters (normally 10 bucks cheaper) and the picture and sound quality is amazing. I've seen the latest Dune part 2 (7 times so far in this IMAX room). The staff is usually friendly. They are constantly cleaning and refilling their booths and stations. Sometimes, the soda fountain is down, but luckily, there are 6 stations, so finding a drink shouldn't be an issue, plus you can always ask at the counter if you need help. The movie trailers are about 15 to 20 mins long, so if you're running late, just keep that in mind. Unless this is my 7th time for the same movie, I take my time to get snacks and drinks. But if not, then I come early, so I am ready for the entrance line, the snack line, and the drink line. This should be a place to relax and immerse yourself into film and sound, and not a stressful environment, so keep it simple and enjoy cinema. read more

AMC here hovers between a 3 and a 4 for me most of the time. I've only ever seen IMAX movies in AMC theaters, so of course I checked out Dune and Oppenheimer here. I recently found out that Regal Winrock has an IMAX theater too so I may try that one some day, but let's keep focus on AMC. I used to be a Premiere Rewards Member before I moved here, but it slowly became apparent that paying for that membership wouldn't be worth it in Albuquerque. My job doesn't allow enough time to watch enough movies to justify the cost. That, and the location of this particular AMC theater also factored into my decision to not renew. If it was a little closer to the center of Albuquerque, I may have kept the membership. But as it stands, it's a bit far and out of the way. But I will say the IMAX theater is pretty damn worth it. I'll still pay money to come here and watch movies on an IMAX screen because of how immersive it is. I like picking the top, or second from the top row to get the whole screen in my view comfortably. The other thing that really brings my rating for this AMC theater down is the service. If you're a Premiere Rewards Member, there's a separate line to get your tickets and snacks. And that would be pretty nice if there was enough staffing to take advantage of it. Don't get me wrong: it's still faster to go through that line, but they simply do not have enough workers to make it efficient enough. And that leads me to the next problem: for the general public in waiting in line, it's even worse. I think they need to either separate the snacks and the ticket buyer lines, or they need more workers who are dedicate to getting whatever snacks the customer purchases. Because right now, it's 4, maybe 5 employees behind the counter. They'll call up a customer, and then print the ticket and/or get the snacks. But that's so inefficient, because the next customer can't come get their ticket until the employee has found the snack and then rung the customer up. It's extremely inefficient so if you're going to come to a movie during the more popular times, I'd recommend allocating and extra half hour just in case if you don't want to miss previews. Overall, it's a good theater and before today, it was the only IMAX screen I was aware of. I'll still return to this AMC out of loyalty to AMC in general, but if Regal's service is better, I might stick to them and save the extra few dollars on gas going out to AMC 12. read more

We came to see the new Buzz Lightyear movie by Disney/Pixar. The movie was really enjoyable, but when we checked in they did not give us the 3 D glasses to watch the movie. Had to go back to the lobby to get. They were out of almost every candy. They had no French fries and almost everything else. They did have popcorn, Mac and cheese balls, and hot dogs. They had sodas, but the Coke soda machines were out of carbonization. Ugh! No refund on the sodas. The staff was a bunch of useless teenagers that had no interest in really doing their job. They just kept saying they were out of everything, and not inspired to making this a good theater experience. They should have known to give us the 3D glasses when we checked in. I spent over $54 for 4 flat sodas, a small bag of popcorn, 1 hotdog, and a candy! A total rip off. We had purchased the tickets online and they were about $9 each. It was the same price for adults, children, and seniors. Do not rush out to this movie theater. Spend your money elsewhere. Date of visit: June 17, 2021 While some people may think it crazy to spend time at the movies while on vacation, I think it's a great way to see how the locals spend their time and if they have any cool options for entertainment that we don't have back home. Plus most attractions, such as museums, are only open during the day. So you can catch a movie after dinner and spend less time channel surfing back at the hotel! The AMC Classic was a decent theatre. Nothing special, but also not bad. Of course, being a Classic, it didn't have any fancy extras like recliners, but it was clean and seemed to be in decent shape. You could do worse than this location should it be your local theatre. read more

Probably will not be returning. The highlight was the first interaction I had with the kid working at concession, he was nice and polite. No one was checking tickets. Got to my theatre and the seats were not comfortable with quite a few being broken. The restroom was very dirty. At the end at around 7:20pm, I realized I had forgotten to get a receipt from concession. I asked two kids who were outside of concession if that was possible and neither knew, directing me to stand in a line behind 6 groups of people for the one person working concessions so I could ask him. Waited in line and asked once it was my turn. I was basically told that it is impossible for him to print a receipt and made it sound like a large inconvenience as he would have to get his manager and "it's a process." I worked at a movie theatre growing up, an AMC specifically, and there was always a way to print a receipt. In every job I have ever had where there were transactions taking place, there was always a quick and easy way to print a receipt so I am shocked. Upon leaving there were about 10 groups waiting for concession, the one kid doing his best working, one cleaning up the lobby, and two standing around doing absolutely nothing and didn't bother to help him. Overall disappointed as the negatives outweighed the positives at this theatre. Will check out Century next time. read more

If making the movie experience was priority the staff would at-least try to be more effective. And the premium member line added makes things worse.. This is our go to movie theater, it's somewhat new and clean. We went to see Oppenheimer movie at 2:40pm time on 7/21. During the show there was a small spider on projector lens that keep crawling up and down the screen. It was very distracting and no one did anything to move the spider. Loved this place. Hardly any people but lately every one has found it Also with all the people showing up the costumers service went down. We go to the movies often so when they talked us in to the premier package (which you have to pay) which has many benefits like first in service,we were excited. This is a great theater. It seems brand new and is super clean. The chairs are rockers. They aren't the ones that recline but they are comfortable. The theater I sat in was big. The staff is professional. I ordered a gourmet popcorn bucket. It was expensive but I guess that's how all of the theaters are. I asked for the combination caramel, regular and cheddar popcorn. I was given it in layers so all the caramel was on top, then all cheddar then regular. That's an awful way to serve it. Yuck. I tried to mix them up my best. It was $16. Lately, I have not been a fan of going to the movies. The prices, people talking/using their phones/being rude. Dirty theaters... you know, all the not great stuff to run into when you paid a pretty chunk of change to be there. My experience at this theater was completely different. We purchased our tickets online. Upon arrival to the theater, there are signs clearly directing you to a kiosk if you purchased online, or the counter (also concessions) if you need to buy a ticket. We hit up the kiosk, bought our popcorn and drinks, and were in the IMAX theater choosing our perfect seats in no time. We were there to see a movie on opening day, and expected it to be full- as it would be pretty much at any other theater. Nope. There were 20 people, tops. No screaming kids. No one used their phones. No one talked. It was spic and span, the seat wasn't sticky, it smelled nice, and we were comfortable. This was by far, the best movie viewing experience I have had in a long time. I can't wait to go back and watch something else. read more

Definitely exceeded my expectations. I never really understood the bad rep that the South Valley gets from the locals in Albuquerque. As someone who has grown up throughout the Greater Chicago Area, I find the energy of the South Valley to be fine and, in fact, quite normal for an urban area. Anyways, now that I've made my peace in justifying this part of town, I can say that the Carmike Cinema is a great family theater. I came here with my family to see Finding Dory for my little brother's birthday and I have never seen a theater so busy. The space is quite large (about 13 theaters) and there were lines going out the door. Fortunately, there were machines near the entrance in which we could buy the tickets ourselves. Despite the lobby being packed, everything was clean. I'll be returning soon! read more

Carmike Grande Cinema 12 - Albuquerque, NM Ah, this is my favorite little treasure chest gem by our house in the South Valley. It's the only movie theater anywhere close to our house and it's fantastic. It's super new and super clean and I just love literally everything about it. We first came here for Star Wars when it opened back in December. The theater was half empty on a Saturday night and it was awesome being able to watch a just released movie with some peace and quiet. Months later and it is still our favorite place to go now. We bought the awesome bucket (like 25 initially, but makes your refills $4.) For my husband, that's probably his favorite part. He loves theater popcorn, and that initial investment really made all of our purchases this year so far, plus the many more to come, well worth it. Also the fact that you can go butter your popcorn yourself is awesome. They also have coke freestyle machines, which are of course, the new standard for drinks! This theater is getting a little more popular, and I'm glad it is cause I would hate for them to not get enough business that they would have to close or something. But I do enjoy that it's not crazy crowded like other theaters in town. I just hope it keeps this nice middle ground for a long time. read more

Omg...I love our new movie theater! Right down the street from us, very clean, modern and a welcomed addition to the South Valley! I am a little disappointed that it's not very busy though, it feels very empty, like not enough people know about it. I wish they would advertise or something because I'm afraid if they don't get more business they will shut down and that would be terrible. They're screens are huge and seating is amazing, they have self serve drink stations that are really advanced for Albuquerque. My only gripe is if you buy the refillable bucket you can't get unlimited refills on your popcorn like you can with the large popcorn (on the same visit) you have to keep paying the $4 refill fee which doesn't make sense. But overall I love this theater and hope it gets more business and stays around for a long time. read more

I am an AMC Rewards member, the points add up quickly and freebies apply to concession purchases. We had to drive to Winrock or Conttonwood for movies, but AMCs Abq 12 has it all 3D, iMax and Digital. Since I'm retired, morning and afternoon showings are fantastic and light crowds! We just watch standard movies as 3D makes my wife and I throw up, so I can't help you on the quality of that but we come here more than we've gone to other theaters in the past .. it's worth it to watch with our little girl. read more
