Bare Jazz is Scandinavia's biggest jazz music store, providing knowledgeable staff and a good selection. On the second floor there is a small café and bar that serves nice coffee, wine, beer, and some simple cakes and sandwiches (as mentioned before: for a proper lunch you better go somewhere else). And on the secluded yard jazz music is playing all day long, flower pots are blooming and at the first drops of rain big awnings are unrolled. There are plenty of seating outside, but not so many inside. Go here to relax, sip a cup of coffee and listen to John Coltrane doing what he does best. Or bring your laptop and do some work, or your date for that sake! If you're a jazz fan, Bare Jazz is the place for all occasions.

We saw SIX concerts on our recent European mega trip, all in different locations. And (as many of…read moreyou know), we love going to shows and have been to all kinds of concert halls and venues here in the States, but going to rooms abroad was super fun - and Sentrum Scene was our very favorite of the six venues we visited in Europe. Believe me when I say this is a SUPER cool room to see a show in!!!! OK so what makes it cool? The room just looks crazy cool. My husband and his friend rode the rail at this show, so they were right up front. But I don't like to be in the middle of the mosh pit, so I watched the show from the top of the balcony -- and I was treated to a most amazing visual spectacle. Lights in this room just look SICK. The ambiance is enhanced by these crazy round discs that are all over the walls and ceiling. The ones on the wall look like huge discs and the ones hanging from the ceiling look kind of like flying saucers. But when you add show lights to that, against the dark/black ceiling and it all just looks SUPER cool, especially if you are seeing a band with a lighting technician worth his or her salt. Acoustics in this room were also excellent (thank you to all those cool sound discs!) and having the option to be upstairs or down and still have a great view was really wonderful. Staff was generally pretty friendly and I have no complaints. Would love to come back sometime!

The room once we got inside was dirty with cups and straws and just trash everywhere and there wasn't even a lot of people in there to begin with! The Smirnoff ice I got for example just tasted off and old. The effects of the concert were ok, so they got to keep that star. Super cool modern booking system for us foreigners: Order a ticket online, print it at home and they will easily grant you access. There's a good selection of drinks available at the bar - expensive of course as Norway simply always is. But it's worth going: small venue which allows you to watch the stage pretty well, alright acoustics and a funky crowd. As an additional plus the area around is handy for a pre-show drink, too. At 18:00 when we arrived the place was half empty. By the time we were leaving it was packed of people and no shuffleboard tables were available. I think there were 6 tables all in all. So if you want to play, you need to be there early or you need to wait for someone to leave. The game is quite simple in its rules, but very hard to master. It is very hard to control the little round ball called puck. The puck slides very smoothly on the sandy table so you really need to master how much strength you need to use to send it to the other end without it falling off the table. The only negative side to the bar was the price of the beer. However it was a Christmas beer I chose and I guess beer generally in Oslo is expensive. I payed for mine 145nok so I would suggest you to check the price menu before you order. On the bar side there are tables for people to hangout and have a beer. You can sit on the couches that have as a table an electronic game. So while hanging out with your friends one can always play. I definitely suggest Tilt for at least a one time experience to everyone as shuffleboard is a lot of fun!

So I walked inside (yes, admittedly breaking the no-smoking law) and approached the woman tending bar and asked her how I could get a beer. At this point we were both standing about three feet from the open door to the patio. Call me crazy, but I think she should have said, "Please step outside with the cigar, tell me what you want, and I'll hand it to you." Instead she sternly commanded me to leave immediately. Quite rudely. I was going to return later to hear a band but did not.

Contemporary decor and lounge style layout and seating makes this a great spot to hangout with mates and chill. Live Jazz every Tuesday and a very interesting wine and beer list this makes this a perfect alternative to most other bars in the area and the feel here is definitely upmarket. Only called in for one scoop of beer on the way in to town so will need to come back next year and give it the full monty. I am pretty sure I also saw a vinyl deck and as vinyl is the retro comeback King at the mo' I am going to see if they would be up for a spinners night where we can bring vinyl in and let it play. Vinyl UYE anyone?
