I tried the Plum first, and it had the exact flavor profile I was expecting; tart, with a little sweetness underneath. I then got their drink closest to an old fashioned, it had a chocolatey undertone and tasted delicious. It was so good, I have to admit I got a second! Service was outstanding, super friendly staff and it was fun getting to see the magic in action while sitting at the bar. The space is quintessential cocktail bar; dim lighting, music at just the right volume to allow for intimate conversation, and an all around relaxing vibe. So, when I say that Fru Burums is probably the coolest bar I have sat my rump down in pretty much EVER, weigh my impression of the space with those criteria in mind. The space is a very eclectic pastiche of architectural odds & ends that create a neo-victorean meets Vicar of Dibly atmosphere that just quietly awaits a League of Extraordinary Gentlefolk to stroll in and discuss their next quest over absinthe and Guinness. The other patrons seemed to be happy with their beverages at the bar and the bartender did not seem annoyed that I was probably the only one there not drinking alcohol. And she makes a fine pot of coffee, too.
