I felt like the sewing of the arm of my chair could of been a bit nicer..so reached out by phone and asked to email/photos.. it's been almost a month and then I emailed the manager..no response..and maybe they couldn't have done anything about my issue but ignoring me because my item was custom ordered and said final sale...Wow very poor customer service.. Here's a timeline for you... July 11, 2020 - ordered couch October 30, 2020 - couch delivered, during inspection noted throw pillows were missing. January 18, 2021 - asked for update regarding said missing pillows February 28, 2021 - asked for update and ignored March 4, 2021- now asking for further update. IT HAS BEEN 236 DAYS TODAY!!!  Every communication has been initiated by us, not Sklar Peppler.  This is completely unacceptable customer service.  We have paid for our goods and have not received our product.  I expect an answer and the rest of our order by March 12, 2021, before we seek further action. read more

We bought a 3 piece sectional sofa at Sklar Peppler after visiting numerous other outlets, believing the quality and service would reflect the cost difference versus the other furniture outlets. We were wrong. We bought the sofa in February of 2021, and were assured that delivery would be between 12 and 16 weeks MAX. We figured it was a long time but decided to go ahead with the purchase anyways. At about 14 weeks we had heard nothing from them, and so we began to call ourselves. We had a message left stating they're not sure when it was coming, it might be next week. Another 4 weeks passed and still no communication, so now I'm having to call in order to get some answers. Apparently everyone there has "just" started and are trying to clean things up from past employees, literally everyone I spoke to. I believe there should have be some kind of compensation, due to the fact it was 7 weeks over the date they stated as max delivery time. I called on a Thursday, was told a customer service manager would call me on a Saturday, they did not, I called back on Tuesday and was told they would call me right away... they did not. Finally got called back and put on speaker with several people and was told nothing could be done. It was not "their fault" that they A: sold me the sofa, B: manufactured the sofa C: shipped the sofa. There is a pandemic don't you know, which had been raging for well over a year at the point of purchase... who could foresee this? Give me a break, you say shipping was waived, but at no point did anyone say we would have to pay for shipping, as far as we were concerned it was included in the final price. The customer service was abysmal, and the quality does not differ significantly from any other furniture manufacturer. The guy in shipping at least tried. They won't see another dime from me or anyone willing to listen to my experience. read more

We bought a sofa from Skylar 3 1/2 years ago for approx $2,000, and it has been the worst piece of furniture I have ever purchased. It is certainly not the comfort of the sofa we sat on in the showroom. The first year we had customer service in our home many times, we also took the cushions to the store to have the foam replaced because the cushions were too hard - yet when you sit on them they would somehow sink which is stretching the fabric. My husband sits on the sofa, I do not and cannot sit on this piece of uncomfortable garbage and if you try and lay on it - it somehow rolls you off. For months Customer Service talked a lot and tried to appease us with changing out the foam etc but nothing changed. It got to the point that we just let it drop - and the only way we can get any satisfaction is to warn others not to shop there. Update : I have given up on Sklar Peppler. I must think if my $3500.00 custom sofa as an expensive loss/mistake. Word to the wise, do not be impressed by the items in the showroom. You will not receive the product as you ordered. If you order a fabric you will not receive the same quality as what you are led to believe. After many months of trying the only option I had was to accept three replacement casings (there are 6 pulled and snagged) it was the same defective fabric. Never was replacement of the defective sofa even a possibility. I did not receive the quality sofa I payed for in good faith. The staff, most especially customer service, have little to no authority to make things right for the customer even when they see a legitimate problem, which they did acknowledge in my case. My only recourse is to review Sklar Peppler online where I can, as well as no longer recommend this company to my clients. I will watch with anticipation as this company slips into bankruptcy once again, due to their lack of concern for their customers. I am just one person, however I regret not buying from a big box store. Buy from Costco, IKEA, The Bay, based on their ability to honour warranties and stand behind what they sell. I am in the design industry and over the years have sent countless clients to Sklar Peppler, I regret this now! I had two wonderful sofas from them in 2007 (pre bankruptcy) So for my most recent personal purchase I thought of going nowhere else. Boy do I regret this decision. I was not aware Sklar Peppler had gone BANKRUPT and were bought by an American company Alan white interiors. This is no longer Sklar Peppler it is Alan White of the USA (check out their history in depth) it is not Canadian made, in fact i am suggesting it is not even American made. It is my belief that the goods are made elsewhere in the world. There is no identification on my sofa that says "proudly made in the USA" like the Americans always do WHEN THEY MAKE A PRODUCT THEY ARE PROUD OF. If you are going to Sklar Peppler because you think they are reputable, save yourself the money and aggravation. Do your research first, they are owned by Allan White in the USA - look up their reviews and all the horror stories where people have had bad product. My fabric was showing wear within a week, we purchased a $3500.00 sectional we have two clean adults in our home. We have had zero satisfaction from Sklar peppler. I believe they are dragging their heels on this so that we will be out of warranty. Not one person thus far, in the chain of command is able to make a decision on what will happen with our defective sofa. They are still trying to peddle me new cushion covers! The whole sofa is covered in this faulty fabric! My impression is the owners will not give any authority to their staff, they are not empowered with making decisions. They say no and make their employees do their dirty work, by passing on bad news to their customers. I have had some dealings with genuine staff members who would like to help us, and acknowledge that the sofa is prematurely worn, but have proven they have no authority to correct this for us. They need customer service reps that can reverse their failing reputation of bad service. I have even said to the reps I have spoken to that I would look elsewhere for a job and not work for these people. We have even had staff to our home and they have seen the fabric and acknowledge it is not proper wear for a sofa two months old. Apparently they sent a sample fabric to their "mill" aka china, to see if they had had other problems with this fabric. The report came back stating it was not liable to replace the sofa because they detected dog hair on the fabric and a hitch in the fabric apparently this was a sign of abuse. We own a 2.5 pound yorkie that is hypoallergenic, non shedding, and is not allowed on the sofa. Nice try to wiggle out of liability. So who is responsible I ask? Should I just suck it up and stop dwelling on how ripped off I got? I hate to waste money, money doesn't flow like lava but releasing this from my mind is the only way I can free myself from the growing lack of respect I have I have for SKLAR PEPPLER. read more

We've had amazing service from Sklar Peppler. We purchased quite a bit of furniture and the service has been impeccable. One piece required some attention (the piping had come away from the chair cushion.) They made arrangement for an entire new cushion to be made and the arrangements around pick up and drop off were convenient and on time. This is claimed to be the only warehouse outlet for this company, which no longer manufactures furniture at this location. They seem to consolidate all their unsold, overruns, mistakes, undelivered orders, and overstock in this location. The selection is tremendous when it comes to couches and upholstered chairs. All the items are brand new and available at tremendous prices. They also have delivery (for a fee) which is very efficient. The designs are current, traditional and casual. We purchase 2 very oversized armchairs, and 1 love seat in a beautiful microfiber. It is beautifully manufactured, and costs us less than $ 700. I remember this place as I reviewed the Pickering Markets. Its very close to there, and it is definitely worth the drive. They have a knowledgeable sales force, but not the sleazy high pressure furniture store kind. They will help you locate stuff that matches. This is extremely useful as the place is huge. I purchased a couch here in April, but it already looks and feels like it's ten years old. The chaise extension (rarely used) is still firm, while the other cushions sag, and we can often hear the springs twang when we sit down. As well, the back cushions are saggy and cheap-looking. I emailed the store, but heard nothing back. When the couch was delivered, they arrived hours late, then spent a long time having back-and-forth arguments with my husband about whether or not they could park on our street (they could), and saying it was late in the day (their fault) and didn't want to deliver it until the next day. Although we explicitly stated that we live in a third-floor, walk-up apartment when placing our order, the deliverers complained about this and acted like they were doing us a huge favour by doing their job. The customer service at the store was fine, although she said I made a great decision, when obviously I did not. read more

I purchased this chair for 2 reasons. One. My brother bought it and loves it. 2. I have Osteoarthritis in my neck and this chair was supposed to help. I have asked Sklar several times to take the chair back and give me a credit or another chair. They say they have ordered parts and will repair it. I waited 4 months for the chair to arrive and paid up front in full. This chair is no where near the chair my brother has. We purchased a couch set from Sklar as well which they repaired the sofa, properly. But i am not satisfied with this chair and can no longer sit in it as it hurts my back and neck. read more

This would be the second sectional I have purchased from this store and I could not be happier! The first was purchased 10 years ago when the Ajax location first opened, I must say for a 10 year old sectional it is still in excellent shape! I would recommend Sklar Peppler to everyone. As good as the product is from Sklar (we have three sofas, chairs and various other pieces from them), it is the customer service that really sets them apart. Their on-floor staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and their delivery crews have been on time, professional, and really respectful of our home and the space that they have to work in (un-boxing... assembling...). If I can glow a little more about the staff, my wife and I have worked with numerous designers with minimal success. However, the two different designers that we have worked with in helping with the furnishings and décor for two different houses in the last five years, have been spot on in capturing our personalities and style and incorporating that into our space. I was told by the sales staff that sofa would be ready for pickup within 8-10 weeks -however If I chose a type of fabric that factory had plenty in stock then my order would be finished earlier - approx 3-4 weeks. In any case I kept contacting the store during week 3, 4, 5, 6 and finally after 8 weeks - the store confirmed that they had *1 part* of 2 piece sofa ready for pickup which I happily brought home. However the other missing piece is still nowhere to be found. Today (Nov 18) -over 10 weeks later -the sales staff is telling me that computer shows the other piece "being finished" but they cannot tell me when it will be delivered. I have asked them to contact the factory and they say they have no way of contacting them. I am at a point where I am ready to share my story with the local media as this type of customer service is unacceptable. I have *never* had any of my calls returned and I ended up going in person every time I needed an update. How can a furniture store place orders with the factory and yet have no way of contacting them about the orders themselves keeping their customers in the dark? We purchased a Sklar Peppler sofa some 30 years ago, the service and product was excellent. On January 28th 2017 we decided to purchase a sofa and love seat. The rep Janet was excellent showing/telling us the plusses and minuses of the various fabric, samples from which we made a choice and we also upgraded the foam. We were impressed with her skills and personality that helped make up our minds. We live 45 minutes from the Sklar warehouse and were very surprised that because of the distance Sklar unlike other furniture companies does not deliver which required us to rent a truck and get help unloading. That was very disappointing. After notification we picked up the furniture on March 4th and when we unpacked it we noticed that there were 8 legs with 32 Philips screws to be installed with no instructions or pre drilled holes.. If one did not have an electric drill with the right bit you were out of luck. Most disturbing we noted that one pillow on the sofa, one pillow and one backrest pillow on the love seat have what looks like a faint watermarks what to us is definitely a fabric flaw. I called Customer service and I drove down to Ajax to Sklar. I met the customer service rep and after I showed her the fabric flaw she agreed to order 3 new pillow covers. Then she thought to get a second opinion and the other rep could not see the problem and even convince the customer rep that is part of the fabric and not a problem. They then tried to convince me that I am seeing marks that they don't as it is part of the fabric. The sample from which we choose the fabric definitely did not show these marks and the fabric defiantly is flawed. When they make you feel stupid, it was obvious that Sklar does not address product issues and I just walked out discussed and unsatisfied. Should anyone or me consider a future purchase, I think these facts speak for themselves, they are certainly no longer a supplier of choice for me. Henry Hammer read more

Purchasing a couch from this store has been a source of stress for our family. We've been waiting over 3 months for the delivery of our couch (for which we were forced to pay the full amount up-front) and when I hadn't heard anything I called and was told they forgot to send the fabric to the manufacturer. They were unapologetic and rude. A woman named Debbie kept assuring me she was looking after it but week after week I heard nothing and instead had to spend hours trying to get a hold of someone to let me know what was going on. I will never purchase from this store again. In fact, I just purchased a few pieces of furniture from DecorRest in Pickering and had the complete opposite experience- our beautiful coffee table was delivered within a week and the sales crew went out of their way to care for us. They even gave us a bottle of wine after our purchase (and they offered free delivery and only required less than half the purchasing price up-front). Don't waste your time or money at Sklar. I wish I had gone straight to DecorRest from the beginning! read more

I ordered a sectional on May 12 and was told 8-10 weeks until our couch arrived. By the 10th week we called and found out half of it was in the store so we went to pick that up. Tomorrow will be week 11 so I called to see if the second half would be ready for pickup and I was told it won't be ready until Monday. No apologies have been offered, nevermind compensation. I really liked our sales person and had no problem ordering the couch, but actually getting my $2000 purchase has been another story. Based on my experience and other reviews, Sklar definitely needs to step up their game in customer service and stick to their timelines. read more

The store is great. The service wonderful but the product is pretty bad. We bought the 738 sectional about 3 years ago. I can't believe how awful this couch already looks. The pillows lose feathers daily from just sitting against them. the pillows are half the weight they were originally. The back cushions have lost their shape and quite frankly are looking terrible. The sofa looks like it's 20 years old. The seat cushions are misshapen also. We just sit on it. It shouldn't look so bad after only 3 years. It was 2000 dollars. We purchased a leather reclining from them in july.I expressed concerns over it being made in China but was assured that it was high quality at a reasonable cost for that reason.Called about problems with it in the first week.They sent someone out and she said she would check and get back to us.........STILL WAITING! Have been in touch with customer service all to no avail.In the end we could have bought elsewhere for one third the cost for junk and been happier with the poor quality realizing you get what you pay for! read more

We purchased a couch from sklar peppler when it was delivered I noticed that the seat cushions were all different densities called customer service and was told to bring them in and they would stuff the cushions some more. A brand new couch had to be restuffed wasn't impressed . While purchasing the couch I asked the sales lady if she could recommend a company for cleaning in the future she started telling me about a package that can be bought furniture protection plan and yes they would deffinetly come and clean my couch and to make sure to call them and get my monies worth. So I bought that package got home read what was in it, they only clean a spot not the couch it is an insurance in case of accident they do not clean the couch. Was there recently to have the cushion stuffed again not even a year latter because the foam flattened again saw sales lady and again she mentioned to call the company to have my couch cleaned So I did guess what they said if there was a specific stain they would send me a product so I could clean it myself. At this point I was livid with the lies so I called sklar spoke to sales lady she immediatley asks to put me on hold so she can contact the company, I wait well the so called superviser comes on the phone only to tell me that no the cleaning plan does not cover general cleaning it is an insurance for my couch. The sales lady is a liar selling things she has no idea about and then hides behind her coworker Not impressed with sklar pepper they used to be a very good company not any more .The couch is ready for the garbage and it wasn't even a sale one. Will never purchase again better of buying a cheap one and replacing it more often. read more
