I was fortunate enough to get my very first appointment with her, years ago, when she was a doctor at Southwest Skin Specialists. What makes Dr. Shannon Heck's results far superior to others' is that she uses the tiniest needles, maneuvers around every fine capillary to avoid bruising, knows exactly what needs to be done to what extent, and is so precise and gentle. Even her personality is so gentle, genuine and beautifully calm. She is such a professional and hires the best assistants who are also so caring as they apply ice before and after each needle is inserted. Another way that she prevents pain is that she will give you a prescription for the (very low price) numbing cream so that you can start the numbing process at home an hour before. Believe me, this makes a "night & day" difference from other places who apply the numbing cream while you are in their office. I have been going to her for many years (so has my mother) and she has never left a bruise from needles which is absolutely astonishing because I have bruised excessively when I had any type of facial filler or "botox" done by other doctors, plastic surgeons or cosmetic practices. The very unsightly bruises would last for weeks. In fact, my helpful advice to you is to never have your lips filled by a plastic surgeon. I learned the hard way (with 2 different TOP plastic surgeons) that they are not as skilled! I was left with hypopigmentation on my cheeks and scarring on my chin and nose. I found Dr. Lal through a recommendation, and he has been the one guiding me through the remediation and healing process. He travels often for speaking engagements and he sees a lot of patients, so there can be a wait, but he is absolutely worth it. He knows exactly what he's doing, explains everything clearly, and will never recommend anything harmful or unnecessary. You can tell he genuinely has your best interest in mind. On top of that, he's funny, personable, and just has a great heart. They have billed my insurance and i have self paid without issue. I do book in advance because i want to keep things on schedule. I came in for acne treatment and was prescribed three pregnancy-safe medications, each with clear instructions. One of the prescriptions wasn't covered by my insurance, but the team immediately began the prior authorization process. I called the office on the day of my appointment and again the next day, and they reassured me that they had detailed notes and were actively working on getting approval. They even tried calling my insurance the same day, but unfortunately, the office was closed. Despite that hiccup, I was able to pick up two of my prescriptions the same day, and I'm still waiting on the clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5% gel mixture--but I'm hopeful it'll be ready soon. The front desk staff were kind, attentive, and made me feel heard. Nicole was especially thoughtful--when I asked about combining clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide, she didn't dismiss me like my previous provider did. Instead, she looked it up right there and confirmed it was a valid treatment option. She prescribed it along with azelaic acid 15%, and I felt genuinely supported. I used to go to Affiliated Dermatology in Tempe and was seen by Dr. Jonathan Lavian, MD. Unfortunately, that experience was uncomfortable--he didn't listen to my preferences and made me feel dismissed. Nicole was the complete opposite: respectful, curious, and collaborative. I'm so thankful to have found this provider. She helped me feel confident in my treatment plan and cared for as a patient.
