I have been going to Skin Bar and Leisa for 14 years. Shame on me for only now writing a review. Originally, I was pretty hesitant to do anything beyond a custom facial. Needless to say that as time passed, my skin concerns changed. Leisa helped me better understand the benefits of the other treatments and really broadened my horizons with what I am willing to try. Currently, I have a Clear Skin membership (2 treatments per month) that Leisa examines my skin during each treatment and then recommends the treatment(s) for the following month. In September 2024, I decided to treat myself and I purchased a bundle with 3x fraxel duals and 3x micro needling for anti-aging purposes. With my monthly membership, Leisa helps me to determine if I should use the membership treatment(s) or use the bundle treatments. Skin Bar allows me to easily pause my membership for months that I don't use the membership treatments. I am very happy with my results - I can visibly see reductions in my wrinkles. For those who have read my other reviews may know that I have thing for body contouring/sculpting moment. This is another one of those reviews. I was on instagram late at night and saw an add for this place. The thing I liked about this place was that it seemed like a coolsculpting moment, which I am not qualified for, but try to see if someone will do it on me. The results I got from coolsculpting were more permanent and better than any of the emsculpts I've done. Just to be clear, this is not coolsculpting. It is something called cryoskin. So what is the difference? I am no expert by all means, but based on my experiences, coolsculpt is more of a vacuum moment that latches onto you and it gets real real cold. Cryoskin, someone is rubbing a device on your problem spot and sculpting what you want. Go see Matt at Skin Bar to get a more intellectual explanation. I first met with Matt back in June and he explained the technology and method behind cryoskin and walked me through the process. I had all the intentions of going to see him in August, but life happened and I never had a chance. I forgot about it until I got a text with a promotion. A discount on one session and a guarantee for another session if post session did not trim my waist 1-2 inches. It seemed a bit impossible for my figure (very small), but I knew Matt would be upfront and honest with me so I decided to go see him. As I expected, 1-2 inches was not realistic for someone of my built. So we established a more realistic target and wow. I literally lost 1/2 inch around my waist after an hour with Matt. I usually ask for my phone during these sessions, but didn't need it. Matt is so personable and is one of those people you just want to keep talking to. He walks you through the process and is very realistic with expectations and results, which is very key when doing one of these. So many people think that there is a miracle method or pill that will help them go from how they are to Gisele Bunchen and there are folks out there that will say you will be a supermodel afterwards. No... I've tried many places, all great experiences with the exception of one, but think this place will be my permanent place for one of these moments. It is close to my home, I love the staff there, and it is efficient. I just need one session to get the results that I would need four to five sessions of emsculpt. Time and money well spent in my opinion. Cryoskin is a great compromise for those who want to get coolsculpt but do not qualify like myself. She is very detail oriented, she really knows my skin. I've also had a couple appointments with Leisa who is also amazing. #MASKNE how annoying to have a skin trouble during mask mandatory season.. yes! I do have a mask acne and never thought this would happen because I never had acne in my teenager so why now?!?! I visited couple of doctors regards on my skin trouble but didn't get any clear answer except I have an allergic to dust mites, tree pollen and left me with hydrocortisone 0.75%. Out of my desperation to treat my skin trouble, I reach out to Skin Bar and recommend to do hydra facial. After I walked into the business/apartment front of the place, I see a wanna be "Scrubs" tech come to the front desk. He looked like a dentist and so did the rest of my visit. I was greeted by the Yelp infamous Jaime and she was very pleasant and friendly - just like a Disney princess. The facial room looked like a dental office - cramped though and very sterile looking. I felt like Harry Potter living under the stairs, bumping into everything in my path. No scented candles, but there was music - shitty, completely unrelaxing music that sounded like a bootleg version of Chicago. If it wasn't for Groupon, I wouldn't have come. After applying some moisturizers to me, she asked since my pores were sooo clogged if I wanted to be zapped by this bug zapping machine to kill the bacteria on my face. Of course I said yes! And I can not tell you how I felt after - I felt lightly stung as if by static cling and my face felt like it was on fire afterwards. My face also looks horribly broken out like a teenager hitting puberty. And PLEASE! throw that iPod nano out the window before I punch it in the face! I wanna listen to something else - like traffic down below, but I wasn't even humored with that! I heard EVERYTHING outside in the lobby once the nano battery died. Nothing relaxing at all. I was scared and worried at the same time when I purchased Groupon and Tippr's deals for Laser Hair Removal. They seem like some really scary procedure and I wasn't sure if I was ready. I made my appointment and showed up and the journey began. It was very nerve wrecking at first but luckily the technicians I have had here are all very friendly and they try to calm you down. The procedure is very fast. One area would be done in pretty much less than 5 minutes. I think I spend more time waiting than actually getting the procedure. The receptionist is nice too but she is kind of cold. She isn't rude but she just seem to like her job too much. I kind of hope they would hire someone a bit more welcoming. This place is a gem. I've been going to Skinbar since- oh I don't know 2015? Great skinticians (sp?) and great owner. They really care about you. I love these guys!! They have a subscription based model where you pay x amount for X facial a month and another subscription for laser hair removal, they have different ones. I had both skincare and laser hair removal. No jipping done here! It's an honest and great place. The owner is such a sweetheart too, Matt I think his name is! I feel like a person and not a churned cow coming into this establishment. Usually whenever I sign up for facial or laser packages elsewhere I get so mad at the end because they have really bad rules like you can only use it within a month or it disappears etc...but not this place! Your appointments will roll over to the next month and next if you don't get to use it. They also have an app! So you can schedule your appointment on the app. Their products are top notch. As a serial groupon user, lifebooker, and all those other online prepackage sales characteristic of my generation, I have tried several different places for laser hair removal before settling on NuVision for the remainder (and also majority) of my treatments: leg, underarms, and brazilian. I also take advantage of their online discounts for their isolaz acne photofacial, which has worked pretty well on my acne prone skin. In regards to laser hair removal, the quality of the results REALLY depend on the technician responsible no matter where you go. While all the ladies that have attended to me at NuVision have been great, there are some that are noticeably much more detail oriented. The very first time I went, I had Zakia. She was very meticulous with her work. I was really impressed by her professionalism and was readily willing to come back to NuVision since I have had some seriously NIGHTMARE experiences with other "medspas." After that test run, I went home and bought A LOT more prepaid packages to NuVision. The main reason why I keep coming back is because of Sarah Brady. She is SO AWESOME and makes the entire experience very warm and friendly. Sarah is exceptionally helpful and goes out of her way to educate you on the services you receive. I get the impression that she customizes the experience to best fit your personal needs. I ALWAYS try to get Sarah for my Isolaz facials. She gave me really great tips on keeping my acne at bay. Also, she is very gentle and her warm personality shows when she works. I am rating NuVision a four, but I would rate Sarah a five. But don't overbook her! I need some of her time too! LOL Overall the customer service is good and the office atmosphere is friendly. I like to reschedule A LOT and they've never given me a hard time about it. I came here for the facial offered through Groupon. Positives: 1. Olga, my facialist, was very kind. 2. The room was quiet. 3. My face left much softer. Negatives: 1. You have to request a large key to go to the restroom, which is outside the office and dirty. 2. BEWARE. Although the Groupon coupon gives notice that microdermabrasion costs extra, the facialist didn't ask if I wanted it, she simply told me I was going to have it. So the facial cost an extra $15. 3. The room is tiny and Olga kept bumping into me when she departed from and returned to the room. 4. The steam was a bit too close to my face and a bit too intensely hot, even after Olga adjusted it for me. 5. The facial does not include much massaging. 6. No candles or relaxing music included. It's taken me way too long to review this place but I was thinking about them today and the exact thought was, "Nuvision can just take ALL of my money because they are the truth, the light and the way!" Let me explain. I have been getting facials and doing laser hair removal at a number of different places around the city for years now. I've seen some progress but nothing really promising. And all of those visits were from groupon/living social/ life booker/ gilt you name it packages and once they were up, I never felt compelled to actually go full price and become a regular at any of those places. But then there was Nuvision. After my first laser session, I LEGITIMATELY saw results almost immediately. It was mind blowing. What were they doing that no other places was? I didn't care I just wanted more of it. Halfway through my package I ponied up and became a member buying full price sessions for laser on a different area and also facials with microdermabrasion add ons. I really came to trust the aestheticians and the results really speak for themselves. Everyone is very professional (shout out to Jess!), the venue is very soothing and the prices are so affordable, especially when you become a member. Highly recommended. I purchased a laser hair removal package from GroupOn. I was a little skeptical given the reviews on Yelp, but decided to give it a try anyway. I've long since completed my six sessions for half legs and I'm happy to announce that I don't remember the last time I picked up a razor. The staff members are all very friendly. The owner emails you every time after a session to ask for your opinions. They also email promotions and what not for laser hair removal, facials, etc. The only thing I remember commenting on is the uniformity of the technicians. My first time (I forget who I had), the technician was very thorough. Took probably 15 minutes. My second session went very fast and I did not feel that the technician did as good as a job as the first one. My review of this place is limited to the laser hair removal procedure. I cannot speak for other services they provide. Yesterday I went for my first session in Nuvision. Like anyone else, I was a bit concerned about the pain that I would get from the procedure. I'm a chicken, I'll be the first one to accept it. So I was pleasantly surprised with the Apogee system they used on my legs. The procedure took about 20 minutes and I was able to go through it without having to scream any profanity. I am not going to say I didn't feel anything, because that's not the case. But if you can stand waxing, epilation (which I think is by far more painful) etc. then you should be okay with this procedure. Now, on to the staff. Everyone was friendly from the moment I called to make my appointment, arrived at the office, during the procedure and when I left. I also witnessed a client coming in 20-30 minutes late to her appointment. They did in fact informed her that she had missed it and they were not able to give her another time that same day. But instead of lecturing her about their policies, they worked with her to find another time, the next day. That means a lot to me. I also noticed that the girl next to me in the waiting room was bummed when she learned she just missed Nuvision's latest Groupon offering. That also served me as a sign that I was in good hands. At least in my mind, I would not be sweating missing a Groupon if the place was bad. Right? Yes, the space is tight. But this is NYC, please people, have realistic expectations!! I lived in a shoe box for a couple of years when I was in NYC. So, I was not surprised by the space. The room where I got the procedure done was comparable to other places I went to get the same procedure in the DC area. The technician told me that these were their temporary quarters as they remodeled their old space. So, there!! Some hope that you will get more space. But don't hold your breath. hey!!! its me again!! and im ready to tell you about the new IsoLaz laser procedure that i underwent this past monday at Nuvision Medspa. the procedure is virtually painfree! and there is almost no post procdeure symptoms, this treatment is suppose to lift the oil that is clogged in your pores and kill the underlying bacteria that is underneath your skin! and let me tell you it works!!! i havent Broken out in acne this entire week!!!!! not one pimple or redness from pimples usually have when they are spawning. i recommend this procedure to everyone who has acne problems go in for Nuvisions free consultation as mentioned in my previous review!! its so worth it!! i will post before and after pictures soon!! read more

2 stars for being clean. First of all, I'm being sent junk emails from other companies who point to this site as the source. NOT okay. Secondly, now that I'm here, I can leave my review for the awful customer service and situation I had with them a year or two ago-- the receptionists were always unprofessional and impolite, I feel like they're young girls from way out of town who need to make a quick dollar. They give zero sh*ts about anything. Period. I received laser hair removal, 6 sessions through a lifebooker / groupon voucher- it's now a year later and looking like I have never received a single treatment. (Another spa said sometimes spas with laser vouchers use less strength during treatment so you actually end up buying more sessions at full price after the package is spent... Makes sense). Additionally, I actually missed an appointment I had to make two months in advance because they couldn't be bothered to confirm my appointment closer to the date like every other high end spa/office/salon/business in existence. My technician Sarah explained fully about the laser treatment. Treatment room is so small, not enough space to comfortably dress or undress. No place to leave your cloths. It's a also old building and very basic decor. Bathroom outside the office does not have papers and water is draining from the sink constantly. I purchased two of the Groupons that are good for three sessions of laser hair removal each (for a total of six sessions). I have so far done three of the sessions, so I have enough info to write my review. I have been very pleased with my experience at Nuvision this far. The appearance of the medspa is great - clean, modern waiting room with dim light and soft music, the treatment rooms are clean and very private, and the techs are always very professionally dressed. There are a few receptionists, and while one may be a bit more abrupt than the others, I've certainly never had a problem. I've always been taken for my appointments right on time or even early. As for the procedures, I've had varying experiences. The first time, I was taken up to a different floor of the building and placed in a small, very doctor's office-y room. The tech (sorry, I don't know most of the techs names) did a pretty good job explaining the procedure and warning me before she started each zap. I have to say, this machine was pretty painful and I jumped a few times from the shock. You could literally smell the hair burning though, so I was hopeful that the pain meant it was working! I was a very sore and very red after this treatment and it was sort of embarassing to walk back to work and try to pretend that everything was cool. I tried to book further appointments for later in the day so I could go after work and straight home after, but they don't usually have late enough appointments. So I've stuck with going during my lunchbreaks for now. The second session was with Sarah (I think) and the machine used this time was much more gentle. Sarah explained that this machine was meant to target the finer hairs and it used a suction device. It was basically pain-free and I was glad for the break, but I think the machine is less effective at actually getting rid of the hair. Sarah was wonderful and definitely my favorite tech so far. My last session was in the same room as the second machine, but did not use the suction device and seemed a bit closer in effectiveness to the first machine. It was still not as painful as the first time, but I could smell the hair burning again. I'm not entirely certain why they use different machines each time, but they seem to each have their purpose. I hope that I'm not getting scammed by having a less effective machine used so that I'll need to buy additional sessions at the end when the hair isn't gone.... ? I have a feeling I'll be headed back up to the dreaded torture device they used the first time on my next appointment, but I'd rather suffer a bit and see results. I have three more sessions to go, so I'll update and let everyone know the end result after my last visit. But at this point, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Nuvision. read more

I've been a member at NuVision, now called Skin Bar (http://www.skinbarnyc.com/), for years. I bought a six-facial package that they offered years back when I stopped by an open house event they held, and signed up for the Simply Skin membership when they began offering it. Eventually I also signed up for a laser hair removal membership as well. Both memberships have been well worth it, as becoming a member includes special monthly deals and free upgrades, as well as discounts on other services and products. They also have promotions regularly that offer discounted monthly membership fees. Skin Bar does a good job of working with you when you sign up as a member, and they're very understanding. During my first year of membership, I was extremely ill and had to cancel my facial the morning of, and wouldn't be able to have my treatment for the month because I was leaving town the next week. To make up for it, they put a free facial into my account to be used at a later date since the timing meant I missed a treatment that month that I'd already paid for. They also allow you to switch between laser hair removal package treatments month to month, since some areas require 6 to 8 weeks between sessions, so you can work on two different areas with the same membership. I've seen various aestheticians over the years, but I now have my regular treatments with Jessi, who is fantastic - extremely sweet and helpful, and has a softer touch that makes my least favorite part of the facial, extractions, far more bearable. For my laser hair removal sessions, I go to Leisa, who is also great - friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely efficient, which is always a plus for laser hair removal. I've been pleased after my sessions with both of them. They have taken great care of my skin. They did a major renovation and space overhaul last year to become Skin Bar, and the upgrades and changes have definitely been for the better. The receptionists and front office have always been friendly and welcoming, but the waiting area now has a very comfortable, high-end throwback feel to it. They also offer several lines of great skincare products, which are on display in the waiting area, and are always willing to give you more information on their offerings if you ask. They really care about their clients as well, as they've actually called me to survey how my experiences with their business have been. I would definitely recommend Skin Bar to anyone looking to get a facial or laser hair removal, and encourage signing up for membership since the treatments are actually fairly affordable with it. I moved to a new neighborhood recently and Skin Bar is slightly out of the way now, but I still go monthly anyway I love the place so much. Give Skin Bar a try! I promise it's worth it! read more

I bought a voucher for this place for laser hair removal. It was my first experience, and I was terrified because of all the reviews I've read about people getting burned. Fortunately my experience was quite positive. It's always easy to get appointments online, they are always on-time and I never had to wait long, no burns or rashes, and the treatment actually worked. I've only gone through 5 treatments so far, and the area I am getting treated for is pretty much hairless. The reason why they aren't getting 5 stars is because of the pressure of tipping and buying more. I have been getting facial for about 15 years with varying degree of results and success. This was my first visit to a "med spa" there are a lot of other treatments and stuff going on (like people getting lasik procedure) Katie was my esthetician and she was bubbly and no-nonsense. Initially I was asking myself "where are the water falls and the music?" Well that is most definitely what you are paying for when you go to a spa. I told Katie I was a little nervous about the microdermabrasion since I had had an insane experience (in terms of pain) previously (see LING review) She showed me the device she would be using and turned it on putting it against my arm-it was totally tolerable and I sat back and more or less had my face vacuumed. No massage just extractions and the application of some potions. I was here on a Groupon and they did offer me another treatment for $99 (even telling me I could call by the end of May-I didn't and I kind of regret it) Not fancy but gets the job done my skin texture was very soft and blemish free. read more

I was in two days ago for a facial and I had a great experience. I purchased a 50% off coupon from groupon.com, so I only paid $50. I prefer this type of "medspa" to the traditional spa-spa, since I'm not into the scented candles and new age music and all that stuff- just clean out my pores! It was sterile and clean. My facialist mentioned that there was an additional facial room that was being used, so maybe they have all that spa crap back there. Jaime did my facial, and I would highly recommend her. She was very pleasant and kind and gentle on my face. She took the time to answer my questions about my skin, skincare products, etc. My favorite part was that she told me about some of the products they sell there, but didn't try to pressure me into buying a bunch of stuff I don't need, which often happens with spa facials. read more

Once you sign up you get emailed daily with their specials, although its hard to figure out pricing from their website unless the "memberships" are one time appointments. Speaking of their website it was down for awhile with an error message saying "This domain name expired and is pending renewal or deletion", I've never seen that with a professional business. The office is located in an old narrow building and they have 2 suites on 2 floors. You have to slide in sideways into the hallway bathroom. lol But I have to say they decorated pretty well with the space they have. They offer light snacks and refreshments which is a nice touch. Purchased 6 Brazilian laser hair removals. Finally finished my last session a few weeks ago and gave it sufficient time and patience to see results. After 10 months, to not see results (besides a little thinner hair) is a bit ridiculous to me. I blame it on the technician spending very little time on my sessions and not using a strong enough level of laser strength (possibly NuVision"cheaping" out on me because I purchased the discounted package from Lifebooker). I still have all the hair I had before the treatments, went every 6 weeks 6 times and took the instructions on care very seriously. I came here with a groupon for 6 laser hair removal treatments for my lower legs. I don't think I would've gotten laser hair removal here or elsewhere because the procedure is quite pricey and so I am happy I got a groupon for it. (I have light olive skin and black hair) I am so happy with the results that I've gotten so far and I am only 3 treatments in. The first time that I went in, the technician explained the procedure and then went right ahead and started with the laser. It did hurt a little and felt like i was getting pierced with a small needle over and over again on certain parts of my leg where the hair was thicker. By the third treatment, my legs are looking smooth and hair free. My main concern was the hair towards the bottom of my leg where when I shave you could still see black dots. That has completely disappeared and I am so happy it has. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The decor of this place is very elegant and modern. It is small and a bit cramped but I don' t think that should deter anyone from coming here for their great services. read more

Where do I begin? There are not enough amazing things that I can say about this place. I absolutely love Skinbar and have been a loyal member for about a year. My roomate went here so that is how I found out about this hidden gym. The moment you walk into Skinbar, it is very asthetically pleasing- cute, boutique, quaint and cozy. The front desk staff are always very helpful and work with you to ensure the highest quality of service. Matt, the owner, is absolutely wonderful! As a business owner myself, I can say that I know he genuinely cares about his customers and understands how to provide quality customer service. Whenever Matt is there he takes the time to ask me how I'm doing and follows up with me in regards to my skin's progress. When I sent Matt an email, he replied back very quickly and I appreciated how he made responding a priority. I've been to many establishments where the owner is "too busy" and is nowhere to to be found- This is a place where the owner and staff take the time to get to know you on a personal level! They truly care about their customers and are not just in it for the money! There are way too many spas in Manhattan that have a rude and snobby vibe- This is NOT one of them. Before Skinbar, I was very unhappy with my skin due to clogged pores, some cystic acne and constant breakouts due to hormonal changes. It seemed like no matter what I did, it always got worse. Although I did not see the results I would have hoped for within my first six months, Matt handled my concern very professionally, understood where I was coming from and handed me over to a new asthetician, Amber. Let me make note, the aesthetician I had when I started is no longer at the establishment. It was Amber, my savior, who detected exactly what type of treatments my skin needed... She recommended the Isolaz laser treatments. After my first session with her, I immediately started to see results. Not only is Amber very knowledgable, she tailors every session to meet your specific needs, she is personable and is always very thorough when explaining what she is doing to your skin. Amber also always ensures that you're OK and comfortable throughout the session. I know everyone prefers something different when it comes to their facials but I've had facials in the past where the aesthetician literally digs into your skin and does not care how you feel or if you're left with large red marks from the tools or lasers they use. Amber is the absolute best and I honestly can't thank her enough for being so attentive and clearing up my skin. Amber, if you ever read this, I love you! Lastly, I am obsessed with the line of products they carry. The staff never pushes products on you or guilts you into buying anything, which is very important to me. I can't stand when bougie places start to try to sell you everything and anything just to make a profit. I know the difference between a genuine recommendation and someone trying to make a sale. The best part about Skinbar is that they will give you a homecare regiment that consists of their products but you are never obligated to do it/buy it. I decided to try the regiment that Amber created for me and since the products work wonders I ended up purchasing all of them. See, when products and regiments actually work they sell themselves! Really more like 3.7 stars. Let's face it, laser hair removal is like a medieval form of torture. I dread going. I'm known to reschedule simply because I chicken out at the last minute. I've been to a few places in the city with Groupons and, though this place isn't very pretty (definitely has more of a surgical feel than a spa feel) my technician, Ashley, was very good made me feel comfortable. I've been getting my laser hair removal treatments here for months and Gina is by far the best! I like skin bar a lot in general but I do notice a bigger difference in my progress when I go to her vs. the others. Not to mention she is super funny and makes you feel very very comfortable. Even on a day that I was more sensitive, she gave me a stress ball and made me laugh (it was over before I knew it). She really cares about your experience and takes the extra step for you always! I have the pleasure of booking with Jessica Bergquist who gives the best facials I have ever received. She takes the time to know my skin, understand my problems, and really recommend what is best for it on an appointment by appointment schedule to help me look & feel my best! This place is great. Customer Service seems to be the top priority which is ok with me (the customer). The environment is very relaxing and the room is designed pretty cool. The estheticians there are very knowledgeable and friendly and made me feel a bit more comfortable about getting a facial. I've been a member of Skin Bar for approximately 16 months and am very pleased with the results. During this time I've had numerous IPL and skin tightening treatments, which have left my skin looking great! Thanks to growing up in South Florida I had a lot of sun spots and discoloration on my face. The IPL treatments really helped to even out my skin, to the point that people notice! Paying for a monthly "membership" forces me to actually go! Otherwise I'd be wasting money every month! The staff at Skin Bar is phenomenal. Jessica is my preferred esthetician. Had my underarm done few years ago, thought might be nice to try a different place for another hair removal treatment-- purchased the Groupon, and made the appointment. The experience was pleasant. I went in, filled out all the forms, the lady (i think her name is Olga?) led me to the upper level (the reception area is separated from the actual treatment room), briefly explained and performed the treatment. What I thought different is she didn't put any gel on the treated area, I asked her about that, she told me because they are using the latest type of machine so gel is not needed. She did mention that gel was applied when they are still using the old machine. The process itself was bearable, not completely pleasant, but not too bad either. 15 or 20 mins, I was out of clinic, fast, straight-forward, no hassle. I can hardly tell I just had a laser treatment done afterward. Can't wait to go back for future treatment. read more
