This shop is amazing and the fact proceeds support the library is awesome! I make sure to stop in this place every time I am vacationing in the area because of the great prices and selection of books. I have been lucky in the past and have almost always found a book that I've been looking for (sometimes more) or have stumbled upon great books by chance. Hidden behind he main shops along the main street with ample parking, you won't want to miss this bookstore. There is something for everybody in this nicely organized shop! read more

Tucked behind a strip mall, we almost missed this great shop! So glad we called before giving up. The atmosphere and staff were so welcoming, and their selections comprehensive and well organized. Well worth the stop in this pretty town. Find the town theatre and head back behind it (and the strip mall). read more

Books Bards and Barns The Skidompha Second Hand Bookshop is a wonderful store that is presently in a old barn. The books are donated and the proceeds go to the library just down the street. The bookshop is crowded, messy and kind of smells like an old barn, which is necessarily a bad thing. Of course in a used bookstore like this you never know what you care going to find and that is the real fun. Definitely a eclectic and odd assortment of books but that's to be expected when the books are donated. Lots of old classic and kids books as well as some interesting farming and agricultural stuff. The prices of course were dirt cheap and it's easy to walk out of here with a armful of books for only a couple of bucks. Bookstores like this are great fun and it's easy to lose several hours poking around inside the cool old barn. You might not always find what you are looking for but you definitely will find something interesting. read more

This is a beautiful used book store that is a non-profit that supports the local public library. The store is well lit and staffed by friendly volunteers. Pricing is a bit steep for most things, but they do have a bargain table with $0.25 paperbacks and $1 hardbacks. There are few books in this category and they tend to be in lower condition. The rest of the book store is well stocked, though not comprehensive. These books vary in price, but tend to be a bit more expensive than other used book shops. One of the best aspects of this store is it has its own off street parking that is usually available even during peak tourist season. Bottom Line: This is a pleasant place to visit, and even with the higher than expected prices, you can save money from buying new. read more

Yelp user for a very long time and I am so glad to write my very first review for this amazing establishment! I'm in Maine for a summer job in Portland, and decided to take a couple of days to explore before the position begins. I was able to make it north to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse (totally worth it) and stopped through Damariscotta on the way back south. Before lunching I had noticed a small but special sign noting the existence of a used book store sponsored by the local public library and made a mental note to go after eating. The short walk back to a residential street was lovely and exuded small town charm. The unassuming building housing the shop features some great buys before you even walk in the door. Once I did enter the store however I was greeted with the typical smell you get from a really great used book store and got distracted right off the bat by the awesome selection of vintage children's books. I should stop here to mention that every used book store I visit (and I really like books, so I visit a significant and unhealthy amount of book stores) I look for books from a 1930s series of children's books called "The Twins Series" written by Lucy Fitch Perkins. The books focus on twin siblings, always a boy and a girl, from various places geographically or in history. These books are very special to me and I have never found more than one at a time. After scouring the entire and rather lengthy children's sections for a "Twin", I made it to s pile of books stashed under a shelf along the floor and gasped way to loud for being in a public place. Sitting down there on the ground were 12 "Twins" all in a row. There were even four more in another section. My fellow customers were nothing if entertained by my pure joy and giddiness upon making this discovery and the woman working the shop was completely helpful and just as excited as I was. So thank you Skidompha Public Library for organizing and running such an exciting treasure trove of goodness. read more

Absolutely beautiful spot; very well laid out and comfortable shopping. Lots of chairs overlooking the river. Most books were from $4 up... the day I was there I got a Flannery OConner book of short stories for $2.50 due to a half off sale. A MUST GO TO for book fans! read more

I found a lot of interesting books here for really low prices. All of the book sales go to support the public library and all of the books are donations, I think. read more

I happened upon this bookstore while on vacation and got some really good deals! Classics were half off and I was able to get two books (To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby) for $1.50! Used on eBay, I couldn't find them for less than $10. They also support teachers and I got a few books for half off because of this discount! I will say though, that without the discounts, some of the books are a little pricey. The woman who was running it that day was very friendly. If I lived locally, I'd be coming back weekly to check out the new stock. When I come back to Damariscotta, I'll definitely be stopping by again! read more

We only stopped here briefly due to time, but we found this an excellent bookstore. It had a ton of old or classic books. The people working there were excellent too. I believe they were about to close, and we didn't even spend a lot of time there, but they still took the time to tell us a number of things we just had to see in the area. Also, when I asked if they had something, they gave considerable effort to show me all of the areas to look in for that type of book. read more

You must stop here and browse for an hour. This is a lovely used book store with a good selection of all types of books. They have a very good, small military history section and a good variety of art and architecture books. We usually can't get out of here with less than twenty books! read more
