I have always loved this chain and have a soft spot Brunswick, the town Bull Moose was born. The staff is always so chill and helpful. They greet you like a VIP and friend. Very helpful in navigating the store, or online orders. The store is smaller than others, like Scarborough or Windham or Waterville, however, they still offer a lot of great items for fair prices and it all adds up if you are a rewards member. If you have something specific you are looking for, you may want to call ahead to see if they have it at this store, which again, is smaller. My family typically looks for movies, music, books and games. I love the fun, magnets, toys and collectibles. Everyone we shop with usually walks out with something fun. Parking can be tough if there is construction or the farmers market is open, if you are willing to walk a bit, then it's no problem at all accessing it. read more

This review goes to the corporate office, not to any store. If you are buying off their website, you may want to check your credit card statement regularly because a woman named Mary 9May not be correct as she refused to give full name charged my credit card 4 times for a single box set purchase, When I called to complaint and ask them why they did this and reminded them that I did not authorize the extra charged, "Mary" refused to respond for 8 days, and then denied that she or the company had done that. It took another 4 days for them to correct they overcharge, I sent her and the owner a copy of my credit card statement showing the four charges, and he ignored it, so he is okay with his employees committing credit card fraud. You should not consider pricing when a company tries to rip off and will not even acknowledge a mistake if t was one. After my third complaint about correcting their error or intentional credit card fraud, "Mary" closed my account. Was a customer for 3 years and spent over $1,000 with them. I would recommend not doing business with them because of their refusal to admit their own error, and they tried to cover it up by refusing to acknowledged and then closing my account. the fact that the owner would not respond showed that he was okay with it, so stay away and choose other online retailers that you do not have to check your credit card statement after each purchase. Not a fan of this location. Poor selection compared to other Bull Moose locations. No complaints about staff. One of the staples of a trip to Bull Moose is the DVD or BLU RAY grab bags. Five surprise movies for $5-$6. They also usually also have an extensive selection of clearance dvds. This location, not so much. I was also disheartened to see Covid barriers up. Overall this is a pocket version of a Bull Moose location. The one in Scarborough and even Windham are much larger. For being in a college town, this location was an overall disappointment, compared to what I would expect. read more

Perhaps it's because I'm a Brunswick native and this store is near & dear to my heart, or perhaps it's just because these guys hire the absolute BEST associates... but regardless, the Brunswick Bull Moose is my tops for record stores. The atmosphere is great, and it's a cozy little shop. Whoever is working is always super friendly, and they always have good suggestions if you're not quite sure what you want. Their selection is vast, and the addition of the books section is also a nice touch. 99% of the time I walk out with something when I just intended to browse around after having just kind of poked around town. Bull Moose used to have a sweet bin of free posters, so once I took one for Tori Amos' Scarlet's Walk and hung it in my dorm room over my desk. Tori's serene presence may have helped me through a shitty freshman year. Bull Moose also has a pretty solid selection of DVDs and live concert footage. When I was younger, I didn't spend money going to teen movies with my middle school friends. I didn't trick out my ride in highschool with a huge subwoofer and tinted windows. I didn't buy nice clothes in which to cruise the Maine Mall on the weekends. I really didn't buy anything... except CDs. I spent hours inside Bull Moose-- perusing the racks of new and used music, posters, and shirts. I'd always check and see if some scrub had returned his parents Traveling Wilburys CD. I found it once. I stopped by once after discovering DJ Quik on the google. I wanted to pick up an album of his, so I first checked the used section. I found an album, but it was priced at 99 cents. Usually the lowest price in the used section was around $4.99, so I brought it up the counter to get more info. I asked the employee, "Is there something wrong with this CD? Is it merely a single or something?" "Nope...nothing wrong with it. DJ Quik is great... first track is titled "Sweet Black Pu$$y." "I'll take it," I replied. He bagged it for me and said "I think that'll the best purchase of the day," as I walked towards the exit. I also remember picking up a free cassette of a group called the Black Eyed Peas one day in the late 90s. I played it in my mom's brown Ford pickup on the way home and couldn't help but notice how they sounded pretty good! Just 3 MC's... no need for anything else. Anyways, besides the low prices, hometown feel, and the occasional freebies, the employees here are really great and what make it a cut above any other record store I've been to. While almost all of them are covered in tats with dirty hair, whenever I have approached them, they have been nothing but helpful and enthusiastic. My mom usually asks them about Emmylou Harris, Enya, or Brooks & Dunn, but it doesn't matter-- these people truly love what they do, and have a great knowledge of all types of music. In closing, Brunswick is a great town to walk around in, and Bull Moose is a must-see if you're in the area. read more

I visited Bull Moose in Brunswick on Saturday; it was Record Store Day, a national event that began in 2007, as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1000 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. There are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica. Bull Moose rests comfortably in the center of the culture of indie-owned businesses, espousing the qualities of buy local, supporting each of its communities (where located) and the artists that make music. Record Store Day always offers up special vinyl and CD releases, too. I frequent both the Brunswick and Scarborough stores the most--Brunswick because it's closer, geographically--Scarborough's selection is a bit bigger and often, more varied. I like the vibe in Brunswick--everyone that works here is a fan of music, and they are always happy to talk new releases, old stuff, and anything along the musical continuum. I was very pleased to find a reissue of Magnolia Electric's "Songs Ohia" on vinyl, the late Jason Molina's band. If you are a fan of heartfelt, genuine songwriting and the grittier side of music best enjoyed late at night with a glass of Jim Beam, and have never heard the name Jason Molina, you need to check his stuff out. Another example of an artist no longer with us, but leaving a huge musical legacy behind. I've been buying music from Bull Moose since Brett Wickard (BM's founder) opened the first store back in 1989, in Brunswick, while a student at Bowdoin. I don't buy CDs anymore... but I love me some DVDs and Bull Moose has a nice selection of new and used, and I've always been impressed with the used section. They also have a pretty good sized section of local artists. The staff is usually helpful and maintains a "staff picks" rack. As to what Matt L.was saying about the hiring process... I applied for a job here several years ago and they had me make a playlist, or list artists I would include in a playlist, and then an interview. I sincerely believe that everybody in Maine who's between the ages of 16 and 30 has wanted to work at a Bull Moose Music location, at least once in their lives. I've always loved Bull Moose, ever since my days as a rebellious teenager. This store may not have the selection that the warehouse in Scarborough does, or the underground feel that the one in Portland does, but it still has its own little charm. That, and where else can you find loads of cheap new and used CDs, DVDs, and video games? This store puts any crappy music store (I'm looking at you, FYE) to shame, with its extensive collection of hard-to-find and local artists. If I were to ever leave Maine, I would miss this place dearly. read more

When I lived in California there is a placed called 'Book Off' that sells used and new items. I loved that place and visited it regularly. This place reminds me of Book Off. Unlike most other music stores, Bull Moose discounts their CDs. They have a huge selection of new & preowned, so I don't think of it as a discount music store. The employees know music, they're friendly, they're very helpful, and they're good for recommendations and insight. I am guessing part of the hiring process ensures that they know a lot about music. read more

I really really REALLY wanted to give this place 5 stars but I can't. I came here a few years ago and I remember absolutely loving the store. It's much smaller than the stores in S. Portland and Portland but it does have a charm. Hell, any store that sells music is charming in my book and that's why I don't want to beat them up too much BUT I also like to feel like I'm not getting hosed and when I look at their prices on used CD's I kinda feel like they're a bit outta touch. I don't expect ebay prices on everything used but as a business don't you keep online prices in the back of your head ? I'll pay more to shop in a brink and mortar but a used CD should be more than $2 less then the new one. read more

No trip to Brunswick is complete without stopping into Bull Moose. I love used cds and there's more than enough here to keep you occupied for a few hours. On top of that, I like a music store that carries all kinds of media and I was extremely excited to find a copy of Crow by Ted Hughes in their used poetry section. The last time I was there there were several disorganized boxes of used dvds all in paper sleeves which I find exciting because you never know what gems you'll stumble upon like that. Their dvd selection on the shelves in proper cases is much more manageable to the shopper who doesn't come from a culture of digging through dusty record crates. i REALLY REALLY miss this place. I love little uncommercialized record stores woth that slightly dirty grunge indy feel. When i would step thru the doors of bull moose, i would forget all about what coast i was on, was whipped back to reminescence of my beloved Seattle. We used to have Tower records, which was bigger, but similar, to Bull Moose. But now the Tower is fallen. And I absolutely wish we had a music/record store that sold as great of a selection of new and used music as Bull Moose does. I guess thats how New England keeps its charm. As always -with ANY location of Bullmoose, I had an issue with purchasing a PS3 game for my son for $30 that was not compatible without having wi-fi internet access, which I did not have at the time ... Bullmoose accepted the game back for a full refund or exchange, then after a VERY busy day (1/31/16) where they thought they refunded me for the game, they didn't by accident... Immediately upon contacting them with the error, they refunded my money no questions asked - which again, stands to prove my preference to Bullmoose above ANY other DVD/Book/Game store from ANY other commercial "Big name" store. If they don't have it, they WILL order/Get it for you at no charge -and get it within a week... I cannot say enough about Bullmoose and how LUCKY we Mainer's are to have them. They truly are out for the customer's best interest!!! read more
