Following in the footsteps and tradition of The Grand Tour, Sketching Rome Tours was founded by American plein air painter Kelly Medford for anyone to participate in order to learn how to keep a sketchbook journal of their travels through Rome and Italy.
A fun and unique way to see Rome, keeping a sketchbook journal was historically a part of traveling through Europe.
Started in 2012, this fun and easy workshop provides you with some easy ways to experience your own personal Rome and keep a visual diary of your travels.
Sketchbook journaling is not just for artists, but for everyone.
Meet the Business Owner: Kelly M.
Kelly came to Italy in 2005 to study classical figurative drawing at The Florence Academy of Art and decided to stay and dedicate her life to painting in Italy.
Living in Florence for 6 years, she moved to Rome in the fall of 2010 where she immeditately became part of the Rome Urban Sketchers group.
She takes easel and canvas out into the streets, parks and piazzas of Rome daily, capturing the changing life of the city.
Seeing that art, and in particular keeping a sketchbook journal, was such a part of being involved with living and loving Rome, she decided to offer this to anyone wanting to document thier time in The Eternal City.
Taking the time to sit and sketch creates a whole other level of meaning and memory in enjoying and experiencing a place. Creating Sketching Rome Tours is her way of offering this meaningful and personal experience to everyone.
