Substituted at this school multiple times without issue, I was shocked and disheartened by how my recent class was handled, particularly given the lack of support I received during a very challenging situation.
OH, I was assigned to a class that was unusually disruptive and difficult to manage. Despite my best efforts to maintain control and keep the students focused, the behavior became unmanageable. I repeatedly called for assistance from faculty members in the office, yet I received minimal support, which only exacerbated the situation.
What has been especially upsetting is that, after this event, I feel I am being unfairly blamed for the chaos that occurred. Instead of offering support or understanding, there has been an attempt to place the blame solely on me, despite the fact that the disruptive students' behavior clearly went unchecked by the staff. It is incredibly disheartening to be accused of failing in a situation where I was actively trying to do my job, only to have the staff seemingly choose to focus on their own holiday plans rather than ensuring that the school's responsibilities were met.
As a substitute, I understand the importance of maintaining discipline, but I also believe that the primary responsibility for addressing classroom disruptions lies with the full-time staff and administration. I felt as though the school prioritized a holiday event over its duty to support its teachers, including substitutes who are doing their best to ensure a smooth learning environment.
I hope that moving forward, there will be better communication and a more supportive approach to substitute teachers. No one should feel abandoned or unfairly blamed when they are trying to fulfill their role in a challenging situation. I have to say this is one of the worst TPS schools that I have subbed at which I typically sub through K through 12 even with a whole other district as well. read more
