They close at 9:30 on week nights--Kristy and I came at about 8pm on a Monday and it was plenty of time to get our skate on. There was a birthday party, a couple couples, and some singles. I felt like a kid again, I did a few spins, came up on my stoppers like Michael Jackson in Billie Jean, went heel-to-heel and skated circles around Kristy. I was thinking: Man, I rock! They played TOO CLOSE by NEXT and a few other awesome old school songs, including newer hits. I felt the music vibrate through to my inner soul sister. Too Close moved me. I had the white-man's overbite, I twisted my head from side to side-right, left, right, left- I pushed those skates to their limit. I danced. Recently heart broken? Fugheddabout it. I was Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley. I was having the Time of My Life. No screwing around: Baby refused to be in this corner. I threw one leg back and grabbed the ankle; I grabbed the back of my neck with my other hand. I was dancing. I was a festival... I was a parade. Well, almost a parade. That skate slipped from my fingers, then my balance gave. I made a valiant attempt to stay upright, but the crash went through my right ass cheek; the impact sent a shock wave of pain up my ass, spine, and it ended in my brains. The place is a little outdated looking, but the rink is in awesome condition... and that, to me, is all that mattered. read more

I think it's quite ironic that the people giving this place 1 star have more negative yelp reviews than positive. If you're giving every place you visit 1 star then maybe it's you? That being said, this is Skating Plus not the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. I think if a piece of trash in a bathroom or an employee sliding change to you versus handing it to you while also patting you on the head makes you mad enough to give a bad review, there might be bigger issues with you. I don't work here, I swear... as a fellow employee of the service industry it's very frustrating seeing people that lack common sense have such entitled attitudes. I live in Los Angeles now and although I'm not that far, I love coming back to visit family and have some skating fun. It reminds me of childhood. Skating Plus is fun for people of all ages: kids, teens, adults. You come here to skate, hang out with friends, have a good time. I don't come here to critique my interaction with an 18 year old employee who has little job experience, like duh of course they are going to be a little awkward and not give the best service. I'm not saying their behavior can be excused, I'm sure there should probably be better training of staff... but unless an employee is purposely pushing you down on the rink or flooding toilets to sabatoge your life I think it's a little silly to let the little things ruin your entire visit. The skating rink itself is in good condition. The staff is friendly and helpful. However, the bathrooms are the reason for my bad rating. The restrooms are absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. The smell from clogged toilets and lack of cleaning/ proper sanitizing is horrendous. One of the two paper towel dispensers had paper towels in it and is on its last leg. It was a fight to get anything out of it. There are 4 toilets and 3 of them were not working during our visit (4/8/15). The one toilet that was working doesn't have a stall door that will close. So, therefore, there pretty much is NOT a women's restroom to use while at Skating Plus. Other than the restroom issue our party had such a great time! BUT... This place could be shut down based on the women's restroom if an inspection were to be done on it. It is DISGUSTING! Sorry, Skating Plus... 1 star for you and your poopy filled toilets!! read more

I take my son to Skating Plus most Saturdays. He and his friends have a blast and there are always fun activities during the sessions like games / races /limbo, etc.. Skating Plus is the only place I feel good about dropping my son off unaccompanied. He is 13, he likes getting a taste of independence. The staff is so helpful and friendly too. Everything is just like when I was a kid hanging out at skating rinks.. Jordan, the young guy who skates in the center checking on falling kids and keeping everyone safe, is so great! He's helped both of my kids learn to skate on 2 different visits. He's so friendly and deserves a shout out! Thanks Jordan! Snack bar is pretty good with a bunch of affordable options. My only complaint is they charge $5 for the skating assist thing which most kids only need for a short time. It should just be free to use as needed. read more

I live in Oxnard, and I go skating there all the time. I bought my skates at the rink (Reidell R3). The staff and manager are all really nice and helpful. I asked so many questions about skating techniques, how to choose which skates to buy, and they always were very attentive and cordial. They have a lot going on at the rink, including roller derby! If you're interested in just visiting, I wouldn't recommend the Friday at 7 pm, it is crowded. Its not that bad though. But, I've been there Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday early afternoon and 9:30 pm start session, they're all spacious with not too many people in the rink. I haven't been on Saturdays and Sundays. I took a group of kids here for the first time recently, and they all enjoyed the skating (and I loved the music). While playing in the arcade afterwards, my daughter was able to win a speaker, although the box got stuck and wouldn't come out of the game. I was told that Sonny, who wasn't there, was the only one who could unlock the game. When I called the next day, Sonny promised he's take care of it and offered to send the speaker to me so I didn't have to drive back to Ventura from SB. He didn't ask me to pay for shipping either (which I would have). And just a few days later it arrived. I am so impressed by the customer service- thank you Sonny!!!! read more

I have roller derby there and it is really just the most amazing place for me. It is safe and you can trust all the employees everyone is nice and kind the floor is great and skates two! They are also very helpful and have ice if needed. The bathrooms are very nice two! Great place to go and I defiantly recommend it. It was my first time here last Sunday night with my friend Wendy. We had a good experience. ( Thanks Wendy ) We didn't go there to eat, so if you do eat there Yes its a little expensive but.. Like all the snack bars at The Movies, Mini Golf and Ice rinks Not a big Surprise there :) They have a Vending Machine with Sodas and Waters anywhere from$ 2.00 to $ 4.00 I believe. I got a Ruby red for $2.00 I was happy to have something cold :) The staff was friendly, the place was clean, The D.J was playing good music and they had a game for the kids as well on the floor. Absolutely filthy! There is a rotting carpet covering guard rails that's probably been there for decades, their inline skates are old and smelly the shoe area stinks really badly. The snack bar staff was rude, they were out of non-spicy nacho cheese. 3 stars cuz we had a blast! Amits the filth. We were a party of 20. This place has sooo much potential! And it's sadly the only skating place around so until a better one comes along this is what we have around town. read more

Well, I basically told the owner I would write this review as I feel my daughter and I have been discriminated against since we have allergies...so here goes: I grew up skating here as a kid, most my birthdays were at Skating Plus (February birthday) and back in the day it always rained, so basically, I love roller skating and this place bringgs back so many fun memories...until last Saturday, October 20 2018 when I drove down 2 1/2 hours from Pismo Beach to come to my niece's birthday party. Basically, my daughter and I both have Wheat, Dairy and Soy Allergies (soy being most severe as we break out into hives). I was told there is no outside food allowed inside. When I asked what other options they had, there were no other options for soy free/dairy free as they cook in soybean oil and there menu is so limited (basically the lady at the front said they have limited restaurant capabilites). So my question to the owner (yes I actually met and spoke with one of the partners) was: what other options do we have? I was told we could picnic outside or sit and eat our food inside the entrance, away from our family and friends we just drove 2 1/2 hours to come and see. Needless to say both my daughter and I were EXTREMELY disappointed. Me, on the brink of tears, since this place has held so many great memories for me so many years ago (I'm 40 now). I feel I have been discriminated against and hope this post will change the policies set in place as no one should experience being alienated from their family for having an medical issue like an allergy and be forced to eat outside. I say to you owners/principles: if you are not going to allow people with medical allergies to not bring food in, then you need to offer those options to your guests. PERIOD. If you do not have the facilities to operate and offer other options for people with allergies, then you MUST allow people to bring their own food in instead of DISCRIMINATING against people with allergies. I have been so many other venues in other communities that allow you to bring in food if you have allergies. I have NEVER experienced this before, and for a place like Ventura that should be progressive and inviting of tourism, this really stinks. The rollerskating was fantastic but the entire experience was tainted with the discrimination from your owners. Please change your polices. We had a horrible experience checking in for my daughters friend birthday party. Shannon Hardwood was so rude. The way she was speaking to guest was so disrespectful and theres only one reason why she keeps doing it and it's called poor and lazy management. When we were paying I didn't understand a charge. I asked Shannon about the charge and she was talking to me like I was stupid. Her way to explain was to grab the receipt out of my hands and roll her eyes and be more rude. I told her there was no need for her attitude or snatch the receipt out of my hands. She laughed and said " Ugh I didnt grab your receipt but if u feel like I did ok sorry" We were there to have a good time but people like her just make it hard to want to go back and deal with that type of service. For the most part a skating rink is a skating rink, they have the obvious, a place to skate, skates to rent, a snack bar and employees. If it wasn't for my interaction with the boys at the skate counter, I'd be giving a five star review. The only reason for two stars is that the manager appropriately listened to my complaint and it appears that he followed up with the boys at the rental skate counter. Who knows if it'll actually change their behavior. What behavior? Rude, sarcastic, impolite, jokesters. Three of them behind the counter and couldn't answer a simple question. It felt like I was talking to a few kindergartners, I am a grown man and they were speaking to me as though I were one of them. I didn't get the joke, couldn't tell why they were laughing about not having any size 9 speed skates and the place was empty. One guy kept telling me we have one size 9, I was like OK give me that pair. And then he would laugh and the other guy was like we have one size 9 and I say, OK give them to me. Then the other one, "oh it's only one size 9." I'm like, one boot? What am I gonna do with one boot? Do y'all have a lot of people that come in here with one leg that need one skate in a size 9? I do believe that size 9 is the most common men's size shoe. Why would you advertise renting speed skates and not have one PAIR of size 9? read more

We were at Skating Plus on Saturday night. The rink is great. We came all the way from South Orange County. The floor is very nice, no rough spots and very smooth. The DJ and skate guard were very nice and helpful with me and my girls. My youngest fell one time and he came over right away to help her. The snack bar has everything you would expect it to have and it was clean. The restrooms ARE clean contrary to other reviews. The only reason I gave 4 stars was my daughter went to the snack bar during the end of the first session and the girl behind the counter didn't acknowledge my daughter right away even though my daughter was looking right at her by the register. The girl behind the counter was on her phone and didn't tend to my daughter until she finished her call. Other than that, we drove 2 hours and 5 minutes to Skate here and other than the snack bar girl ignoring my daughter, everything was perfect. read more

I wanted to give a thank you to Sonny for going out of his way to make my daughter's birthday special. My tween didn't want a big party, just a few friends roller skating. I had never been here so didn't know the seating in the food area is very limited. When we arrived there was no place to sit. I was annoyed that several people were holding tables while skating but not actually eating food. This is just bad business - I'm not going to spend money on food for my group if we can't sit down at a table. When I brought this to Sonny's attention he didn't hesitate to fix the problem. He didn't even know we were celebrating a birthday but offered to set up a table with chairs at the end of the food area. When he did hear we had a birthday he made sure the DJ gave my daughter a birthday shout out. I appreciate businesses that go the extra mile to keep guests happy. I will come back again. read more

I'm an employee at Skating Plus, I've been working here for almost 2 years and I would just like to point out a few things for the people who posted some bad reviews. Not sure if you all know of Sonny, but he is the main manager here and he works his hardest to make sure everything is perfect or close to perfect which is why I am writing this review because I know how hard he works to maintain everything and make sure that the customers and the employees are enjoying themselves. He happens to be one of the most hardest working man I've gotten to know and it's upsetting to see reviews that put down the business he's been with for so long. I was reading a review where the trash bin in the bathroom was in the middle of the walkway in front of the restroom stalls, I can reassure you that the trash cans are not just laying around in the bathroom, pushed over. They are always exactly where they belong unless someone decides to push it over, which we cannot control. And regarding the smell of the bathrooms, it's a bathroom, people do their business and leave. Yes, some of the stalls get out of order, which is why there are signs stating that they are out of order. But those got fixed, and there are working perfectly well now! We try our best to clean the bathrooms as thorough as we can, which is why we have good smelling spray that stays in there to control the odor. We are not always available to immediately go clean the bathrooms as soon as someone complains. We try our hardest to get to everything to make sure everyone stays safe and are having fun. I would like to point out that this is a business and businesses are always going to have its ups and downs. Some business's do not care as much about their customers but at skating plus, we want to make sure you have an enjoyable time and come back again and become a regular customer, which is why we care about our customers. You are important and we want you to come back. All employees have off days and we still manage to get through everything and help customers with a smile on our faces even if we feel as though we are about to break. I'm come to work sometimes upset or sad, and I understand that I have to put those feelings behind me because the customer comes first. We want to make sure you have an amazing time. If there have been times where you have felt neglected by the employees, please know that it was not personal with you but they were most likely having an off day. Nobody's perfect but we try our hardest to make sure you have a perfect day. Overall, skating plus is a friendly, family environment. A bathroom should not stop someone from coming back because a trash can was pushed down or a stall wasn't working, like I've stayed several times, we try to clean and fix as soon as we can so that you have a good experience at skating plus. Customers always come first which is not something we take lightly. We always put the customers before anything else. So come to Skating Plus if you want to have an amazing time roller skating. :) read more

I took my nephews to Skating Plus yesterday. I had not been there in a long time. Unfortunately my 4 year old nephews had a seizure while taking a break. A few mothers there helped so much by calling 911, comforted both me and my nephew, and helped watch my other two nephews. I wish I knew who these ladies were because I did not have the opportunity to thank them. What I found disappointing was that not a single Skating Plus staff bothered to come over to see if we needed any help. Once my nephew started to come out of his seizure, the owner/manager came by to cover up the vomit with paper towels. Instead of asking what the problem was or how he was doing, he asked if we had already removed his skates. If he had just bothered to look, he would have seen that they were already off. I could not believe the lack of compassion. Kudos to all the mothers out there who not only care for their own children, but who show compassion for other children as well. read more

We've been bringing our kids here for about 4 years on a very regular basis. They absolutely love it. The staff here has always been super nice to us and to our children. They feel very at home. The Saturday morning skating lessons and sessions are one of the best deals around for young school age children. They offer lessons, food and skating afterwards at a very reasonable price...and it works to get regular customers like us. Also, the early Saturday session is for kids up to age 10 only, and age appropriate music is played. A great value. Plus I can skate and get my exercise too! read more

I've been skating here for the last couple of years all the time, as it has been the closest indoor skating rink to me. Their schedule is posted on their web site that is updated for holidays or any changes along with any events and the price for skating and skate rental. They offer lessons from beginning to more advanced with exceptional skaters on the staff, and they are more than willing to help outside of the lessons as well. My experience with the staff has always been a positive one. Their work involves interacting & servicing more than literally 250 people for hours on end some days, many of which are kids and young adults. I try to keep that in mind when interacting with them, because they are people too & everyone has their good & bad days. I know many of the employees well, or at least as well as someone can know others in the given situation, & I have nothing but positive things to say about them. They are all usually up beat and positive, easy & natural light conversationalists, care about peoples experience, friendly, and I consider them to be friends. It is a very inclusive environment, I see many different people that go there and all are respected. I've seen church groups of different beliefs skating together, members of the LBGT community, roller derby members, figure skaters, tour groups from other countries, surrounding schools, etc. Keeping in mind the number of young people that frequent the rink on any given night, it's not surprising that the bathrooms sometimes get a bit messy. Anybody that has raised even one kid & was responsible for the bathroom cleanup should be able to at lease relate to the task that it involves, much less when there's 40 kids or more. Especially kids that are a bit wild when not directly watched, i.e. i imagine the trash can knocked over pic in another post was part of that wildness. Whenever there's been an issue, all I had to do is let one of the staff know in the Skate Shop or at the Snack Bar & they've addressed the issue no matter What or Where. From a spill on the rink floor, to stopped up toilets and no paper towels. And I've always seen them go into the bath room with gloves on & wash their hands after exiting the bathroom. And yes there's a paper towel dispenser in the ladies room that doesn't work well, but they've got two. There's also always been toilet paper in the ladies bathroom. They sell a variety of skates & accessories at the skate shop. Men's & Women's skates, an assortment of different skate wheels and bearings, various padding for knees, elbows & such, strings, etc., I think they even have socks too. They'll let you try out the skates before finalizing the purchase, they'll help you with new wheels or pressing in new bearings, or any other questions or assistance you may need. I've purchased a couple of skates, wheels, & bearing sets there myself and have been satisfied with each purchase. There's speed skates, the usual quad skates and in-lines that you can bring to or rent from the rink. There's also "Skatemates" if you don't know how to skate, although, I would only recommend them to younger people, I've never known anyone to have an issue with parking or security in the parking lot. The rink also employees security as well. The DJ plays requests and/or a lineup. If you're not hearing some sort of 80's disco sounding music like Car Wash, then most likely it was by request. And I've seen some kids request songs that was quite inappropriate for their age and the others in the rink be denied by the DJ, but not always. And any song played is censored and is the radio or DJ censored version. There are lockers where you can get a locker token from the Skate Shop for 1$ to lock up your stuff, never had an issue using one or hearing about others having issues when they didn't use one. The Snack Bar has a good grip off concession type candies, i.e. sour straws, dipping dots, gummy bears, M&M's, etc, Beer, popcorn, water in a bottle (there's a water fountain that's near the bathrooms), pizza, pretzels, & soda. Did I already mention Beer? They sell Beer too. Beer, no funnels though. The rink floor has recently been resurfaced. The busiest nights tend to be Friday up to 9:30pm & is usually a few people afterwards till 11:30pm, Saturday I don't even attempt to go, sunday up through afternoon is usually crowded, the evening skate is not too bad on Sunday though. What can I say? I need to exercise, I like skating, this rink is close, I know them and they know me, & in my experiences going there I have never encountered anything to make me consider not going back. Because of my positive experiences with the rink I kept going and the exercise I got skating helped me lose more than 60 pounds. (there's eating better, not eating so much, drink just water, and so on that helped too.) read more

The rink is decent and we had an OK time. That lasted about an hour. The DJ did not play 'skating' music the last 2 hours of the night, which bored the masses to tears. People started skating lazily and we found other ways to entertain ourselves. Very disappoInting for a Friday night. Employees on the floor texting vice watching standing, not very professional. To cap the night, our neighbors truck was broken into. Supposedly, the security camera is blocked by a tree (what is the purpose for the camera?) According to the Ventura PD, car break-ins are common at this establishment. Something to watch out for if you plan to attend. Park close to the entrance and turn your alarm on if you do. read more

I witnessed the 2 girls in the back room combing each others hair then come up and not wash their hands and continue to handle food. I visited skating plus a few weeks ago with 5 kids, one of which has special needs. It was his first time trying to skate. As soon as he had his skates on he had to use the restroom and while in the restroom he fell and hit his nose on his walker which caused a very bad bloody nose. It became obvious that this wasn't the place for him. After attending to him and gather all the other kids I had with me I requested a refund. The employee was very understanding of our situation and refunded me all my money without a hassle. Great customer service! read more

Its Sunday family night and we usually have a blast, but for some reason they are playing a lot of RAP. I don't allow my kids to listen to this kind of music. Usually the music is pretty diverse and play mostly recent top hits. Its a shame that if this keeps up I may have to leave and disappoint my kids. Not cool for " family night". I was skating at Skating Plus today with a group of people. I've skated there many times before. Today was not crowded but there were girls about the age of 8 tossing the pvc pipe object (the thing people use who are learning to skate) back and forth to each other on the skate floor. It came to a point where I had to say something. I went up to the ref skating and he said " I know, I told them to stop but they didn't". ...... I really couldn't believe what I was hearing. He said you can talk to the manager, and I said, "perfect where is he". He then proceeded to tell me he was going to make an announcement. It's very hard to hear announcements in there. Some adult finally came out and took the thing from the girls. It should not take me having to mention anything, this should be handled by the staff. They skate around but hardly ever correct people. Many folks are just learning to skate, some are coming back after a long time off, it's scary. We do skate at our own risk but the staff should make sure everyone is acting right. They can't overlook nonsense because someone is going to seriously get hurt. read more
