We came to Skating Plus for the New Years Eve open skate as a family with 12 with people from 10-55 years old and we all had a great time! It was very nostalgic with the bright 90s neon carpets, loud music from a DJ and so much fun! You can rent quad skates or rollerblades and they don't mind if you need to switch them out for a better experience. Since this was a new years event there was a balloon drop, with hats and noise makers too! There were lots of tables and you could order food if needed. We had our son's birthday party on a Sunday and the seating area wasn't too filled, but there were a lot more skaters out on the skating rink. We attended a Saturday party, and it was the opposite. Overbooked birthday parties, not enough tables to sit at, not enough oven space for pizzas for everyone, need to wait until all the birthday party people are served first. They will not allow any outside food, only 3 hotdogs available for all these people. Spoke with Sonny the manager, and he said no exceptions, he could "put more hotdogs on", but why didn't they already plan ahead when they saw the number of people waiting to get in? Did he not see the need to be prepared as the pizzas would not be available for the non- party people? Very poor management. Supposedly party people get priority, despite the fact they were already too booked with parties that the party people were cramped. Unfortunate that the Company is focused on profits more than their customers. ** Updated from one to two stars simply because our group still had fun, despite not eating until 3:15. Sonny also reached out while we were still there and attempted a better response. While they were overbooked and weren't prepared for the number of people, I at least appreciate his attempt. I think this establishment should consider partnering with outside pizza restaurants, to prevent another situation of leaving customers without enough food at lunchtime. Their ovens are not large enough to handle the amount of people that were there. Also, as someone who works in a corporate client service role, first response is everything. There were five Birthday Parties going on the day we were there, so there was alot of festivities. The pizza was delicious. All of the concession prices were quite reasonable. Skate rental was $15. The rising also has walker type devices for beginners for a small rental fee. My daughter in law uses to go to this rink qben she was young and said little has changed. The same owner who was visible throughout the day was there when she was young. I find this to be pretty amazing . Had a pretty crummy experience with my daughter's birthday party here. The kids said one of the arcade games drained their card after just one swipe, although we weren't able to confirm this. The snack bar ran out of large pizzas and large popcorn. One of our guests ordered a personal pizza and after 20 minutes I went to check on it and was told it had even been started as they were still cooking pizzas for all the parties. For what it's worth, the people running the register at the snack bar were very apologetic and refunded the personal pizza without issue. Just seems like there was little to no planning by someone who was in charge of the food and we all got to suffer the consequences. At no point during the party did a host or hostess communicate with us, just dropped things off at the table and walked away. The hostess also wasn't very friendly when the kids were having cake and ice cream in the party room. The skating itself was fine and the kids had a blast. But everything else was less than ideal and will make us think twice before returning and probably won't have another birthday party here. read more

I wish there were 10 stars to give this spot; we had the best day ever today at Skating Plus! Back story: my daughter turned 14 today and has always wanted to book a limo and take all her friends to a skating party. Being a single dad, I have been saving up for this day since the last birthday and we also decided to pick a new place to skate. Skating Plus was recommended by a friend so I booked the party online right after Christmas - so I wouldn't miss the moment. Fast forward four months and the birthday is here but when I call to confirm - the reservation can't be found. Frantic I search for the payment receipt and can not find it either. I am thinking this is disaster and I have totally messed up the day when Sonny the manager calls me back. Sonny traced the 'near' purchase all the way back to the day after Christmas when my credit card payment didn't go thru. Totally my error - I put the expiry date in wrong. So back to today: Sonny and his staff made it work!! I don't know how but I am so grateful. With less then an hour notice, as everyone is climbing into the limo to drive there - Sonny fixed it. I know that they were overbooked and slammed busy but Sonny and Bryce saved the day, they went above and beyond to make sure this dream came true. If you're looking for some good, old fashioned fun, this is the place to be! I remember spending hours at the skating rink when I was a kid, so I was so excited to find Skating Plus and introduce my own kids to this world of fun. My kids absolutely loved it! They have walkers for beginners who are just learning to skate and skate rentals are fairly priced ($3.75 for quads and $4.50 for roller blades). You can also bring your own skates if you have them. Admission is normally $12, but Sunday nights are family nights. From 6:30-9:30 you can pay $31 for up to 5 people to skate, plus skate rentals. There's a food court that serves pizza, icees, sodas, pretzels and beer. There's also a skate shop where you can buy skates and accessories and several arcade games throughout the rink. They book birthday parties, which my daughter is super excited about. We had so much fun and my kids were so tired after. We really can't wait to go back! read more

UPDATED 7/2021: I'm impressed with the response and the speed of the response that I got from the owner on my review. My family and I will continue to attend open skate and see if things change. Thank you Sonny for responding and addressing the issues I raise in my review. I was expecting a more defensive answer, a typical response to bad reviews on yelp. Thanks for being classier than that. With the Covid restrictions lifted, my family and I have become regulars at Skating Plus. For the first month we loved every session. Put some thing about it is changed recently, including price increases and clearly the owner is not taking care of his staff appropriately. No one in forces the rink lanes and rules for learning, and well I really liked the idea of the walker they've created to help the children learn how to skate, they passed them out to the adults tonight and didn't seem to be able to match up the right height with the right individual. I saw more people falling backwards becauseThey weren't using them right because they don't fit them. I am under the impression based on my time spent here and talking with other parents and people my age, that the owner well actively present is not an active owner. I am very disappointed with the music choices during all age skate (not everybody wants to hear "let's talk about sex baby" while holding the hand of their 10-year-old). Additionally, posting a sign that says you can't hold the establishment responsible for injuries that occur on the rink, is never going to hold up in court and it would be to the owners benefit to step back in his business and run it with respect for his employees, as well as his patrons. Frankly every time I speak with him I feel like he's just trying to get rid of me. A paying repeat customer who brings him and his family another new customer every time I bring a friend and their children. Lastly, the sound levels at tonight's 630 session was unecusable. My husband operates and maintains large machinery for the Navy. He has a hearing of a nine year old man. Both him and my two children left before the session ended because the music it was so loud it hurt. As mentioned before the DJ is not friendly, lied to my daughter instead of telling her he couldn't get the song and she's been waiting patiently for him to add it. Frankly I think he's lying to me, and I called him out on it and he basically told me I don't fit in with the crowd that he's playing to. For the reasons listed above I am giving this two stars because it is the only roller skating rink within a 50 mile range of my home. But don't forget skaters there's outdoor rinks and every parks and rec system and you won't spend eight bucks for the matinee session and then be forced to buy a $20 pizza that feeds three if you're lucky, and four dollar Icees - they cost $1.50 For some thing three times the size at the local 7-Eleven. Sneak that s**t in. Everything here is overpriced and I didn't mind it until tonight's experience because the good no longer outweighs the bad. read more

As for the birthday party, my understanding is to make reservations in advance, because Ventura only has 1 skating rink. You get a table on the outside of the private room and then the children are taken to the private room when its time to serve the cake and sing happy birthday. So the private room is really used only for less than half an hour. We had a great time, I plan to get my little one back on the skates, because she had a great time. Dont forget there are no refills on the soda. I wish the cashier would have mentioned, because I would have bought a larger size. So much fun! My cousins and I went on a Wednesday night and at 630pm-9pm it was only $8 which is a great price! We also stayed longer for adult night which was $12 from 9pm-11:30pm but we only paid $16 total for both sessions. The DJ was lit! He played a lot of throw backs and also mixed in some todays hits. You can request a song too! Everyone there is just having a good time. Also, they do serve beer, seltzer's and slurpees which is nice! The only thing I would recommend is to dress appropriately because I was sweating and I wish I wore a tank top or a shirt under my sweater. You get really hot from skating. Maybe skating plus can start making tshirts and sell them there. I would buy one. read more

Mostly very young kids(elementary school) and their parents. But we skated for about an hour to "go back to the 80s" for a minute and it brought back memories. Cute skating area.
