I came here for a party hosted by my work, and it was so much fun! The staff was really nice! This was my first time ice skating, and it seems like they get a lot of first timers. Wow. What a great place. I almost don't want to write this review and gatekeep this spot for fear that it'll be swamped by crowds, but honestly everyone should know about it! It's a great place to skate for all ages, from tiny tots (who they have small ice walkers for) to college students (who they have free ice skate rentals for on Tuesday's at 7) to adults (great date idea if at least one of you has firm footing on ice). We went on Tuesday as College Night attendees, and luckily for us, it was also Taco Tuesday!! Val, one of the guys working the Rinkside Cafe, makes birria tacos and they're absolutely delicious. Completely surpassed my expectations for an ice rink cafe taco for sure. Warm, cheesy, umami delight. A huge reward after falling on the freezing cold ice while sliding around on skates. The veggie taco is also pretty good; a nice complement to all the heavier dairy and meat. Definitely come check this place out, both for the recreation and for the food! read more

What a hidden gem. I didn't even know Santa Barbara had an ice rink. I've driven past a bunch of times but must have overlooked it since there's no signage from the street. I'm gonna learn to play hockey with their beginner clinics and classes so I'm super excited. We went to see the winter ice show. The show itself was great. All levels of performers and they started on schedule when with about 50 little kids in the show. I am disappointed about the seating arrangements. The tickets were $30 and there was a bar right in front of our view. they also sell so many tickets that we could barely fit on the bleachers without overlapping each others space. I think they need to reconsider selling less tickets on the benches and discounting the tickets that are in the front row of the balcony where the bar is in your view the whole time. read more

We just had a great experience celebrating a 15th birthday at Ice In Paradise. There were many different packages we could choose from for what our needs were and they were very flexible with customizing it. We had over 15 guests in the room and it fit us all just fine! All of our girls skated for over two hours, we had multiple pizzas included with our group package but we ended up having to purchase a couple extras, they were good about refilling all the drinks and we're very good checking in on us. You decided to bring our own cake but they do offer providing a cake. The private room where we were put in I think it was a locker room but they decorated it and it Didn't feel like a locker room but the girls skated the whole time so It didn't really matter. The other party room near the large rink is where we had a party previously and it's very nice. Breanne was who helped me schedule and plan everything for this event. So much fun! Took my daughter and her friend here today to ice skate and they had so much fun. They had open skating today from 1:30 to 4 so they had plenty of time to skate. There were plenty of people there but not too many so you could skate around with plenty of room. They also had walkers for the inexperienced skaters which I thought was great because falling on your butt on hard ice is not fun! They played great music and had fun lighting over the rink that lit up the ice. They have a large rink and a small rink. Today the large rink was open so it cost $15 to skate and $5 for ice skate rental. I thought this was incredibly affordable for 2.5 hours of skating. They don't allow you to bring in your own food but they have a cafe on site and the food was great. My husband and I both had the Italian subs and they were delicious. The bread was amazing. They also have nachos, big pretzels, hot dogs, sodas, bottled water, chips and lots more. read more

This facility, I'm told, opened in September of 2015, just four months ago. There are a lot of donor signs and placards all over. This is also the home ice of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. Parking is ample. Two rinks, one NHL and the other maybe 2/3rds as big for the mites following the ADM model of hockey. Four large, spacious locker rooms with adjoining bathrooms and showers. Upper level viewing of games. The upper level is warm enough, needing only a cover shirt or hoodie to stay comfortable. There is a concession stand, but it wasn't open (0700-0830) so I went down the street to get coffee after the long drive from Yorba Linda. There is no pro shop so make sure your skates are already sharpened and you have your spare laces, tape, and wax on hand. Getting a pro shop, having the concession stand open when the rink is open, and maybe putting in a vending machine or two for snacks and coffee would bump this rink up from a 4 to 5 star. I am, still, very impressed with it in comparison to other rinks I've been to. P.S. Some of the team stayed overnight at the Courtyard by Marriott since the game was at 0900. Nine cars were broken into, including two from our team. The hockey gear bags were rifled through and some items stolen. Make sure you secure your gear and things if traveling here for a game. read more

I left my skates there for sharpening, and they lost them. I asked several people there, and nobody knew what had happened. They did not give me any proof when I left my skates there but asked for proof when I wanted them back -- this is ridiculous! They refused to acknowledge that my skates were there, and they said that it was very "interesting that I said they were there." Felt very offended. Not willing to help and only "tried to help" when I said I would call the police to help me with this case. No compensation, no apologies, awful experiences. It was not my fault for trusting them, but I had to go to the rink several times to check the case status and get their rude questions. I am moving to another city, and they refused to ship my skates if they found them. So I had to change my flight to wait for them to find my skates, haha!! Definitely OVERRATED on yelp. read more

The facility is top notch with a full sized NHL sheet of ice, a smaller studio rink which is great for 3 on 3, nice seats and stands to watch practices or games, really large locker rooms, a study room for siblings and homework, and a cafe. I used to ice skate a lot when I was younger, and I've gone on and off since then, but I've always enjoyed ice skating. Firstly, I'm really happy that we have this place as an option to hang out at in Goleta. Secondly, it's a place that people of a variety of ages can come to and enjoy, which is why a large group of us grad students were out there! Specifically related to Ice in Paradise, it appears that they have multiple rinks, which is great. There's the main rink where I was, there's another one that appears to be reserved for private parties, and there may be another one on a second floor, but I didn't get a chance to check. The general skate rink is pretty large. However, I came at the end of the hour, so the ice was pretty cut up and it wasn't as smooth of a skate as I would have liked. The rink was pretty packed, but I've been to places that are far worse, and this was pretty spacious in comparison. I will most definitely be back! read more

First off, the facility is awesome. I've been excited for months for this to open. It's a very impressive size and great quality rink. There's also a Zizzo's inside, which is great. I would have given five stars immediately if I didn't actually try to skate on a Friday night. They were super busy and there were a lot of people on the ice. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no one working on the ice to manage the people who obviously don't know any ice skating etiquette. I.e. Skating in the wrong direction, stopping in large groups to take photos, holding hands in a line of 6+people while skating very slowly... It was frustrating and dangerous, and there was no one actually skating around mediating anything or helping people get up quickly like every skating rink I've ever been to. I was so disappointed that we left after less than 30 minutes and wish I could get my money back. I love ice skating and would eventually like to go back to try again, but NEVER on a weekend. read more

After decades without one Santa Barbara now has a brand new ice skating rink. Ice in Paradise has 2 ice rinks ready for kids and adults and opening weekend was this past weekend. It was a great way to keep cool in the heat and have a great time trying to skate on ice, which this Californian isn't use too. - A few spills were involved, but it was fun. When I first heard they were putting an ice rink here in Santa Barbara / Goleta, I thought it was crazy. But now that we have checked it out and use the facilities and taken the skate classes, I am a believer. The facility is very clean and well-kept. They offer lots of opportunity for public skating hockey and classes. Our kids have taken Skate School classes on Tuesday and on Saturday and all the teachers are excellent. There have been times where they seem understaffed, but they usually can find some teachers to jump in and make sure the kids have a quality experience. The on-site restaurant has recently changed and the new business is offering some great food including pizzas (and draft beers soon). I didn't even know this place existed except when we did a work event bonding thing, and we went to skate for 30 minutes. It's freezing inside! Go here to get a taste of what actual winter is like :P for us Southern Californians anyway. I think the cost is actually decent. You have to remember this place is starting up. They need to cover cost, and a date for two to skate for 3 hours for just $25 is not really that bad. They probably haven't worked out all the things they plan to offer yet. I encourage people to attend these kinds of places so we can KEEP them. We didn't buy enough books, now we lost half the bookstores in town, to be replaced by crappy makeup shops and cheap merchandise stores of which we have tons already. Don't let this establishment have to leave, and get replaced by some crappy health pill vegan store thing that no one frequents either. Anyway. The skates were comfy and they had my size. The guy at the counter was humorous, and I don't recall any music, which was fine. Either I wasn't paying attention or it was so low it didn't register. I haven't skated since I was 11. I fell, so oh well XD I'd go again.Definitely want to try doing this for Valentines Day. Great date idea! read more

Nice facility but I was shocked that the big sheet of ice wasn't being used at all and the public session was being held on tle rink the size of a backyard swimming pool. This wonderful building and I was so let down with the rink I skated in. I covered the length of the rink with 3 forward strokes and one crossover to turn the corner. I am absolutely in love with this place. The staff are friendly and helpful. The entire place is spotlessly clean. Lessons for adults are fantastic- the teachers are knowledgeable-and super supportive. The lessons always begin on time, and many times the teachers are there during the 30 minute practice time if you happen to have questions. The public skate times are supervised, and behavior expectations are enforced if needed. The ice is well maintained. There is even a cafe that has food and beer. It's one of my favorite places to spend my time. read more

If I could rate a 0 I would have.... Went here for a birthday party with 3 middle-aged teens, a 62-year-old grandma and two young adults for a birthday party. We had a little bit of difficulty with our grandma having stability issues so we kindly ask for an assistant tool so she would be able to skate easier. Paul, the manager here first asked us to point her out on the ice. She was on the opposite side of the rink holding onto the side. After pointing her out like he asked, he turned to us and said rudely, "if she can't skate then how did she get all the way over there?" I explained that we assisted her around the rink, but she fell a few times and needed a support tool. He said it was only for children, and although we understood that, we explained she is 62 years old and she wanted to enjoy skating with her grandkids...his replied was, "I wouldn't put my grandma on the ice if she can't skate." I was so shocked by how rude he was to us. So I asked for a refund for our tickets. First he said he couldn't do that and I told him we are not going to stay if she cannot skate. Then he said he would only refund her ticket. Of course this was not going to be acceptable since we had just gotten there, and spent maybe 10min on the ice. I continued to ask for a refund until finally he threw up how hands and said, fine get them all off the ice and I'll give you all your money back. First he refunded us who had receipts from paying with a credit card. Then he gave us a hard time about the three teens and our grandma who paid with cash because they didn't have a receipt. The receptionist who took the payments said they usually don't give receipts to those who pay in cash, so getting more frustrated he started looking it up in the computer. Then one by one he returned the cash, not realizing that we had four ppl who needed cash refunds, he seemed to be getting more and more irritated each time and asking for receipts even tho we had already explained that she did not give receipts for the payment made in cash. He literally threw the refund receipts back at my teenage siblings and my grandmother. I stood there and watched him do this. Deciding to not make matters worse and mention his extremely rude attitude and actions, I stayed silent because obviously he had no costumer service skills at all. The two employees working with him looked embarrassed and the young lady with blonde hair was apologetic. In the end he lost the ice rink $112.50 in sales, and completely ruined a nice family outing / 18th birthday celebration. I felt bad for my grandmother who still enjoys to be active and was having a great time even tho it was difficult for her. There was no one else out on the ice using any support tools, so this whole situation could have easily been avoided had they been nice enough to assist the elderly! In my opinion this was discrimination to old people. As a manager you should always be willing to be as helpful as you can. Even if we absolutely could not use the ice walker because of the rules, he could have handled that situation in a professional manner. No respect was given whatsoever. Even people standing around in the front area were kind of shocked that they wouldn't allow a grandma to use a walker. As we left he said "sorry it couldn't work out, have a good night!" This encounter was deeply disappointing and actually very hurtful, we will not ever be going back this poorly managed ice rink as long as he is the manager. To the reader, don't waste your time or money here, there are other ice rinks with good friendly staff that know how to treat customers with respect! read more

Pros, Cons, then summary. I play here as well as my kids. PROs--The place is new. Everything works and is updated. Locker rooms are roomy, nice, and have bathrooms attached. The NHL ice is very nice, boards are clean and glass too. Has a nice coffee shop, and snack bar. TVs are new and always has sports on them. Easy parking too. The youth and adult leagues run fine. The coaches are nice and knowledgeable for the kids and the referees for the adults are much better than other places. CONs--Having only 1 full sheet makes it tough to schedule practices/games. This is an issue that is only going to get worse as more people take up hockey. No video games either for the kids. Need more food in the snack bar and/or have all of the ingredients necessary. For example, nachos are easy to make and keep stock, yet there were out of cheese on more than 1 occasion. Would I go back? Yes. It's an overall nice place. For hockey players in the tri-county area, it's basically here, Simi Valley Iceoplex, or Valencia Ice Station. Valencia is very nice, but I don't know anybody over there, and the times I've played there, the level of douchebaggery was pretty high. read more

It's a decent skating rink, very clean and large in size. There was none of the overly gross dampness some ice rinks have. It did feel a bit crowded, but I went on a Sunday so maybe there were a lot more people than usual. I haven't given reviews before but I feel like a word of warning about their medical officer's expertise is appropriate. I'm not a first time skater nor am I skilled, but I fell once after someone crashed into me from behind. My elbow started to hurt after and I began to feel dizzy and nauseous. My friend told the employees and they got their medic to help me. He asked me questions about my symptoms, such as how I was feeling, where the pain was, etc. After asking me questions and feeling my arm, he concluded that there was nothing wrong. Upon learning that we were students at UCSB, he asked me if I was drunk. Which was likely based on UCSB's party school stereotype, but preposterous to me since I dislike alcohol and haven't had any for years. Eventually he suggested that it was a kind of "shock" and would wear off a couple hours later, so my friend and I left. Through the night and the next morning my elbow still hurt, so I went to the health services at UCSB and after listening to my symptoms they recommended I get an x-ray. The x-rays revealed I broke a bone in my elbow. I suppose the medic at the ice rink couldn't have known, but I'm a little salty over how he assumed I was drunk and/or hungover. So in conclusion the ice rink is nice but I would really suggest taking their medic's conclusions with a grain of salt. read more

Love how there's an ice skating rink in Santa Barbara don't get me wrong but they need better/or more suitable ice skating guards or even rules while on the ice. I'd go back but never again on a Saturday night or even at night during the weekend which is really sad to say. I went there on a Saturday night, which at first we were in the smaller rink because the larger rink was being used for a hockey match, and the girl who was the skating guard did pay attention, sometimes, but once everyone moved in to the larger rink and all the teenagers/ high school kids came the guard basically abandoned her duty on the ice. It was $10 event night for high school kids with a valid student ID every Saturday ( saw a poster up that night as I was leaving) it apparently would last until midnight. (they could of waited to have it after the regular public sessions which ended at 930pm or closed off the larger rink for the rest of the public for that event when it started) These high schoolers were making out on the rink, at the corners near the entrance/ exits of the rink and then a lot of them had food or drinks on their hands while skating, and some were being pretty aggressive.. We saw this guy trip a girl and she literally fell on her ass and you could tell she was upset, but you know where the "ice skating guard" was, talking to her friend, and just skating like she didn't even know it happened or was even working for that matter and it literally happened in the middle of the rink . People were falling and she didn't even go up to them and check if they were ok. ALSO, there were still little kids on the rink and some of these high schoolers were skating like they were either intoxicated or high. And they were wearing skimpy clothing not appropriate for the ice or even the cold temperature, like really?! They should of had more than 1 person overlooking the large rink (there was like 3 employees at the desk area) The only good thing was the smaller rink was still open so a lot of families, people who just wanted to enjoy their skating time or practice their figure skating decided to either go to the smaller rink or just leave. It wasn't fair for a $15 admission fee (with rental skates) and if your child needed help it's like an extra $5 for those little bucket or skate aids, to pay that amount and leave after only about an hour because of rowdy teens. (Night skating is opened from 730pm-930pm) They need to come up with better rules/ regulations or guidelines when they're doing events like these because thats a disaster waiting to happen where someone could get injured. read more

Went by last Tuesday to watch an adult hockey game. Worst refereeing I've ever seem. The refs allowed one team target players on the opposition and when they retaliated they were immediately penalized. One guy got him in the face three or four times by the same player on the other team and finally he retaliated and was ejected from the game. Seems very biased and political, not the way hockey should be played and could cost the rink a lot of players going forward. Suggest the league director watch a couple of his games and get his refs sorted out or someone is going to get hurt. read more

So this last visit, was my 2nd time ever ice skating. I have roller skated before so it was a little easier to pick up. Unfortunately, I ended up challenging myself too much and I ended up falling and spraining my right knee/ankle. The staff was very helpful and supportive, offering help off the rink as well as ice for my leg. Sean/Shawn was very helpful and even offered me a ride home after he finished his shift.
