Whoever planned this community park in the middle of all the museums in Museumplein, Amsterdam, was a genius in urban planning. You've got lots of people going to appreciate the museums everyday. You've got various food trucks and stands around with burgers, fries, stroopwafel, and ice cream. Then you've got a playground, skatepark, and a basketball court.
There's something for everyone. You want culture? Check. You want a yummy snack or beverage? Check. You wanna play energetically with friends and family? Check! You wanna sit on a bench and relax for a bit, while enjoying community? Check!
Our last afternoon in Amsterdam yesterday, we sat on a bench and watched kids and adults, ages 10 to 30s, enjoying themselves, skating, doing tricks, teaching and cheering on each other. They were all taking turns and mingling well.
Likewise on the basketball courts adjacent to the skatepark were primarily teenagers shooting baskets, dribbling, playing.
All around were adults and younger children sitting on benches, enjoying the good weather (sunny and cool).
The whole area felt very safe, communal, and supportive. read more
