Luckily my search on Expedia led me to the Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center in Olive Branch, MS. The mapping system in my car had trouble getting me to my destination. The address, 7300 Hacks Cross Road, takes you to a side street that leads to the hotel. Another way to search is Hacks Cross Road at Woods Blvd; turn onto Woods Blvd which becomes a divided boulevard that leads to the hotel. The entrance to the hotel is on the opposite side from the pool; not under the covered entrance. The staff was nice and welcoming. The hotel is a unique set-up with lot's of meeting and banquet halls and even a small bar/restaurant that serves you well for the free breakfast buffet, lunch or dinner, or for a late night nightcap. The rooms were clean, well maintained and smoke free. I will gladly stay here again if the opportunity arises. They have a laundry on the fourth floor, ice and vending near the elevators, and plenty of rooms for group gatherings, business meetings, or family reunions. When I walked around the corner from checking in I immediately felt like I went back in time to the 70's. I got excited when I got off the elevator to see a brand new looking gym and floors only to get into my room to see 1975. Now I will say my room was clean. It didn't smell. The bed was comfortable. I checked for bed bugs everything was clear. So that's a positive. Another positive was breakfast. Most hotels will serve a continental breakfast but this place served full on breakfast for free and it wasn't bad for what it was. Each day it was something different and the ladies were always nice when I came to eat. I think once they update the place it could be great.

The owner sent me pictures of someone's else trashing stating it was mine. They also sent me a bill that was inaccurate and got upset because I corrected their error. I was told verbally that deposits will be returned within 3 days and later it was emailed stating 7-10 days. When I inquired on day 10 why I hadn't received my deposit, I was given excuses about a family member dying and no one was available. I finally got $200 deposit back today and I inquired about my $50 that was obviously missing. I was told that I left the air on and trash outside. She also provided a picture of the trash. However, my event didn't serve red cups that were clearly seen in the picture. I support black businesses but this one is a SCAM. I would never rent from Skyy Room event hall again and I advise anyone else to be cautious.

The public spaces are always clean and the staff always super friendly. They have a bar/restaurant that serves your standard offerings which when in a hurry is super helpful. The rooms however have seen a steady aging that are in need of serious updating. Interiors doors don't close all the way. Toilets bolts are often loose causing a rocking motion if not careful. During a current stay, the pair of reading lights didn't work, and the light switch by the door had black tape over it. The rooms are the truest definition of basic. Not exactly sure what's going on here but the rooms need attention.

I was not happy with the rooms though and the person at the front desk. When I went to my room and opened the door it freaked of chemicals. I got a headache just standing in there. The front desk man did not apologize and did not say a word, he just took my key and gave me a new room. Very disappointed. The hotel had no WiFi that night as well.

The facilities are in excellent shape. There is a nice area for parents who want to watch with a fireplace and cafe with refreshments (not as expensive as a movie theater, but higher than fast food). It costs $15 + a charge for skates. While it may seem expensive, it is also very expensive to operate an ice rink particularly in the south. There is a pro-shop inside to purchase skates and hockey equipment. They can sharpen ice skates and provide other services. The place is kept clean and tidy. It is important to check the calendar because public skating may be limited due to hockey games and tournaments. The University of Mississippi hockey team plays here, and you can attend/watch hockey games here. There is a roller skating rink down the street, should you want to skate and ice skating is cancelled due to hockey, but the Ice House is much nicer than the Roller rink.
